Data is collected from a web site based on what the user does during the visit.

This data is converted into graphs, charts and tables by a “log analyzer.”

The rendered data is viewed by the web content managers.

If all went well, the data helps you determine which aspects of the website work towards your web objectives!

There are three basic terms you will hear regarding Web site statistics.

1.Hit 2.Page View3.Visit / Session

Hit - A request for a file from the web server. The number of hits received by a website is frequently cited to assert its popularity, but this number is extremely misleading and dramatically over-estimates popularity.

Page View - A request for a file whose type is defined as a page in log analysis. A single page view may generate multiple hits.

Visit / Session - A series of requests from the same uniquely identified client with a set timeout. A visit is expected to contain multiple hits (in log analysis) and page views.
