our latest addition: the SIPS™ 500 series
We’ve recently launched our SIPS™ 500 series for the automaticpersonalisation of passports and ePassports. With unique technology,SIPS™ 500 series provides the most secure document personalisationsolution available, ensuring complete accountability of all components.
SIPS™ 500 series can produce high quality standard 32 page documents or 64 pageePassports, personalising and quality assuring up to 60 passports per hour.
In a single, automated process the chip is unlocked, personalised and then lockedagain so that personal information can be cross-referenced to a central controldatabase. In addition the system can cross-reference information stored onprinted passports, consumables and personal data held on the microchip. There is strict audit control from passport manufacture to final issuance, ensuring the supply chain is fully secure. SIPS™ 500 series meets allthe requirements of ICAO specification 9303 and can be integratedwith governments’ own systems.
In addition, the modular construction of SIPS™ 500 series maximisesease of operation and maintenance, as well as providing flexibility tomeet government-specific requirements and future standards. De La Rueoffers full service and support for SIPS™ 500 series.

delivery through innovation
De La Rue focuses on delivering innovations to our customers whichadd value to their business. We have always pushed the boundariesof innovation in authentication, continually pioneering newtechnologies, features and products across the group.
■ In 2007 De La Rue won its eleventh Queen’s Award for StarChrome®, a wide, windowed security thread that exhibits a distinctive colour changing effect. StarChrome® is now used in more than two billion banknotes around the world.
■ Our ePIC solution provides an automated passport inlay checking system which can test sheet ePassports installed with smart chips and antenna at a throughput of up to 1,200 per hour.
In the Identity Systems business we are staying ahead with a numberof recent innovations.
■ A new CheckDigit solution, developed to ensure correct automated reading of a passport's number and make fraud and counterfeiting more difficult. The number automatically read by passport personalisation equipment cannot use a conventional check digit. It would confuse immigration officers who would mistakenly assume it is part of the passport number. We have developed a symbol (see the image right) that looks distinctly different to the conventional number but provides the same functionality. The use of the symbol allows detection of errors in machine reading and increases passport security against fraud and counterfeiting.
