DDSDDS DIRECTIONAL DRILLING SERVICEMWD MEASUREMENT WHILE DRILLING
The Geolink range of Measurement While Drilling (MWD) equipment is renowned for providingsimple, high reliable and functional solutions for all types of directional surveying and steeringoperations. The measurements are made downhole, stored in solid-state memory and transmitted
to the surface later. The data transmission usually involve digitally encoding data andtransmitting to the surface as pressure pulses in the mud system. These pressures may be positive, negative or continuous sine waves. DDS disposes of a negativepulse system. The measurements are stored for later retrieval with wireline or when the tool istripped out of the hole if the data transmission link fails.
11
LWD LOGGING WHILE DRILLING
MWD tools that measure formation parameters are referred as Logging-while-drillingtools (LWD). LWD-tools use similar data storage and transmission systems, with some havingmore solid-state memory to provide higher resolution logs after the tool is tripped out than ispossible with the relatively low bandwidth, mud-pulse data transmission system. The LWD hasthe advantage of measuring properties of a formation before drilling fluids invade deeply.Further, many wellbores prove to be difficult or even impossible to measure with conventionalwireline tools, especially highly deviated wells. In these situations, the LWD measurementensures that some measurement of the subsurface is captured in the case, that wireline
operations are not possible.
Resistivity A log of the resistivity of the formation, expressed in ohm-m. The resistivity log is fundamentalin formation evaluation because hydrocarbons do not conduct electricity while all formationwaters do. Therefore a large difference exists between the resistivity of rocks filled withhydrocarbons and those filled with formation water.
Gamma ray
A common and inexpensive measurement of the natural emission of gamma rays by aformation. Gamma ray logs logs are particularly helpful because shales and sandstonestypically have different gamma ray signatures that can be correlated readily between wells.

DDSDDS DIRECTIONAL DRILLING SERVICEELECTROMAGNETIC-MWD
ARC-GYDE is a family of wireless Directional Steering Systems. The connection between the Down-Hole sonde and the Surface Subsystem is by Electro-Magnetic (E-M) waves. This feature allows a Steering Tool to operate without a Wireline.
It is comprised of the following: A Down-Hole Subsystem consisting of the Instrumentation
Sonde, Drill-String Antenna, and a Non-Magnetic Drill Collar.
A Surface Subsystem consisting of the Receiver-Processor,
Notebook PC, and Safety Barrier Box. A two way wireless electromagnetic data transmission system, installed in a non-magneticdrill collar connected between a motor or bit and the drill string, is conducting informationupwardly from a location deep within the well by a transmitter and induces electrical currents
in the surrounding earth formation. These currents are sensed at surface by surfaceequipment connected to two electrodes.
One is connected to the drilling rig where the drill string acts as an electrical lossy. Thesecond one is connected to the ground or water (through which the current extends) wherethe earth is forming the electrical return path. The electrical signal in the earth is generated by an instrument having a magnetometer –and inclinometer package for indicating the directional orientation of a drill string in the well.
The received signal is filtered, demodulated, processed and displayed at surface, inclinationand azimuth are combined with the created hole length to calculate X, Y, and Z holecoordinates and TruTrack ® adaptable to provide enhanced accuracy.

DDSDDS DIRECTIONAL DRILLING SERVICERVDS Rotary Vertical Drilling System
19
The Rotary Vertical Drilling System RVDS is an automatic steering system for drilling vertical holes based onmeasured values of the two-axis inclination sensors the deviation from the vertical course is determined.Exceeding permissible variation activities the hydraulic steering system. Extendable stabilizer ribs generate radial
forces and work against the angle build up. Simultaneously the inclination data are transmitted by mud pulsing tothe surface. The tool is designed especially for mining applications, but it can be also used for conventional drilling.
The development of the RVDS is based on a successful series of vertical drilling systems with various applicationsin deep drilling wells. The RVDS is supplied with an identical steering principle. However, all other vertical drillingsystems are motor based systems, while the RVDS is rotary driven from the rig floor.

DDSDDS DIRECTIONAL DRILLING SERVICEBICO FLEX DRILL MOTORS
The Flex Drill down hole motor is a highly rugged and efficient positive displacement motor. The motor converts the drilling fluid’s hydraulic energy into mechanical energy in the form of torque androtational speed.
This conversion is accomplished through the use of a spiral rotor that fits into a stator of similar shape, to forma tight seal.
Flex Drill Motors are available in configurations ranging from low-speed/high-torque models to our high-speedperformance motors.Tool sizes range from 1-11/16” to 11-1/4” allowing BICO Flex Drill motors to be used for everything from coiledtubing to deepwater applications.
All of these tools incorporate features that reduce maintenance costs, lower inventory requirements and ensurereliable performance.
ABOUT FLEX DRILL MOTORS
• Increased rate of penetration (ROP) due to increased bit rotational speed.
• Ability to drill in situations where it is not possible to rotate the drill string (e.g. coiled tubing, shortradius wells).
• Directional drilling performance improvements (e.g. the ability to maintain the desired well path byalternating between drill string rotation and drill string sliding).
• Reduced wear on drill collars, pipe and casing due to reduced drill string rotation.

DDSDDS DIRECTIONAL DRILLING SERVICEDRILLING JAR
26
The hydraulic/mechanical drilling jar is run in the bottom hole assembly in order to free the drill string if itshould become stuck. It reduces downtime and is suited for hot-hole applications and extended-reach drilling. The drilling jar
allows drillers to build strain energy in the drill string, which, when released, results in high-impact forces, either upwards or downwards. These "jarring" or impact forces can be more than six times higher than theforce applied to the drill string.
Hydraulic/mechanicalThe hydraulic/mechanical jar consists of a mechanical latch that keeps the jar in the neutral position andprevents unexpected jarring when tripping in or out of the hole. The jar also consists of a hydraulic sectionthat creates a time delay when the jar is in operation and the latch is disengaged.
Double actingThis jar combines the latch with hydraulic delay in both directions.
Drilling Jars and Shock Tools are available in several sizes.Specifications overview on the following pages.
Shock Tools work to increase drill string life by reducing the shock and vibration that causes failures.
Drilling dynamics create heavy vibrations that often contribute to drill string failure. Shock Tools dampenthis effect and extend drill string life as well as spare the bit from repeated impact. Benefits are increasedbit life (by reducing bit bounce) and increased penetration rates by keeping consistent bit to formationcontact.Shock Tools are sprung both ways (tension & compression) to accommodate loading from both directionsand are pressure balanced from extreme hydrostatic pressures, maximizing the performance of the shocktools.
