IADVL-GSB Leprosy Day Awareness REPORT

Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL)Gujarat State branch observed World Leprosy Day on 30th January, 2017 with an objective to create awareness on myths associated with Leprosy amongst public and to have update on management and rehabilitation methods associated with Leprosy among the dermatologists.

Rajkot

1.We started our day with leprosy awareness rally starting from Race course ground till Medical college RAJKOT. The event was graced by DHO(District health officer)…Dr.Mitesh Bhandari, SHO..Dr Parikh, DLO(DISTRICT LEPROSY OFFICER)….Dr Lakkad who also apprised us of the current statistics of leprosy in the state.He also invited IADVL GSB to deliver a talk on the same for awareness in GPs.

The event was well covered by Abtak TV news, Radio and local newspapers.

In this Rally we had more than 150 participants. It included Leprosy workers., nurses ,staff from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Resident Doctors from CIVIL hospital of RAJKOT and not to forget respected dermatologists from Rajkot

2 IADVL-GSB also carried out a Banner campaign in major Govt .hospitals in Gujarat as a part of public outreach program. The aim was to spread awareness about the disease, decrease stigma associated with it and aid in its early diagnosis and treatment..

3 IADVL-GSB spread information about leprosy and its current status tol public through a press release and pamphlets .in Rajkot,Morbi,Junagadh ,etc.

Leprosy is more of a social stigma and needs public awareness and help of GOVT officials in coordination with Dermatologist to fulfill the task of elimination
