RAGBRAI® ROUTEANNOUNCEMENT
PARTY JANUARY 21, 2017
RAGBRAI will honor the memory of Chris Charron Tuesday in Downtown Leon who passed away this March. Charron started the RAGBRAI website, “Virtual RAGBRAI” and was the driving force behind the 9-11 Memorial events on RAGBRAI in 2002. A toast to our friend Chris Charron will be held at 8pm at the Freedom Rock in downtown Leon. Free Health Check Screenings will also be conducted on the downtown square in Leon throughout the day in memory of Chris.
RAGBRAI is paying tribute to all the armed service members on our ride. Monday in Creston, the Veterans on the RAGBRAI Crew will hand out these free special caps to the first 1,000 Veterans that are registered RAGBRAI riders and show their wristbands starting at 6:00 pm in downtown Creston near the Historic Depot (in front of the RAGBRAI Information and Merchandise trailer). A short service in honor of the Veterans of RAGBRAI will begin at 9:15 pm.

A “Mile of Silence” will be dedicated to the memory of those who sadly have been injured or killed while enjoying a bicycle ride. The “Mile of Silence” will take place between the towns of Malvern and Tabor along Noyes Avenue (County Road H40) between 300th Street and 290th Street.
RAGBRAI thanks the Ride of Silence Organization, the Iowa Bicycle Coalition and the Glenwood RIDE RIGHT Committee for the efforts to bring awareness to bicycle fatalities.
