Beautiful Cardby Lisa Dickinson

Instructions:1. Cut piece of yellow cardstock to 8½" x 9".

Score halfway on 9" side, fold in half.

2. Use Silhouette to cut 4 butterflies from various patterned papers.

3. Layer butterflies together, starting with the largest in back and adhere in the center.   Top with twine-threaded button.

4. Using the same yellow cardstock used to make card base, mist cardstock with several layers of yellow mist, concentrating the heavier misting toward one edge,  to create an ombre effect.

5. Once the misted cardstock is dry, cut out chevron shapes using the Silhouette.

6. Adhere chevrons to the card base, applying the darker yellow ones at the bottom and graduating to the most lightly misted ones at the top.  Adhere layered butterfly at an angle to top of card.

7. Cut sentiment from white cardstock.  Adhere underneath butterfly.

8. Print additional sentiment on white cardstock and trim out. Apply to card with pink gem.

Tips:• Copy and paste the shape pattern within Silhouette

Studio and resize by dragging the corners of the bounding box.

• For heavier mist coverage, position bottle closer to cardstock when spraying, and move bottle farther away for lighter coverage.

Thank You Cardby Robyn Werlich

Instructions:1. Open Silhouette software program on

computer and open ‘Borders’ image by Sweet Afton. Ungroup the image and delete the 2 images on the sides of the chevron border.

2. Move chevron image to left side of mat. Copy and paste the image.

3. Move the copied image so that the ends of the chevron overlap each other and a little red lined bubble forms on the ends. Make sure it is lined up perfectly. (see screenshot image)

4. Select both images. Click on ‘Object’ on the toolbar, go to ‘Modify’ and then ‘Weld’. The two chevron borders will now be joined together and be one image.

5. Copy and paste that image and drag the copied image so that the ends of the chevron borders line up again and form a little bubble in the middle.

6. Repeat step #4.

7. Repeat the copy, paste, move, weld image as many times as you want.

8. Cut the image.

Tips:• Turn any border shape into a background simply by

overlapping the edges and welding. It is a great way to get more from one shape!

• The tops and bottoms of the chevron border will not line up perfectly when you are copying/pasting/welding the image. That’s ok! Just keep going. Once the image is cut, you can trim the top and bottom.

Wonderful World Cardby Cheiron Brandon

Instructions:1. Cut card, heart window and banner with

Silhouette.

2. Ink heart window shape with Punch ink by pressing the inkpad directly onto paper; let dry.

4. Stamp globe and people, then punch out with circle punch.

5. Adhere heart to window, then adhere circle with foam dots.

6. Stamp sentiment onto banner.

7. Adhere banner to card.

Tips:• This is an easy way to make a window box card (no

measuring or cutting necessary) since the score lines get perforated for you during the cutting process.

Instructions:1. Open a birdhouse shape in the Silhouette

software. Create a mirror image and line up the edges of the roof, allowing a very small amount of overlap.

4. Cut all pieces from white cardstock.

5. Score along the line where the weld occurred.

6. Use Distress Ink and Ink Blending tool to color the pieces as desired.

Day 3

Hugs Card Setby Jennifer McGuire

Instructions:1. In the Silhouette software, open the Ali Edwards

“hugs” download. Draw a rectangle around the frame areas and use the subtract feature to remove, leaving just the “hugs.”

2. Use the offset feature to slightly thicken the “hugs” image.

3. Add the fabric interfacing to fabric using the directions on the package.

4. Cut the “hugs” and hearts from fabric.

5. Iron the fabric to a card and add sewing with a machine.

6. Add pearls.

7. If desired, add the fabric cut pieces to a matching fabric gift bag.

Tips:• Be sure to remove the release paper from the fabric

with the interfacing before putting it on you mat. If not, you may ruin your mat. (I say this from experience.)

• Within the Silhouette software, there is usually more than one way to do an action. So just try new things out. And remember you can easily undo anything with Ctrl-Z.

