The Bible and Devotions

Treasure is something that is precious to you, something that is valuable. Something that is

priceless. It is something that you risk your life. It is something that you hold dearly. That is

a true treasure.

The Bible is the best treasure here on Earth.

Intro:

The word "Bible" comes from the Greek word biblion which simply means "book.". It camefrom the greek word biblios which means BOOKS.

The Bible is the most remarkable book ever written:

y Written over 40 generationsy Written by over 40 authors from several countries from every walk of life

including kings (hari), peasants (magsasaka, karpintero), cupbearer (taga

hawak at taga tikim ng kape), philosophers, fishermen (mangingisda), poets,

statesmen (pulitiko), scholars , etc.y Written over a period of approximately 1500 years and in three languages -

Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

y Earliest portions date back more than 3,300 years. However, its message hasbeen fresh and relevant to men of every age and generation. (ung mga

revelations/ messages/ advices noon, applicable pa rin ngayon )

Survived time

y Being written on a material that perishes, for example an animal skin,bamboo, tree bark, having to be copied and recopied for hundreds of years

before the invention of the printing press, did not diminish its style,

correctness or existence. The Bible, compared with other ancient writings,

has more manuscript evidence than any 10 pieces of classical literaturecombined.

y Been translated more than any other book, with an increase every year* In 1500 A.D. it had been printed in 14 languages.* In 1997 - to date, at least partially translated in more than 2100 languages.

The most widely circulated bookin the world.

* 1804, more than 800 million copies issued.

Survived Persecution

The Bible has withstood vicious attacks of its enemies as no other book.

Many have tried to burn it, ban it, and "outlaw it from the days of Roman emperors

to present-day Communist or Islamic-dominated countries."

Survived CriticismEmperors and popes, kings and priests, princes and rulers have all tried their

hand at it; they die and the book still lives. If this Book had not been the Book of God, men

would have destroyed it long ago.

200yrs ago, the French skeptic Voltaire once proclaimed:One hundred years from my day there will not be a Bible in the earth except

one that is looked upon by a collector (an antiquarian curiosity seeker).

And ironically, after his death (1778), the printing press Voltaire used to

publish his writing was purchased and used by the Geneva Bible Society.

As Martin Luther once put it:Mighty rulers have raged against this book, and sought to destroy and uproot it

Alexander the Great and princes of Egypt and Babylon, the monarchs of Persia, of Greeceand of Rome, the Emperors Julius and Augustusbut they prevailed nothing.

Three Characteristics of the Bible

1. The Bible is a handbook/manual written by God for human life.

The core theme of the Bible is Jesus. And the author is the Holy Spirit of God.All the books in the bible talk about Jesus, now, people say that these writers are

hallucinating, now, scientifically po, hallucinating should be different form every person.

Hallucinations are defined as perceptions in a conscious and awake state in the absence of

external stimuli which have qualities of real perception, in that they are vivid, substantial,

and located in external objective space. Ang pinagkukunan po ng mga hallucucinations na

yan is ung deepest thoughts ng mga tao, and that depends on the way they live and their

environment. And the only possibility kung bakit may unity ang bible, is that the true

author of the bible is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the one driving the authors to write

His will.

2Pe 1:20 First, you must understand this: No prophecy in Scripture is a matter ofone's own interpretation.2Pe 1:21 No prophecy ever originated from humans. Instead, it was given by theHoly Spirit as humans spoke under God's direction.

The Bible is your instruction book for the proper functioning of your life, just like electrical

appliances need handbooks.

The Bible shows us how to have happiness, and what to stay away from in order to avoid

destruction. Read it to avoid and fix problems.

2. The Bible is alive, sharp, and useful for many purposes.

Heb 4:12 - (NLT) For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest

knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we

really are.

Minsan, akala mo pinapatamaan ka ng pastor, hindi, tinitira ka niya.

The Bible makes us realize what is wrong in our life.

(MSG) Gods powerfulWord is sharp as a surgeon's scalpel... minsan kasi, binabaril na tayo

ng kaaway, si satanas, ayaw pa rin natin patanggal ung pumasok na bala.Wowuh. Ngaun,

pag hindi yan natanggal, ma iinfect yan, magnananana, mabubulok, etc.

A professional boxer was converted to Christ. He felt it was wrong to continue hitting people

but only knew boxing as a profession. So he sought the counsel of the pastor. Pastor said, I

cant see why you shouldnt continue. Bible says that its better to give than to receive.

2 Tim 3:16-17 - All Scripture is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize

what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right.

The bible is the straight line we will compare ourselves, it is the basis. It is like

mirror showing our reflection. Man doesnt like to have his errors pointed out. God

uses the Bible like a mirror to show man what is in his heart.

It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants

us to do.

The word of God is more than enough to overcome every struggle that you have been

experiencing.

The Bible is alive, and is sharp enough to cut through all the lies and masks in your life topenetrate the very core of your being.

a. The Bible renews your mind so that your life can be transformed.When we listento theWord. Our situations and attitudes can change.

Romans 12:2 - Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the

renewal of your mind

b. TheWord teaches us how to establish norms for our lives. It helps us to makechoices, it gives us guidelines and boundaries, and theWord speaks to our needs.

In the first place what do you want, life or death? It is like a scalpel that will bring life if youallow it to touch you.

God gave us the Bible because He loves us so much to let us stay the way we are.

Isaiah 55:11 - so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,

3. The Bible is a love letter to you from God.

God speaks to you, and every verse in the Bible is for you.

your relationship with God. Minsan kasi, txt ng txt si Lord. Ndi natin binabasa.

What do you do to a love letter from someone you love? For me, I will store it where I can

read it everyday.

and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be
