The Blessed Virgin Mary may be taken as a patroness of any good activity, for she is often cited as the patroness of all humanity. This month we also saw five of our young people confirmed into the Catholic Church receiving the Holy Spirit, strengthening their faith and commitment to their faith. We ask you to join with us in congratulating these students and ask you to keep them in your prayers. We continue to keep in our prayers our young people undergoing public examinations. Prayer

May is a month that is devoted to Mary, the Mother of God. During this month, we take time each day to think particularly about the important role that Mary plays in the Gospels, and in fact, in our lives. She is the perfect model of how to treat others, and how to share God’s love to others. Mary is the mother to us all; this means that we can all be disciples of Jesus. Mary is very close to Jesus in heaven. We ask her to pray for us, which she does gladly. “Mary’s greatness consists in the fact that she wants to magnify God, not herself” – Pope Benedict XVI

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Have your Say Competition

Twelve De La Salle students competed in the Regional Final of the ‘Have Your Say’ Competition at Thomas Lord Audley School in Colchester. The students were a credit to the school executing their dialogues with great skill and determination. Every student performed to the best of their ability having spent many hours practising their performance not only for the final but also for the preliminary round.

I would like to congratulate and thank all students who represented the school. Mrs Delarue-Ward – Teacher of MFL

The English and Drama departments proudly present the all new Script-writing Club. This club will take place every Thursday lunch time until the summer show.

The club will provide a unique opportunity for KS3 students to showcase their writing talents in a series of fun weekly group tasks. There will also be a competition and the winning script will win a prime slot in the summer show to showcase their work, with all actors (Year 10 Students) being provided. The winner

NEW DLS BOOK CLUB

On Wednesday the 25th of April some DLS students witnessed the launching of the new DLS book club. This club is open to everyone and was launched by Doctor Iguisi in MFL4. This club encourages students to read and learn to enjoy reading. The people who attended also learned many benefits of reading, like increasing your concentration and making you have a wider variety of vocabulary.

We would like many of our students to be avid readers and would love it if we all increased our habit of reading books. At the launching Doctor Iguisi gave us a summary of what takes place at the club:

According to Dr Iguisi, “It will take place once a month and you will discuss the books that you truly enjoy, we are certain there is something for everyone. Reading is also an exercise for the brain and is much better than watching TV, we like to think of reading not as a chore but something to enjoy. The best way to read is to have no distractions around you and you find yourself lost in another world, it also reduces stress, I personally love reading and we want to get many others doing it too.”

We also watched a short video clip which revealed a lot of information about the advantages of reading. People spend an average of 444 minutes every day looking at screens, or 7.4 hours. This is 147 minutes spent watching TV, 103 minutes in front of a computer, 151 minutes on phones and 43 minutes with a tablet. This is too much time to be spending in front of screens.

If you have any ideas or questions about the club, please see Doctor Iguisi in her room. SO, LET'S GET READING! Rebecca Boyejo - Year 7

The following students attended extra curricular clubs - we awarded bronze for attending 20 sessions and awarded silver for attending 45 sessions. Well done!

Mr Brinklow - Teacher of PE Our basketball teams have had the opportunity to be involved in a project called ‘Jump Higher’. This a project set up by Essex University. Students are being coached every week by a club coach and they will also be attending the University to watch a University match, visit the University campus and attend a seminar. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience Uni life at a top PE campus. Miss Rothwell - Curriculum Leader - PE

Peer support is when other members of the school community help those who are having problems. If you have a problem and want to talk to someone about it then Peer Support is

there for you.

Peer Support Runs in Lab 4 every lunchtime. A member of Upper School will be available for you to talk to if you have a problem. They may need to discuss what you have told them

with an adult so that you can get the right support to help you.