Supplies:• Silhouette Cameo (SSS)

• Silhouette Four Hearts Download (SIL)

• Ali Edwards Card Sentiment Boxes Digital Die Cuts

• Sticky Back Canvas (SSS | EH | IE)

• Hero Arts Snow Notecard (SSS | EH)

Treat Jarsby Nichol Magouirk

Instructions:1. Open all images in Silhouette Software, resize,

ungroup and prepare for die cutting.

2. Change settings to cut vinyl. Load and cut.

3. Remove negative parts of vinyl and discard.

4. Pick up vinyl with transfer paper (if pieces are small) and adhere to surface.

Tips:• The smaller the shape, the trickier the vinyl can be to

work with. Use the transfer paper for easy placement on surface.

• Consider using vinyl on glass frames, mirrors, walls, ceramic home decor and more!

• Vinyl is easy to change out for new images when you tire of the current design. You could change them out seasonally!

Etched Glass Candleby Kristina Werner

Instructions:1. Create monogram stencil as shown in video in

today’s lesson. Cut out using vinyl.

2. Remove areas of vinyl you don’t need (this is called “weeding”).

3. Apply transfer paper to vinyl stencil and burnish.

4. Gently peel back transfer paper. The stencil should now be on the transfer paper.

5. Carefully place stencil on candle and press down firmly to get rid of any bubbles.

6. Remove transfer paper.

7. Apply etching creme to monogram stencil. Be sure to not go outside of the stencil area.

8. Let sit for 15 minutes.

9. Scrape off excess etching creme and then rinse under water in a sink. Gently remove the vinyl and rinse.

10. Dry glass.

Tips:• Most etching cremes are re-usable! After the waiting

period for etching has ended, carefully scrape off the excess etching creme and return it to the bottle.

• Experiment with different fonts for the monogram. This particular font worked with the letters A and E, but might not be the best for other letters.

• When rinsing, the etched glass may not be visible. Dry off the etched area and the etching will appear.

Birthday Party Invitation Cardby Kristina Werner

Instructions:1. Design custom Print & Cut design as shown in

video included in today’s lesson.

2. Print design on white cardstock.

3. Cut with Silhouette.

4. Cut and fold green cardstock to standard A2 card (5½" x 4¼") and emboss front using embossing folder and die cutting machine.

5. Punch corners using ½" corner rounder.

6. Adhere custom die cut to bottom center of card as shown with dimensional adhesive.

Tips:• Practice designing custom Print & Cut designs.

It can be daunting as first, but with practice you can master it.

• For added dimension on this particular Print & Cut design, you could also cut out the circle area and pop it off the die-cut with dimensional adhesive.

Day 5

Thanks Cardby Jennifer McGuire

Instructions:1. Open and size desired images in the

Silhouette software.

2. Create a 5½" x 4¼" rectangle.

3. Arrange and overlap the shapes on the rectangle.

4. Use the “subtract” and “subtract all” features to clean up the overlapping, allowing the pieces to all cut nicely.

5. Cut pieces on white cardstock.

6. Cover white notecard completely with adhesive.

7. Add the outside die cut piece.

8. Color the inside pieces with markers as desired. As you go, put the colored pieces into the bigger piece on the adhesive-covered card like a puzzle. (It is easiest to start with the outside pieces and work your way in.)

9. Round corners.

Tips:• For a perfectly flat card, puzzle-piecing dies cuts from

the Silhouette can be fun!

• Instead of markers, try adding color to the pieces with mists or Distress Inks.

• For more interest, try spraying pieces separately with shiny mists.

Thanks Trioby Jennifer McGuire

Instructions:1. Put two layers of art masking tape onto a piece

of cardstock. (Two layers allows more durability for the mask.) Press on firmly.

2. Cut a flower background from the mask-covered cardstock. Use a setting of 3 and it will then just cut through the mask.

3. Carefully remove the mask.

4. Add the mask to a 5" x 5" piece of white cardstock. Press in place firmly.

5. Add ink over the mask with a sponge dauber and remove the mask when done.

6. In the Silhouette software, create a 3¼" x 3¼" square. Add three small flowers and “thanks.” Cut out from white cardstock.

