•Research has shown that students who spend time reading and learning about leaders (be it fiction or non-fiction) develop an interest in leadership and begin developing characteristics related to leadership

•Create lessons that highlight fair and righteous leaders; those positive stories lead to an adjustment in student behavior

•Elect your introverted students to be table or group leaders and let them come out of their shell

• If you let your students choose, the natural leaders will always take over the show - - give your shy students a chance to step up and run the show

•This is easier for older students, but is definitely possible with younger children

•Allow students to brainstorm about experiences where they led or were led

•Have them reflect on the qualities they appreciated (and didn’t appreciate)

•Continued discussions about effective leadership help solidify the most important leadership characteristics in students’ minds
