Mechanical Solutions

Conveyor SystemsThe importance of conveyor maintenance and

quick repair can mean the difference of costly

downtime via effective planned maintenance

schedules and shutdowns. DB can assist in

providing experienced resources for scheduled

& non-scheduled maintenance & breakdown to

reduce downtime and continued productivity.

Experienced tradesmen and supervisors have the

knowledge in the following systems that make the

difference;

• Trough

• Chain

• Bucket

• Screw

• Overland

• Roller inspection & replacement

• Drive end & Tail end maintenance & replacement

• Bearing replacement

• Belt tracking

• Belt Take - Up maintenance

• On site repairs & fabrication to conveyor

beds & steelwork

• Hopper wear plate replacement

Management & supervision experience includes

BHPB Olympic Dam, Xstrata Copper-Lomas Bayas

(Chile), Newcrest Cadia East, BHPB TEMCO.

Processing/Floatation SystemsDB has worked in conjunction with other

major service providers such as BLH Group, in

providing knowledge with processing equipment

maintenance & repair for heavy industry. This has

resulted in ensuring on time-on budget shutdowns

and projects with outstanding safety standards.

examples include;

• Valve replacement

• Pump maintenance & change out

• Pipe spool replacement

• Tank Agitator replacement

• Thickener tank rake arm repairs

• Agitator drive & gearbox replacement

• Minor onsite tank repairs

• Onsite structural welding/repairs

CrushersCrusher shutdown support, supplying supervised

and experienced shutdown teams, to provide

knowledge in maintenance and repair of crushing

plant is vital. Identifying failed wear parts and

operative equipment can reduce inefficiency

and costly outcomes by engaging dedicated

maintenance & shutdown personnel to combat

downtime with crushing plants

• Cone crushers

• Jaw crushers

• Grizzly

• Wear plate/part replacement

• Hydraulic ram replacements

• Apron feeder and discharge chute repairs

• Crusher house repairs

• Onsite fabrication & steelwork

• Maintenance schedule inspections/repairs

• Shutdown repairs

As with all crushers, the maintenance of a crusher

depends on how it is applied and taking a proactive

approach to maintenance items like wear parts.

Replacing wear parts before they are worn out

costs less and improves the crusher’s performance,

ultimately saving money, increasing uptime, and

providing crusher longevity.

MillsDB provides the necessary experience to ensure

Mill shutdown execution is carried out safely, timely

and effectively. Tasks grouped according to their

importance (low, medium, critical) to the continued

mill operation and used to prioritise objectives with

budgetary and time constraints. Mill shutdowns are

too often extended through one task taking more

time and resources than expected, but if properly

understood tasks can be prioritised and critical

tasks assigned more resources.

• Slurry pipe inspections

• Pipe spool replacement

• Mantle and Throat liner changes

• Pipe & bearing hotspot inspection

& maintenance

• Feed & discharge seal replacement

• Gearbox & Head pulley inspections

• Cyclone feed pump inspection/repair

• Shutdown maintenance repairs

Access Solutions

Mast ClimbersApplying HEK’s latest mast climbing technologies,

DB Yurra utilises the MS Compact work

platform to access even the most challenging

variety of uses at every construction site, in

industry, power plants, process plants, mining

operations and special events, the MS Compact

work platform is capable of delivering heavy

machinery, tools and personnel with precision

architectural layouts.

Overcoming access limitations previously

experienced by the standard range of mast

climbing work platforms, the MS Compact work

platform allows DB to provide extensive logistical

advantages by delivering a full day’s production

With carrying capacity of 4000kg, up to a height of

200m, the MSM Super work platforms are capable

of being adjusted in both length and height to cater

for low-rise and high-rise projects and are able

to deliver and position all types of loads within a

centimetre of the location required.

Originally intended to provide access to power

plant boilers during maintenance shutdowns

where entry point sizes are limited, the innovative

design of the MS Compact work platform allows

the passing of spaces just 84cm or 34 inches wide.

With demonstrated capabilities now extending

beyond power plants, the innovative MS Compact

work platform is widely used to overcome

during installation, and pulp mills where access is

challenging and highly congested.

The MS Compact work platform provides

ergonomic working conditions for employees,

heavy tools and machinery are always within easy

reach. Additionally, the use of steel pins instead of

nuts and bolts substantially decreases assembly

and dismantling times compared to traditional

access increases productivity on-site and provides

With a focus on safety, DB operate mast

climbing technologies according to the strictest

requirements in terms of safety and quality and

only work with high grade, galvanised structural

materials, which comply with

the latest standards.

Training opportunities are provided to ensure

personnel remain up-to-date on the latest

advances within the mast climbing industry. With

over 40 years’ experience in the development and

manufacture of mast climbing work platforms,

transport platform and material hoists, HEK

provides a range of technical and commercial

courses covering application possibilities, logistics,

operation of machinery, all of which are available

through DB.

HIDDEN VALLEY PNG - Morobe Province

In 2011 OSM with the support of DB was contracted by mine operators at

Hidden Valley to recover a 1.5kms of conveyor belt that had failed and fallen

down a mountain. Site teams developed an innovative solution to recovering

the conveyor belt based on advanced mine recovery techniques. The original

estimate for project completion was eight months, but the site team was

able to complete recovery, repair and recommissioning completed within six

months.

The Hidden Valley crusher station returned to full production efficiency two

months earlier than the original project estimate, creating significant savings

for the joint-venture operator.

LIHER ISLAND – Newcrest

During 2012 Newcrest mine contacted OSM group to identify and help

implement new systems to increase gold production. OSM Group with the

support of DB secured a contract with the MOPU (million ounce plant upgrade)

project in addition to constructing new leaching tanks for the NCA -1 project.

DB supplied experienced employees from QLD while also utilising a large

number of local nationals to create a project team with the abilities to

complete the project. During the time at Liher Island the group also created

a welding school to train our national employees to complete welding

operations to Australian standards.

GLNG JETTY CURTIS ISLAND – John Holland Group/ Bechtel

In 2013 John Holland Group engaged DB to supply support services across

multiple scopes of works to be completed on the GLNG Jetty project. Minimal

access to works and multiple work-fronts spread across land and water

was identified as a key issue which utilising DB’s multidiscipline workforce

complimented John Hollands management and program requirements the

project team were able to completing on time the following key milestones:

• Roadway concrete precast install

• Module install and handover to Bechtel SMP teams

• 4 loading Arms installed in 1 shift

• Dolphin and Jetty link

• Cable tray and power install

DBs SMP team were complemented with excellence in Safety and Commitment

to the John Holland GLNG Jetty project with over 20,000hrs LTI free by the

Safety, Project & Construction Managers.