7. Cut a piece of white cardstock to 3½" x 3½" and ink the edges with a matching ink. Add the die cut square on top.

8. Add pearls to the center of the flowers.

9. Assemble the pieces on a 5¼" x 5¼" card.

Tips:• If you don’t have art masking tape, try using a transfer

paper, such as the one you can get to use with the Silhouette. It can be used as a mask. Or, just cut cardstock and spray it lightly with adhesive.

• Instead of inks and sponge daubers, try mists!

• Save your masks – you can use them over and over.

Gemstone Heart Cardby Nichol Magouirk

Instructions:1. Die cut card from gray cardstock using shape

from the Silhouette Store.

2. Mask off flap and back of card and stamp the front border with Hero Arts Chevron stamp design using white ink.

3. Open rhinestone design in Silhouette Software. Change settings for 8.5 x 11 Letter, move the white right roller on the machine and load template material.

4. Choose Silhouette Rhinestone Template Material in the cut settings and cut template.

5. Peel off template backing (quickly in one motion works best) and place on white backing board.

6. Position rhinestones as desired.

7. Peel backing off transfer tape and place transfer tape over rhinestone design.

8. Pick up transfer tape with rhinestones stuck to it and place over project, centering over the front flap of card.

9. Lay a cloth over design and place heated iron on top for 45-60 seconds.

10. Remove cloth and transfer tape. If rhinestones continue to stick to tape, replace tape and cloth and iron again.

11. Finish card by layering ribbon and white cardstock inside.

12. Stamp greeting inside card and tie ribbon.

Tips:• Use the template material without the cutting mat (like

you do with vinyl).

• Don’t resize rhinestone designs or you will change the template size and the rhinestones will not fit.

• If you don’t have the white backing board to place the template on, a piece of cardboard works well, too.

Thinking of You Cardby Ali Edwards

Instructions:1. Cut the Thinking Of You file with the

Silhouette.

2. Heat emboss the die cut with Versamark and Zing Embossing Powder.

3. Cut a piece of Hambly Doily Décor Transparency to 4¼" x 5½".

4. Lightly spray adhesive on top of transparency (literally on the face-up side) and adhere die cut on top.

5. Lightly spray adhesive again and then lay the Be Amazing transparency on top, creating a sandwich with the die cut as the filling.

6. For the cardstock piece of the card I cut a 5½" x 8½" piece of Bazzill Swiss Dot Cardstock and folded using a bone folder.

7. Trim one side of the card so there is just ½" left.

8. Adhere red line adhesive to this ½ strip.

9. Adhere transparent sandwich to strip.

10. Write your note or sentiment inside.

Tips:• The whole idea with this was to create a see-through

card by “sandwiching” the die-cut sentiment between two pieces of transparency and attaching it to a background piece of cardstock.

Hello Sweet Friend Cardby Nichol Magouirk

Instructions:1. Stamp the front of card with Hero Arts Lattice

stamp using white ink. Round top corners with ½" corner rounder.

2. Open designs in the Silhouette Software and resize. Cut shapes from several colors of patterned paper and piece together.

3. Open the text style menu and choose the font you want to use. Click on the Text Box in the left sidebar and type your word on the screen. I used the font Impact for the words, “Hello” and “Friend”. I used the font HaloHandLetter for “sweet”. Type each of the words separately so that you can move them around.

4. Resize as needed and slightly overlap each word as shown. Duplicate the word “sweet” and move to the side for now.

5. Click and drag a box around the entire greeting and click “weld”. You have a custom greeting ready to cut for your card!

6. Cut greeting from brown cardstock. Cut individual word “sweet” from red paper. Adhere all to card as shown.

7. Add glitter pen detail to some of the die cut pieces.

8. Stamp phrase below greeting and fruit embellishments.

9. Add a strip of washi tape.

Tips:• Mix a script font with a more block style font for a fun

contrast.

• Slightly overlap fonts before welding. If that doesn’t weld enough of the words together, use the “character spacing” in the Text Style Menu to move the individual letters closer together.
