De Boer has had a passion for the “fifth façade” of buildings for generations already. We believe that the roof of a building deserves at least as much attention as the four walls do. Roofs can be an interesting architectural feature, but they also matter economically and environmentally. A roof that lasts long, as ours do, will help you save a lot of money and will preserve the value of your property.

With De Boer, you can rest assured that your roof is in good hands. This Belgian company enjoys a worldwide reputation in the field of bituminous roofing membranes for flat and low-pitch roofs.

De Boer’s expert technicians will take up any challenge. Our passion to always do better has resulted in a wide range of high-performance products which have demonstrated their durability.

At De Boer, waterproof and futureproof go hand in hand.

BITUMEN, AN ESTABLISHED PRODUCT WITH A BRIGHT FUTURESince the company was founded in 1922, De Boer has been working with bitumen. This petroleum derivative is still the basis for 75% of all flat roof coverings. Throughout the years, products have become better, lighter and more environmen-tally-friendly. New developments, in particular in the field of polymers, have resulted in products with a proven lifespan of 35 years at least. De Boer manages all stages of the manufactur-ing process, from the selection of raw materials and the unique composition of the compounds to the quality control in our own laboratory and the timely delivery on site. Strict controls in every stage of the process result in a sustained high quality.

RESISTS EXTREME CONDITIONS

Bitumen has many benefits, including its high adhesive power and elasticity, its chemical resistance to external influences and its thermal stability under extreme weather conditions (ranging from -40°c to + 150°c). Bitumen-covered roofs withstand rain and hail and, unlike roofs covered with certain synthetic mate-rials, they are accessible even when it rains or when it freezes, which is a major advantage.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Bitumen is also an ecological product in many ways. It is man-ufactured in an environmentally-friendly manner; bituminous roofs are perfectly suited for the recuperation of rainwater; and, when covered with a white reflective top layer, they decrease heating in built-up areas. On top of all this, the products can easily be recycled.

CRADLE TO CRADLE

De Boer recycles as much as possible. Manufacturing rejects are collected and shredded; impurities are filtered out; the filtered mass is then heated and additives are added until the desired composition is reached. This compound is then used as the basis for specific bituminous bottom layers. This makes the cycle complete.

ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES

From an architectural point of view, the sky is the limit for bituminous roofs. Every possible creative shape, colour and application is possible, from paraboloid roofs and green roofs to parking house roofs, tunnels, terraces and balconies.

Low maintenance, environmentally-friendly, easily recyclable, can be perfectly used for rainwater recovery and is even available in air-purifying versions.

Proven life expectancy of 35 years + benefit of multi-layer applications

Ideal for renovations: higher ROI than

synthetic foils.

Because of the rolled-in granulate, bituminous

roofs can be walked upon perfectly, in any kind of

weather conditions. Roofs covered with synthetic material, however, are slippery and cannot be

walked upon frequently.

Excellent “wind-uplift strength”, for various

applications (flame-tor-ched, mechanically

fastened, glued).

The homogenous SBS composition on both sides ensures the best seam connection, with a peel strength of 200N/50 mm which is better than any “single-ply” application.

DuO: A MILESTONE IN THE HISTORY OF FLAT ROOFSIn 1989, De Boer wrote history when it launched DuO, a revolu-tionary product which had taken years of research and devel-opment. The big challenge was to combine high elasticity and adhesive strength with high mechanical resistance, strength and stability. De Boer succeeded in uniting two apparent opposites in a harmonious marriage. DuO is a flexible dou-ble-reinforced waterproofing membrane with a double polymer bitumen coating. The membrane can be either 4 or 5 mm thick. The top is finished with mechanically rolled-in artificial slate; the bottom is covered with a specific film.

DuO roofs are waterproof and UV-proof and can easily be walked upon. This makes DuO roofs suitable for many applica-tions and for many climate zones.

DuO 2.0

DuO was an immediate success when it was launched and it has continued to grow ever since. It has been installed on architec-tural gems and functional buildings in more than 35 countries. Throughout the years, DuO has evolved into a range of prod-ucts for different applications, from fire-resistant roofs, over membranes for roof gardens to waterproofing membranes for bridges and tunnels and waterproofing membranes for roof renovation.

And De Boer goes further still: iDuO welds seams using induc-tion. This is a safe solution when flame-torching should not be used. iDuO requires neither heat nor adhesives, yet ensures perfect watertightness.

Comes with a root resistant compound. Specifically designed for green (garden) roofs.

DuO Aero owes its name to its vapour-spreading characteristic. This roofing membrane has fast-flowing strips of bitumen at the bottom which ensure partial adherence to the roof surface. Ideal for roof renovations.

Modified bitumen is applied to a specifically designed composite support. Ideally suited for roof covering systems which are mechanically placed.

Extra strong composite arming with a special TPO coating and an SBS mass with strong adhesive strength. Designed for the waterproofing of civil engineering works.

Membrane with SBS modified bitumen at the bottom. Extremely well suited for flameless installation using glue or bituminous adhesive.

