Day One: Reading and comparing
Over the next two weeks, we will be looking at alternative versions of well-
known fairy tales. We will then be writing our own version of a fairy tale,
changing it in our own way. If you send me your stories, I will pass them on to
Mrs Hart who can then read them to the reception children in school.
Task One
Read the following story:

Day Two: Writing a blog entry
Read this blog entry written by Cinderella:
Week 5 29th June Ridge Class English
Write your own blog entry. You could choose to do a different part of the story
told by Cinderella or you could pick a different character e.g. Drizella (ugly step
sister) or perhaps Prince Charming. You could be really creative and write it from
the perspective of the mouse who gets turned into a horse. You could also
choose to write a blog by Prince Cinders or from the perspective of Cinderella in
the alternative version that you read yesterday.

Day Three: Writing a mini-saga
This is the mini-saga of Cinderella:
Week 5 29th June Ridge Class English
Your challenge is to write your own mini-saga of Cinderella using only 50
words. If you don’t fancy Cinderella, you could pick a different fairy tale to
write e.g. The three little pigs, Sleeping Beauty, Little Read Riding Hood.
Plot out the main events in the story first to help you e.g.
Cinderella – horrible sisters and step-mum
Made to clean every day
Wants to go to ball but can’t
Fairy Godmother makes it happen
Cinderella meets Prince
Ball ends at midnight with glass slipper left behind
Prince searches and finds her.

There are lots of different ways to tell a well-known story in a different way. You could:
Tell it from the perspective of a different character or an object from the
story
You could tell it from a first-person perspective
You could change the setting of the story e.g. Cinderella but set in space
or during WW2.
You could change the main character like in Prince Cinders or you could
swap the good and bad characters around
You could change the problem in the story, for example in The Three
Little Pigs, the houses could be made from different things or in Little
Red Riding Hood, perhaps The Big Bad Wolf never makes it to Grandma’s
house because something happens on the way.
Start to think about which you will choose for your story. Use the
planning sheet if you would like to:

Day Five: Spellings and Handwriting
This week we will be looking at words that end with the suffix ‘tial’ or ‘cial’ which makes the sound
‘shul’.
The Rule (most of the time but there are some exceptions):
If the root word ends with a vowel --- add cial
If the root word ends with a consonant -- add tial
Put the words that you have found into the table below. Can you add more of your own words to
each column, thinking about the rule above when choosing which column to put them in.
tial cial
