SILVER OAK COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY
CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
Report on Three Day Workshop at Construction site
A three day workshop named Skill Development Program was organized for pre-final year
students from 18th
December, 2018 to 20th
December, 2018 by Civil Engineering Department.
This development program involves practical exposure through visiting construction site. We are
thankful to Devani Buildcon for allowing us and sharing fruitful knowledge to the students.
Recently Devani group is constructing a commercial building named “Sai Sapphire Square”
having G+4 with three basements. Total 27 students have taken opportunity of enhancing &
exploring their practical knowledge.
Detailed information of as per daily work is described below:
Day 1:
Subject : Site Introduction, Building Measurement, Building
Drawings, Formwork Preparation.
Date : 18-12-2018
Day : Tuesday
Timings : 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Nos. of Students : 27
Faculties Involved : Asst. Prof. Anuj Bhatt, Lect. Reecha Panchal, Asst. Prof.
Kashyap Panchal
Session Conducted by : Mr. Ashish Devani
Learning Outcome : How to measure construction area, in to in distances and
from the measurement how to draw building layouts and
plan, Subsequently Students got to know how form work
can be prepared for slab, column and beam.
Day 1 Details:
The session intended to provide practical exposure to students about construction site and
working procedure. Initially Mr. Ashish Devani has introduced all the students with site.
Students have thoroughly observed all three basements and Ground floor of that commercial
building. After making observations, he taught students about how to take in to in measurement
of building and it was followed with one activity where in 5 groups where made by Devani Sir.
All groups were allotted some portion of each floor wherein they have to take measurement and
prepare a layout of that portion. First day was end up with learning of Formwork preparation.

Day 2:
Subject : Lime wash on basement wall, Introduction to
reinforcement, Bar bending & Masonry Work
Date : 19-12-2018
Day : Wednesday
Timings : 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Nos. of Students : 27
Faculties Involved : Asst. Prof. Anuj Bhatt, Lect. Reecha Panchal, Asst. Prof.
Kashyap Panchal
Session Conducted by : Mr. Ashish Devani
Learning Outcome : How lime wash is useful in underground structure or
basements, How it can apply on wall. Basic classification
of reinforcement bar, Preparation of column, beam or slab
ring, Preparation of Cement mortar & Construction of
Masonry Wall.
Day 2 Details:
On the next day, session was started with learning importance of lime wash in basement. The
session was followed with introduction of reinforcement bars, their size and classification. After
introduction students have learned how to bind reinforcement bar on site and prepared rings as a
part of activity. Students have classified reinforcement bar as per its size. After classified
reinforcement bars, students were taught about how bar bending can be done. Where in one
worker has shown, how a reinforcement bar can bend as per specification of ring for column,
beam and slab. After lunch, the second session was about masonry construction, where in
students learned how to prepare cement mortar slurry and how it can be applied for masonry
work along with keeping outer surface of wall leveled. Day 2 was concluded with masonry work.

Session Conducted by : Mr. Ashish Devani
Learning Outcome : Use of concrete cover before concreting of column, slab
and beam. How it can be attached with the super
structure, With these, How to prepare concrete mixture in
appropriate proportion, How it can be placed in skeleton
of superstructure, Why starter needs to be prepare before
concreting of column, How it can be framed.
Day 3 Details:
On the last day, Concreting was main focus of learning. Session commenced at sharp 10 o’clock
with visiting live concreting process of diaphragm wall which was followed by preparation of
concrete mixture in exact proportion where in students have joined their hands. Subsequently
they learned how concrete cover can bind with column. Once concrete get mixed properly,
students were informed to place it in column to prepare starters. The workshop was concluded
with learning of concreting, masonry work, reinforcement work, building measurement and
drawing.
