Advocacy means speaking up for your rights. Advocacy is a way of making sure that
important messages are heard. Advocacy can be done different ways and by
different people. All people in society should speak up for

HPs work within ethical codes that provide a statement of shared values and acknowledge their duties.
Ethical codes set moral standard in which they all comply. Ethical standards are established at International and national
levels(at times incorporated in domestic laws). Standards focus on their obligation to serve without
discrimination Fundamental duty is to act in interest of patient regardless:
◦ Constraints◦ Pressure◦ Or contractual obligation
HPs are judged guilty of misconduct if they deviate from professional standards.
HP have great stake in Universal Declaration of Human Rights.Health Professional student

According UN, human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status.
We are all equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination.
These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible.
Universal human rights are often expressed and guaranteed by law, in the forms of treaties, customary international law , general principles and other sources of international law.
Human rights entail both rights and obligations. States assume obligations and duties under international law to respect, to protect and to fulfil human rights.
Human rights and Health concerns share the common goals of alleviating suffering and promoting the conditions for health and well-being of all people.

Health workers have a key role to play in affirming the universality of human rights and in promoting respect for them.
By affirming and supporting human rights, practitioners in all fields of health enhance the ethics of their profession and advance their commitment to health.
HP provide HR protection by fulfilling their ethical obligation{WMA Tokyo declaration1975}.
For instance respecting the Hippocratic values “doctors make a promise to take health of their clients a primary considerations”.
