Day 1
Task 1 - Create a handmade sketchbook
This is a fun activity that you can do over time. Collect together any pieces of paper that you find in your house. This could be: envelopes, wallpaper samples, writing paper, wrapping paper,
pages of old books (be imaginative) Next find a piece of cardboard to make your front and back cover. Raid your recycle
bin or wait for your next box of cereal to be emptied - this will nicely make a sturdy cover.
Fold the card in half...
Your front cover can be personalised with bits and bobs found in your home.
Next, pop your found paper on the inside - folded in half to create a centre crease.
The easiest way to bind all of this together is with an elastic band through the middle of your gathered paper (ask your postman -
they carry lots of used ones)
Or if you have a hole punch and wool - this would work well too. Be creative!
Once your sketchbook has been made - enjoy filling it full of creative drawings, sketches, paintings over the next few weeks. You can add pages and take them out over time. Don't forget to
share your creations with us on Twitter: @GomersalArt
Task 2 - Creative coffee cup rings
Create a page of coffee cup rings inspired by this page from The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse
by Charlie Mackesy
PS if you haven't bought this book yet, I highly recommend it
I have enlisted the help of my daughter (aged 7) and my husband
(www.emelbi.com) to try out these activities at home. Here are their creations:
Dip a cup or mug into a plate of liquid coffee and print onto paper. Then use your imagination to turn them into a range of creative
images. What do you see?
Task 3 - Drawing Challenges
These wonderful drawing challenges were created and shared by the lovely Louise Clazey, an art teacher from Northumberland. In your own time, see how many you can complete - don't forget to
share with us!

Day 2
Task 1 - Spring pictures
Last week, David Hockney released a new piece of artwork entitled: 'Do Remember They Can't Cancel The Spring' It's a
wonderful reminder, that even in uncertain times, there are still beautiful things outside in the world, to make us smile.
What can you find out about David Hockney and the artwork he creates? You could produce a fact file of information or simply
research using digital media.
Hockney often uses an iPad and an APP called Brushes Redux to create his images. This APP is currently free and I recommend
downloading it either onto an iPhone or iPad
(sorry I'm not sure about other types of device - but there will be drawing APP equivalents)
The beauty about Brushes Redux is that it records your drawing process. It's both fabulous and informative to see how you arrived
at the finished piece.
Take a look in your gardens, out of your windows or work from Spring time pictures.
(If you're not living in the UK, which season are you just stepping into?)
How might you use this APP to create other images over the coming weeks? Don't forget to share them with your teacher.
Here are one family’s creations using a range of devices:
Task 2 - William Morris wallpaper
Today (March 24th), in 1834, English designer and craftsman, William Morris was born. Spend some time finding out about his
life and work and use this to influence your own designs.
If you have access to a printer, you could print images and stick them into your sketchbooks; then create a design page or mood
board. Use a range of materials in your designing.
Here are some examples created by Year 1 (aged 5 and 6) after researching about the designer, Laura Ashley.
You could use these as inspiration for your sketchbook pages.
If you could design your own wall paper for your bedroom, what would it look like? If you could design your own curtains and
duvet covers, what would they look like?
Above all, over the next few weeks - keep safe and keep your
creative brains ticking over