With a fire-resistant TPO compound on top and a fire-resistant SBS coating at the bottom. Used on roofs which require a flying spark resistant system.

Application : when the covering must resist burning embers, for buildings with an increased level of fire protection

Application : no-flame installation is required, (in places where a vapour pressure distribution layer is required through permanent openness to vapour)

Application : Roof gardens, flower tubs, Underground applications with a risk of roots penetrating

Application : Single-layer mechanically fastened membranes, Used where the surface cannot use a flame-torched installation method

Application : Renovation of buildings while conserving the existing roof covering Application : Bridges and constructions which need to meet specific requirements

THE RIGHT PRODUCT FOR EVERY APPLICATIONDe Boer offers the high-tech DuO range, as well as four standard product groups. Each system is composed of an undercoating, a support and a top coating. If you want to see which De Boer system best meets your requirement, you can use our online system configurator which guides you to the best solution step by step. On the basis of a set of parameters (climate zone, type of roofing underlayment, insulation, with or without ballast), you will quickly find the right system. And, of course, our staff will be glad to help you.

UNIQUE PRODUCTS FOR SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

De Boer goes where most other producers stop. As a niche player, we manufacture high-end products which make the difference. DuO CRW (Cool Roof White) is such a product. It is a bituminous roofing membrane with a white, light-reflecting finish which reflects the sunlight and, thus, lowers the temperature in the building. If you want to go further still environmentally speaking, we can even supply you with an air-purifying roofing membrane. Very popular in the international market is our Debobase Special, a product which is used to make basements, underground garages and tunnels waterproof. Customised widths, thicknesses, lengths or colours ... De Boer can make it for you. We currently offer more than 600 different roofing membranes.

SAS (SELF ADHESIVE SYSTEM)

This product group responds to the demand for a self-adhesive vapour screen with a (polyester, aluminium, aluminium grid,...) reinforced self-adhesive underlayer. SAS has amazing adhesive strength, allowing the professional user to make a perfectly waterproof vapour screen or underlayer, without the need to burn. The result is a safe, flameless installation.

APP (ATACTIC POLYPROPYLENE)APAO, APP, TPO (polymer) based modified bitumen which is applied on both sides of a support (glass fibre, fabric, polyester fleece or a composite). The main advantages of this membrane are its high plasticity, its excellent UV- and thermal stability, and the fact that it can be walk upon well.

SBS (STYRENE BUTADIENE STYRENE)This modified bitumen is applied on both sides of a sup-port (glass fibre, fabric, polyester fleece or a composite). This membrane offers superior elasticity and is an ideal solution for roofs with high mechanical load or when temperatures fluctuate a lot.

PB (POLYMEER BITUMEN)Polymer bitumen membrane, available in a wide range of BENOR-certified products. Can only be used as an underlayer by professional roofers.

BYP (BIJPRODUKTEN)De Boer is your ‘one-stop-shopping point’ for all roofing accessories and roofers tools. A wide selection of quality products for the professional, with proven reliability and a very good price-quality ratio. We have most products in stock, so you won’t need to wait for them.

WHY CHOOSE DE BOERPROVEN DURABILITY We promise you that our roofs will last for decades. We can stand by this promise, because independent experts (WTCB-CSTB - Scientific and Technical Centre for the Construction Sector - together with SGS and specialised laboratories) have tested De Boer roofs on their durability. The first DuO life expectancy report was published in 2000, ten years after the first DuO roofs had been installed. The second report followed in 2005 and again showed positive results. The third report on the durability of DuO was published in 2010. It concluded that, when properly maintained, De Boer DuO roofs have a life expectancy of 35 years, at least. All three reports show, by the way, that DuO has the same very long lifespan in all parts of the world and in all climate zones.

10-YEAR PRODUCT GUARANTEE

De Boer gives a 10-year product guarantee on all waterproofing membranes. De Boer has underwritten an insurance policy with Amlin Corporate Insurance which covers manufacturing risks with an impact on the roof’s watertightness during 10 years. In case a roofing membrane shows defects which cause leaks in the roof, the policy covers the reimbursement of all costs related to the installation and removal of the product and to the installation of the new product. In short, the cost of all materials, wages and rental of equipment which are needed to restore the damaged roof to its original state. De Boer bears the cost of this policy.

10 YEARS’ APPLICATION GUARANTEE

Even leaks which result from wrongful installation by a roofer can be insured under a separate policy. This policy covers all expenses which are required to return the roof to its initial condition, including the cost of replacing the badly installed product and the cost of renting and installing the scaffolding. The cost of this policy is recharged in consultation with the roofer / the owner.

Every five years, De Boer commissions independent experts to examine the life expectancy of De Boer’s roofing membranes.

Under the coordination of SGS and BBRI Belgian Building Research Institute (WTCB-CSTC), we take samples from six roofs across the world.

MISSION

Independent European laboratories analyse the DuO roofing membrane samples in accordance with the most recent official methods.

ANALYSIS

A report with the independent results and the conclusion is drawn up. De Boer distributes this report among its customers.
