Best
practice
DB Cargo Scandinavia facilitates modern
waste transports from Italy to Denmark
Best
practice
▪ Scandinavia is known for being leading in creating sustainable solutions.
▪ Many combustion plants in Denmark and Sweden burn waste to produce
energy-efficient district heating. Insufficient domestic supply of waste to fuel
them creates a need of extra volume which comes from e.g. Italy.
▪ Many companies have begun a green transition to reduce their carbon
output. With the right mixture of plastic, wood chips and other materials
industrial waste can be used in their cement ovens.
▪ Waste is transported in two different ways: Compressed and loose.
➢ Compressed waste bales are very heavy and therewith ideal for
transportation on rail.
➢ Loose waste is transported in open-top containers on our wagons.
▪ We run waste transports from Naples and Rome in Italy to Køge, Herning
and Aalborg in Denmark.
Digitalisation
in rail freight transport
DB Cargo is paving the way for the future of the freight operating
company.
For our customers, we are working on innovation projects in the
areas of digitalisation, automation, fleet development and
energy efficiency, with the goal of improved transport quality and
service.
Sustainability
is part of our DNA

As a customer of DB Cargo, you can, with minimum effort, make
your contribution towards climate protection and actively help
shape the world of tomorrow.
Every shipment moved from road to rail means reduced
greenhouse gas emissions.

▪ The future is green – and we share in the responsibility to make it so. Freight transport by
rail emits significantly less carbon than any other option in the transport industry.
▪ We have very low rolling resistance. This means that we can move many tonnes using very
little power.
▪ 85% of our traffic in DB Cargo Scandinavia is pulled by electric locomotives, and a large
share of the electricity used is green electricity.
▪ Our electric locomotives are equipped with braking systems that generate and transmit
energy back to the electrical grid.
We are proud to be part of tomorrow’s
green transport solutions
Certifications in Denmark and Sweden
for transport, safety & security

◼ Safety Management System – European Railway Certification for Railway Undertakings.
◼ AEO F certification (Authorised Economic Operator Full) – simplified customs and
safety/security procedures
Benefits of being our customer
No private siding necessary: Our railports and Europe-wide partners allowyou to enjoy all the advantages of rail even without having a private siding.
Eco-sustainable transport: We transport your shipment in an eco-sustainable way – “green transport”. When compared with trucks, our solutions involve reduced or zero-carbon emissions. We also make systematic use of green electricity.
We transport (almost) everything: We transport (almost) everything for you, from automotive through to consumer goods and steel — all across Europe.
Faster than by road: In the case of longer distances, trains frequently reach their destination faster than trucks. Delays caused by congestion are virtually non-existent in rail transport.
No block train required: From just a single wagonload, we organise transport tosuit your specific needs – including door-to-door transport. It always makes sense tocover the main leg by rail.
