Report

A 30 days Faculty Induction Programme was organized by School of

Education at Central University of Punjab, Bathinda under PMMMNMTT

(MHRD sponsored) from 04th June to 3rd July 2019. In this programme, 39

university & college teachers participated, who belonged to Punjab, Gujarat,

Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, U.P and West Bengal

states.

The Programme had four sessions daily of 11/2 hour each. The experts

deliberated on different topics as prescribed in “Content Framework for

Induction Training of Faculty in Universities/Colleges/ Institutes”, Department

of Higher Education (MHRD) followed by training activities related to the topic.

Different sessions were conducted by

experts namely:

Professional University discussed the

major problems of the organizations in

the present era and emphasized the role

and significance of the Governance for

the Effectiveness in the organization

Prof. Modi also presented the overview of

various NIRF and NAAC Parameters

for the accreditation of the

institutions.

Prof. R. G. Saini Adesh University,

Bathinda discoursed on the

university officers’ role, powers and

responsibilities of VC, Pro-VC,

Prof. A. S. Chawla Vice-

Chancellor, RIMT University

deliberated on the academic

leadership by covering the

elements of triple helix of

leadership competencies i.e.,

Conceptualize, Empathize, and

Communicate. He highlighted the

Academic Leadership Crisis

which are Recruitment of the Vice

Chancellors, Political

interference, Corruption,

Employees Unionism,

Governance and control Sticky,

regulations, Incompetent Support System and further suggested the

Strategies to build Academic Leadership.

Dr. S. Pany Central University

of Punjab, Bathinda deliberated

on development of objective

tools of assessment like short

answer & completion type or

selection type i.e. true-false or

alternative response, matching

and multiple choice tests etc.

He conferred that basic

considerations for construction

of objective tools of assessment

might be matching the items

and tasks to the learning outcomes as directly as possible, obtaining a

representative sample of all intended outcomes, eliminating irrelevant

barriers to the answer, preventing unintended clues to the response and

focusing on improving learning and instruction.

expounded about the utilization

University of Punjab, Bathinda

familiarized the participants with

the Law of Copyright, Patent and

Access to Genetic Resources and

procedure for obtaining a patent.

Prof. P Ramarao Dean Academic Affairs, Central University of Punjab,

Bathinda described about the

University Act, Legislation and

its impact on the

higher education sector by

emphasizing the five models of

University Governance. He also

discussed about the work

ethics and ethical behaviour

followed by factors influencing

ethical managerial behavior

and suggested the checklist for

dealing with ethical dilemmas.

Dr. P.K. Mishra Central University of Punjab, Bathinda addressed the

financial management process and

best practices by familiarizing with

the procedures related to financial

reporting. He shared the

monthly/annual variances against, budget, Balance sheet Preparation and

submission of Income tax returns.

Prof. Kirandeep Singh Panjab University, Chandigarh deliberated on

Observation: A method of teaching

and Teacher: A Navigator. She

discussed the ways to impart

knowledge or instruct using different

types of observation and stressed

that it has many advantages like

opportunity to record information as

it occurs in a setting, study actual

behaviour, study individuals who

have difficulty verbalizing their ideas

(e.g. pre-school children), easy to

complete, saves time and it can be

used in natural or experimental

settings.

Prof. J. S Dhillon Vice- chancellor,

Guru Kashi University expounded

the reforms in education sector and

suggested survival skills that 21st

century educators have to learn to

make learning effective. He

highlighted the Current Trends in

Global Higher Education and its

influence on Indian Higher

Prof. Agyajit Singh Former Head, Deptt. of Psychology Punjabi University,

Patiala emphasised on Emotional

Intelligence which is a key to

success in professional life and

highlighted the domains of

emotional intelligence. He also

suggested the ways to develop

emotional intelligence in life and

convened on Emotional

Intelligence: Concept, Approaches

and Importance in Work & other

Areas of Life and focused that

emotional quotient can be

instrumental in achieving success

in many areas of professional life

and can help in increasing

productivity, speeding up

adaptation to change, developing leadership skills and stimulating creativity.

People with high EQ are happier,

healthier and more successful in

social relationship in their

profession.

Prof. Meenakshi Sharma

Punjabi University, Patiala

deliberated about the gifted

child with respect to their

identification, education and

enrichment. She also

deliberated on the type of

diversity which can be noticed

among the learners and the

ways to manage the diversity. She suggested the various test for the

identification of Gifted child in the classroom i.e., Mental test, Aptitude tests,

Achievement tests, Report of parents and Teachers’ opinion with the strategy

for the educating the gifted student.

Prof. S. K Bawa Central University of

Punjab, Bathinda expounded on

process of curriculum designing and

development as per CBCS system

i.e., Curriculum process its

objectives, course structure, content,

transactional modes, suggested

readings for developing the

curriculum.

Prof. S. K. Yadav NCERT, New Delhi

deliberated on Performance

Indicators and detailed the

performance standards

communicate expectations for each

responsibility area of the job

performance and addressed the

issues & prospectus of Higher

education. He suggested that

PINDICS can be used by

college/universityteachers

themselves for assessing their own

performance and to make continuous efforts to reach the highest level.

