O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance

And exalt Him morning and afternoon. [al Ahzab 33:40-41]

- On the day of Eid, do we remember Allah? What is the purpose of Eid salah? „Eid is a day of

gratitude, a day of celebration…insha‟Allah I wanted to share certain aspects of this day….

- The word Eid itself is an Arabic word, whose root connotation is „that which comes back , time

after time, and rejoicing.‟ Its particular usage in Islam, for the two major holidays, is because

these two days are meant to be days of rejoicing.

- The Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “They are days of eating, drinking, and remembrance of God.” [Reported by Bukhari]

- The Prophet (Allah bless him & give him peace) said, “For every people there is a feast and this

is our feast.” [Reported by Bukhari]

- Are there relatives that you haven‟t talked to? How about this Eid, we make special effort to

reconcile our differences. Call up people that you haven‟t spoken to in years, and spread Salaam.

The day of „Eid is special for us all. We need to let petty differences go!

The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that

you may receive mercy. [al Hujurat 49:10]

- Smile on the day of „Eid! Smile with your family, smile with friends, smile with even

strangers…

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes

that you may know one another. [al Hujurat 49:13]

- When the day of „Eid comes, we hug or say salaam to only people we know. SAY SALAAM

TO STRANGERS. The young should greet the old, the old greet the young. The standing one

should greet the sittin, the sitting one should greet the standing one.

- We should give time to our families. If you work, then at least on another day take your kids

out. Buy your child a new toy. Kiss your wife on the forehead, as that is Sunnah. Compliment

her, tell her she‟s beautiful. Regardless of what she looks like by the end of the day!!!

- We always say remember the Ummah in your duas but really, make dua for the Ummah.

- The Prophet would make people feel special…..

As it was time for early morning Eid prayers everyone made their way to an open piece of land

on the outskirts of the city. The Prophet Muhammad (sallallaho aliehe wasallam) arrived and led

the prayers. After they had finished they all greeted each other and everyone was walking back

home.

The children running and playing in excitement, smiling and laughing, without a care in the

world. As the Prophet (sallallaho aliehe wasallam) walked back home, he suddenly became

aware of a little boy (Zuhair Bin Saghir radi allahu anhu) sitting by himself on the side of the

path.

The little boy was crying and looked very sad. The Prophet (sallallaho aliehe wasallam) bent

down and patted him on the shoulders and asked

„why are you crying?‟

„Please leave me alone‟ sobbed the little boy.

The boy didn‟t even see who was talking to him.

The Prophet (sallallaho aliehe wasallam) ran his fingers through the boy‟s hair and very gentlyand kindly asked him again why he was crying.

This time the boy said,

‘My father was martyred fighting, and now my mother has married again and my

stepfather does not want me to live at home any more. Today is Eid and everyone is happy.

All the children have new clothes and nice things to eat, but I don’t have any clothes except

what I am wearing. I have no food and I don’t even have a place to live.’

The Prophet (sallallaho aliehe wasallam) said to him, ‘I know how you feel, I lost both my

mother and father when I was a little boy.’

The boy was surprised to hear that it was an orphan who was comforting him, and when he

looked up to his great surprise it was the Prophet Muhammad (sallallaho aliehe wasallam),

and he immediately jumped up to his feet out of love and respect.

The Prophet (sallallaho aliehe wasallam) said to him „If I were to become your new father and

Ayesha radi allahu anho your new mother, and Fatima radi allahu anho your new sister, would

that make you feel better?‟ „Oh yes, that would be the best thing in the world!‟

The boy started smiling.

The Prophet took him home and gave him new clothes and good food on this beautiful day of

Eid. The boy indeed had a wonderful Eid that day

1. To wake up early in the morning

2. To clean one‟s teeth with a miswaak

3. To have a bath

4. To put on one‟s best available clothes

5. To use ittar (permissible perfume)

6. Not to eat before the Eid prayer
