We met in a really unique place - West africa! We were there for work and didn’t expect that our connection would grow to love. We were in Africa because we have a strong commitment to helping children and communities and we have careers that enable us to do that.

We married a few years ago and settled into a quiet, yet exciting life together. We recently bought a house and got two kittens from the local animal shelter. We’re enjoying putting doWn roots and are looking forWard to the joy of Welcoming a child into our home.

we enjoy walking in our neighborhood or driving to the mountains or the beach. we also love reading or watching shows that help us understand more about the world. we appreciate local art and have enjoyed many plays and concerts. These activities provide balance in our lives. Balance and perspective are things we want to instill in our child.

Amy is the family planner and keeps us organized and on

track. She’s a compassionate person and commits a large amount of time contributing to the lives of others. She sees one of her roles in life as helping friends, coworkers, neighbors, and even strangers along their journey.

amy loves adventure and this has taken her to many different

places around the world. Although she loves traveling, Amy is happily settled in her life and looking forward to welcoming a child into our home.

Amy is a program director at an organization that works on education programs for at-risk children and youth in communities internationally. She loves that she gets to help children and families that are struggling and she occasionally travels to some really interesting places.

Through work, Amy understands that a child’s early years are critical for their development. A few years ago, Amy started working from home to give her more flexibility and when the baby comes, she’ll reduce her hours to focus more on our family.

david is a professor with a focus on agriculture. He teaches students how to grow crops in our state and resolves problems faced by farmers. while David’s focus is local agriculture, he brings the same passion to farmers around the world.

david’s schedule is flexible, which will be important as we raise our child. His job has taught him that if farmers are successful, their families prosper and their children have more opportunities to succeed.

dAvid is probAbly the

kindest person you will

ever meet (seriously!). He has a big heart and it shows in his career and personal life. Like Amy, he focuses on helping others.

david is the sentimental one who holds on to things that represent important memories. He loves to spend time outside, especially on the farm he grew up on. He’s often working in the yard or taking a long walk in our neighborhood.

David played several sports, but his favorite is baseball. He played catcher as a child and now loves teaching the game to kids. David continues to throw the ball around with buddies and watch games at the minor league ballpark.

We are connected by travel. David travels for work and also volunteers abroad in exciting places like Central America and Africa.

We are really excited about our home! our 1940s house is open and full of light and the backyard has plenty of room for kids to play. Common themes in our house are wooden floors, interesting books, family antiques, and pictures of those we love.

the neighborhood is full of families with children and

the elementary school is right down the street. We are also walking distance from downtown museums and other family-friendly activities.

We bought this house With children in mind and We think it Will be a great place to groW up!

We have two kitties, a brother and sister! We got them from the animal shelter a little over a year ago. the boy, that we call Brother (original, right?), is a big guy with lots of energy and love to share. the girl, that we call (can you guess?) Sister, is the shy one who needs a bit more of her own space. they keep us on our toes and provide some company for Amy when she is working at home.

our life journeys have led us to the christian faith. Faith can be complicated, but over the years our faith became clearer and in many ways simpler. as children we were taught that our faith needed to be our own and that we needed to ask the right questions in order to get meaningful answers. Helping a child ask and answer key questions will be one of our most important and meaningful roles in parenting. The love of God goes far beyond the doors of a church and we will help our child understand the importance of faith’s positive role in our daily lives.

We are blessed to have great relationships With family and friends! David’s parents live on the farm he grew up on near a historic town in North Carolina. His dad is a retired school teacher and skilled wood worker who loves the outdoors and still farms. His mom was a homemaker and nurse who worked in the community and volunteered with youth 4-H programs.

both of us loved groWing up With our sisters and We respect the people they’ve become. David’s sister is involved in emergency services in the area and Amy’s sister is becoming an experienced organic gardener while helping run a local restaurant.

Amy’s closest friends are people she has known since childhood. David keeps in touch with school friends and has some great, long-term relationships with coworkers. Many of our friends have growing families and we’ve enjoyed getting to know their spouses and children.