Dr. Deepa Kauts Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar addressed micro

teaching & subject based teaching

skills which are required in the

educators of 21st century. She

also shared that teachers who

have comprehensive knowledge of

their subject matter and allow

their students to actively

participate in the lessons, they

are much aware of the problems

the students. The information the

teachers convey to their students

should be updated and should

reflect the latest scientific facts of

the field. With the effective

teaching skills teachers must

have due focus on lesson planning, offering variety, using instruction time

effectively, ensuring active

participation of learners,

monitoring of the students’ learning

& development and ensuring the

students’ self-control.

Prof. J. S Saini NITTTR,

Chandigarh discussed about

evaluation of higher education

sector of India with respect to role

and contribution of different

universities to the higher

education.

Prof. Amit Kauts Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar talked about the integration of ICT to enhance

teaching learning and

evaluation of learners. He also

explained lesson planning &

approaches to lesson planning.

He commented that

enlightened, emancipated and

empowered teachers lead

communities & nations in their

march toward better and higher

quality of life. They reveal and

elaborate the secrets of higher

values in life & nurture

empathy for the fellow beings.

Prof. Ananda Padhan Apeejay Satya University, Gurugram deliberated on

curriculum design &

development, conventional &

non-conventional methods and

emphasised on the four steps

of the curriculum development

process (Ralph Tyler’s Model).

He also discussed about the

types of projects i.e., Producer

type, Consumer type, Problem

type, and Drill type followed by

the Steps in executing a

project.

Prof. Vasudha Kamat Former Vice-Chancellor, SNDT Women’s University

conducted a Workshop on ICT

Tools in Teaching and

Learning through virtual mode

and took 6 sessions in two

days. She deliberated on ICT

and its relevance in 21st

Century Higher Education and

provided hands on experience

of Google Drive (Google Slide

and Google Doc), Moocs, LMS

and OER. (4) Open Education

Resources (OER) for learning

(5) Create a Blog using

blogger.com and Use of Padlet

(Group Work) and Create a padlet (6) Tools for Formative Assessment

(Assessment for learning) and Develop tests/quiz on the tools learnt (7) Tools

for Summative Assessment (Assessment of learning) Rubrics and e-Portfolio

(8) MOOC (Massive Open

Online Course) SWAYAM

Platform. She ensured hands

on experience to one and all

through individual as well as

group work. She also talked on

use of ICT in assessment and

highlighted three types of

assessment i.e. diagnostic,

formative and summative.

Career Experts, Bathinda

deliberated on understanding

focused on employability, skills required, skill deficit, recent developments,

game/case and path forward.

Prof. S P Malhotra addressed the

process of conducting

interdisciplinary research,

Integration of research with

pedagogy and procedure for writing

a project for funding. He also

highlighted the hot topics for

interdisciplinary research and

suggested the checklist for a good

interdisciplinary research proposal.

He shared the ways to integrate

teaching and research.

Dr. Amandeep Singh Lovely

Professional University, Phagwara

discussed the use of Interactive

tools in Teaching and elaborated

the tools of cybergogy through

demonstration and Blending active

learning with web technology i.e.,

wordpress, google classroom,

edublogs, moodles, skype, TED

videos, Teacher Tube, Adobe

Spark, Open Talk, KhanAcademy .

Quest. The web quest design is

presented in six parts called

building blocks referred to as the

Introduction, Task, Process,

Resources, Evaluation, and

Conclusion. She conferred that

these building blocks are tightly

formatted Internet lessons that

leave little chance for students to

get distracted or be exposed to inappropriate websites. She also discussed

about the Web Quest taskonomy i.e., compilation task, judgement task,

retelling task, mystery task, persuasion task, creative task, analytic task,

design task, Journalistic task, self- knowledge task.

play, using sign language, providing an advanced organizer, Taking a field trip

, demonstrating (for example, drawing, sculpting, constructing, playing a

game), Watching a dance, Using sign language/ gestures, Using Braille. She

also provided Specific Accommodation Suggestions for Visually Impaired

Students.

ways to identify the fake

news and familiarize the

vivid method of online

verification and fact-

checking. He also

highlighted some

popular fake stories in

Indian media and

conferred

Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Critical thinking these are

skills required for this century. We have to foster critical thinking among the

masses to help them in differentiate between information/ misinformation.

Critical mind is fact checking mind. They question every piece of information,

analyse and evaluate it based on their pervious knowledge.

explained the organization

presented the Best Practices which is adopted by the central university of

Punjab that are digital initiatives with respect to administration & finances,

online admission process, fully automated library, Off-Campus Access &

University Management System, Information Knowledge sharing platforms for

transparency, Computer Literacy Programme, Service-learning Programme,

Unnat Bharat Abhyiaan, Robust

IT connectivity, Best Student

Awards, Best Teacher Awards,

Outstanding Research Award,

Incentives for award for national

/ international recognition,

Automated Result Processing

System. He also highlighted the

status of central university of

Punjab and Renewable Energy &

Good Environment Practices i.e.,

solar water heater, solar lights,

windmill, sewage treatment

plants, and desalination plants.

All participants were assigned different topics to present in the last

session using different modes of transactions which was followed by

interaction with all participants and concluded by the chairperson.

Dialogue method, presentation through PPT, activity method,

explanation with different modes were commonly used during their

presentations of assignments.

Two Field visits were also conducted to central university of Punjab for

giving demonstrations on digital podium, e notice boards, smart boards,

etc. and Talwandi sabo

Ten minutes were given to fill up the feedback proforma every day after

the last session, which was analysed and feedback was also conveyed to

the experts.
