Personal Statement

My style of Credit Management has been developed over 15 years of being in the Credit Profession, in a multitude of industries. This has now been complimented with Performance Excellence and the drive to achieve Continuous Improvements in a structured and monitored way to recognise added value.

I have championed these management styles at National Grid and I have seen the business benefits. My strengths are team forming, team management/ motivating and leading a Credit team from underachieving to outperforming its previous records.

I am ready to accept a new challenge; leading, motivating and driving a team to achieve and exceed its goals.

Employment History

National GridShared Services Order to Cash

Team Leader

The team that I lead is responsible for the Credit Management of National Grid, this spans a wide range of business units in Gas Distribution and Electricity Transmission and as such has a wide range of stakeholders, from Government Agencies, to major business through to domestic householder, my team has a range of interfaces requiring the highest standards of customer service delivery

The customer credit groups include a section of government regulated business activities, and also non-government regulated trading activities such as National Grid property portfolio.

I am personally accountable, on behalf of OtC, for major projects incidents where 100’s of property are affected by damage or adverse weather. These projects require Credit Management support, billing and recovery from the liable party.

I assist the 5 regional Gas Distribution Networks by producing a bi weekly report, which is discussed in a group teleconference led by myself. I work with Network Engineers, Process Specialists and Operational Contract staff, to support the Credit process.

CV4 9EBSince starting with National Grid in June 2012, there has been a significant reduction in both the value and the age of disputed debt. The reason for the success in these two key areas is attributed to the communication that I have nurtured between OtC and the 5 Networks.

I approach all disputes by asking questions to myself on behalf of the customer so that I can deliver a detailed, logical and factual response that is fully detailed. By providing this quality of response the thinking is that the invoice will be taken out of dispute, and turned to capital, so that the resource can be applied to new projects and profit.

To facilitate change and progress I lead meetings and produce action plans on issues with the Networks and internal construction staff. I attend meetings to assess commercial risk, litigation benefits and pitfalls, and final account resolution operating within set parameters from a senior board level, whilst trying to achieve the best possible return for my company.

These meetings can be with all sizes of companies from sole traders to multi nationals, such as insurance companies, loss adjusters, utility companies, and government. I regularly communicate with a cross section of people with a wide variety of specialism’s and company positions.

I believe that it is not just my role to lead the Credit team, but to deliver a board level approved strategy to prevent future loss of capital by improving process.

My team leader duties include planning and setting KPI’s and S.M.A.R.T. targets for the team and individuals. I hold regular 121 meetings with my direct reports and deliver continuous development to support staff through difficult issues. I identify training needs and deliver training personally or via an external source. Part of my Team Leader role includes delivering constructive comments and corrective action when requested. In addition I act as an escalation point for problematic customers that can be abusive and difficult.

Completing month end reporting for submission to the board is part of my role. I report on a range of measures from rejected invoices, age and value of disputed debt and staff performance. I used bespoke computer systems such as shared network databases and Excel reporting. I have a high skill level for programming Excel. All of the reports that I produce are sent to the UK Head of Networks. The accuracy and deadlines require strict adherence and I am confident I could transfer these reporting skills easily to a new role.

Volvo Financial ServicesCredit ServicesPortfolio Credit Manager

March 2010 – March 2012

My role at Volvo was split into two core areas; managing the debt portfolio of the fleet clients and managing the factoring facility between Volvo Financial Services Limited and the Volvo Penta UK business.

The fleet role was based on ensuring continuity and the highest possible service levels in addition to securing payment from the major accounts and ensuring they are settled to term.  The success in this role was pivotal to the overall collections departments set KPI’s by Sweden, as a delinquent debt would feature heavily on the month end reports.

CV4 9EBMy other main responsibility was to offer a fully integrated credit management process by being the commercial lead for a factoring portfolio for the Volvo Penta element of the Volvo UK market.

I collected all of the debts from the dealer network, and from the major prestigious yacht builders from which Volvo Penta engines are integrated key suppliers.  This role was again highly commercially focused but with a clear mandate to perform on debt collection.  Due to the nature and the competitiveness of the business, the margins are sensitive to overdue payments and a small number of invoices can amount to high value arrears.

I reduced the debtor days in the first six months that I worked at Volvo; I had forged links between other Volvo business areas trying to overcome the barriers to communication that a global business suffers.  I was able to achieve noticeable results by reducing the aged debt significantly and in turn the number of monthly delinquent accounts by 60%.

Interpersonal skills and the right approach to problem solving has been a real asset that I brought to Volvo. I feel that with my skills I made a difference within the business, and that I overcame the barriers to communication effectively.
