DAYS OF SLOVENIAN TOURISM 2017 Kranjska Gora, 17 to 19 October 2017
SLOVENIA FOR 5-STAR EXPERIENCES
The DST (Days of Slovenian Tourism) event is organized in accordance with the strategic
guideline of strengthening integration in the development and marketing of Slovenian tourism
with all major partner institutions active in tourism in Slovenia: The Ministry of Economic
Development and Technology, the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB), the Tourist Association of
Slovenia, the Tourism and Hospitality Chamber of Slovenia, the Catering and Tourism Section at
the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia, the Chamber of Mountain Centres –
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, the Association of Slovenian Travel Agencies,
the Slovenian Natural Health Resorts Community, the Slovenian Convention Bureau, the
Association of Tourism Journalists of Slovenia, Economic Interest Group Hiking and Biking, and
others. DST will see several important events take place, such as: the plenary session of DST,
where the highest recognitions in tourism will be awarded, the 64th Catering and Tourism
Assembly, the event called My Country – Beautiful and Hospitable, and the 20th Slovenian
Tourism Forum.
The 2017–2021 Strategy for the Sustainable Growth of Slovenian Tourism sets
important challenges for Slovenian tourism: how to ensure not only good results in the number
of arrivals and overnight stays of foreign tourists in Slovenia but also considerably higher
revenues from the export of travel, and what should be done regarding tourism products in
accordance with the vision of Slovenia as a global green boutique destination for demanding
visitors seeking diverse and active experiences, inner peace, and personal benefits.
Slovenia is a destination for 5-star experiences. In the past foreign visitors’ expectations have
been met and exceeded. In parallel with positioning Slovenia as a "Green. Active. Healthy"
destination and the numerous awards received, the expectations of guests are growing, too. At
the same time, there has been a two-digit increase in the number of arrivals and overnight stays
of foreign tourists in recent years, which puts pressure on the assurance of quality and on
personalised experiences for individuals.
The round-table discussion will focus on all key elements needed for making the leap to higher
value added and a better guest experience. The 20th Slovenian Tourism Forum will present
inspiring examples of creating innovative tourism products for demanding guests and highlight
the examples of good practice of those who dared and succeeded. We want to know it all: when,
why, how, with whom etc. The fact that a good idea can be found in an extremely short time will
be proven by the first all-Slovenian tourism hackathon "Slovenia for 5-Star Experiences"
organised parallel to the plenary and forum parts of the DST.

activities also include updating business models in numerous
industries, will speak about the ways of increasing value added.
The insights offered through analysis of the tectonic changes in
the global business environment may help us find clearer answers
about necessary measures to be taken at the level of individual
tourism businesses and the industry as a whole.
dr. Dejan Verčič, Head of Department of Communication at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Ljubljana, and partner and knowledge director at Stratkom communication group
X, Y, Z: Tourism in hypermodernity Hypermodernity is time of ever faster speed of social changes
and adjustments, ever bigger obsession with self and selfies, and
nearly universal consumerism. Communication is global,
simultaneous and instantaneous, increasingly of many-to-many,
who rest, enjoy and experience themselves and the world in the
most various possible ways and who are in constant motion.
Where and how can we catch them?

challenges that they later try to implement in their business
environment. At the DST the challenge set to the teams, consisting
of representatives of four macro destinations – the Alps, the
Mediterranean, the Thermal Pannonian Plain, and Central Slovenia with
Ljubljana – will be to design innovative tourism solutions or
