Alila Hotels & Resorts plans to launch 2 new Indonesian proper es. The group, which currently operates 4 hotels in Bali and 9 proper es globally, will add Alila Villas Bintan and Alila Seminyak to its por olio in 2014. Situated close to Singapore, on Bintan Island’s Lagoi Bay, Alila Villas Bintan will be a gated community made up of 12 three-bedroom beachfront residences and a luxury bou que resort with 52 one- and two-bedroom villas. The resort will feature ‘The

Village’, a group of facili es that will include Spa Alila, dining and drink venues and a cooking school, as well as a museum, gallery and bou ques. The villas will become the third property under the Alila Villas brand. Meanwhile, Alila Seminyak will be the group’s fi h managed property in Bali. The property will enjoy a beachfront loca on and feature 72 suites, 69 residences, a large events space, Spa Alila and restaurants.

ALILA TO ADD TWO INDONESIAN RESORTS

BEST WESTERN TO ADD NEW HOTEL IN VIETNAM

Best Western has added a new Vietnam hotel to its por olio. The group will take over the management of the 200-room Oceanami Resort & Luxury Home, located in the southeast of Vietnam at Vung Tau, during Q3 of 2013. Hotel facili es will include a restaurant, sports centre, tennis court, entertainment centre, swimming pool, and healthcare services. The hotel is an up-and-coming loca on on the South China Sea coast near the capital Ho Chi Minh City. Best Western is keen to take advantage of Vietnam’s current tourist boom, which has resulted in numerous hotels and a rac ons opening across the country.

LOMBOK TO BECOME SITE OF MAJOR INTEGRATED RESORT

Bali Tourism Development Corp (BTDC) will launch The Mandalika Resorts Lombok as a large integrated resort development in 2015. The 1,175-hectare property, located on the island of Lombok just 15 minutes away from its new interna onal airport, will be part of a special economic programme to develop Indonesia’s West Nusa Tenggara province as a major tourist a rac on. The state-owned BTDC, which currently manages neighbouring Bali’s Nusa Dua area, says the new resort will

avoid compe ng directly with Bali by off ering a diff erent group of a rac ons, including an F1 racetrack, a theme park with a planned Disney role, an underwater marine museum, an eco-park, mee ng spaces, and a concert hall. The site is planned as a key event-based des na on. Major Indonesian companies are onboard for various developments. The project’s fi rst phase, which includes hotels and an 18-hole golf course, will be completed in 3-5 years. Addi onal hotels and a rac ons will follow.

ASIAN PROPERTY TO FOCUS ON CITY TOWNHOUSESAsian Property Development (AP) is gearing up to launch 19 new projects in Bangkok, Thailand, with a total value of 22.5 billion baht. The projects will include 11 townhouses, 2 single homes, and 6 condominiums. The focus will be on townhouses in inner Bangkok, as many homebuyers remain concerned about future fl ooding in the capital’s suburbs but are unable to aff ord single homes closer to the city centre. AP an cipates 20 billion baht

in sales this year and 17 billion baht in revenue, up 18% and 25% respec vely from 2011. The group also plans to buy new land plots worth 3 billion baht for future development. It has just launched a fair at Bangkok’s CentralPlaza Lard Prao, off ering 296 fi nished townhouses at 7 projects in the area, worth 1.27 billion baht. contact Sa ta at

Thailand’s Hemaraj Land and Development Plc will go ahead with its plans to construct dykes around industrial estates, despite environmental concerns, poten al resistance by aff ected villagers, and its own admission that the dykes would only serve as a short-term solu on. The plans come on the heels of last year’s devasta ng fl oods, which saw many industrial estates in central Thailand, par cularly those in Ayuthaya, badly

inundated. The group believes that the dykes would protect the estates from future fl ooding and boost confi dence among investors in the area. Hemaraj also views industrial estate area diversifi ca on and water diversion schemes as longer-term solu ons to the fl ooding issue. Industrial estates make up 40% of the group’s revenue, and that fi gure is likely to grow to 50% this year.Hemaraj has also observed

a trend of labour-intensive industries moving to the Northeast, and as a result, the group may add another loca on there, as well as one on the Eastern Seaboard. It is also considering expanding abroad into Indonesia due to the na on’s growing automo ve market. The majority of the group’s clients are from the automo ve and building materials sectors in Japan.

HEMARAJ TO BUILD DYKES AROUND THAILAND’S INDUSTRIAL ESTATES

S GROUP TO CONTINUE EXPANSION OF BOUTIQUE HOTELS Thailand’s S Group, a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World brand, will con nue its focus on bou que facili es as it looks for another loca on along Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Road. The group currently operates the S15 Sukhumvit, S31 Sukhumvit, and S33 Sukhumvit hotels, and the area remains the most popular loca on for future hotel development. The

group believes that despite tougher prospects for its market segment in the near future, it will remain compe ve by off ering customers the right product, pricing, and loca on. Its 3 current proper es earn 40-60% in gross profi t. The company is focusing on improving its Internet marke ng, which currently brings in only 10% of its sales.

HILTON WORLDWIDE AND MAGNOLIA FINEST TO LAUNCH SOUTHEAST ASIA’S FIRST WAL-DORF ASTORIAHilton Worldwide has just signed a new management agreement with Magnolia Finest Corpora on Limited to open the fi rst Waldorf Astoria hotel in Southeast Asia. The 170-

room Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, located in Thailand’s capital, is scheduled to welcome its fi rst guests in 2015. The luxurious hotel will become Hilton’s ninth property in Thailand.
