“There are some people, who live in a dream world, and
there are some who face reality; and then there are those
who turn one into the other”
Douglas H. Everett
The idea of dedicating a day for students’ activities was initiated in the 1990s by Dr. Muayed A. Jajo under the headship of Prof. Dr. Muna Al-Alwan. At that time, Prof. Jajo was a jack of all trades, and a master of all. He was not only a professor at the department, but also an actor, singer, musician, composer, and a poet. From 1998 till 2013, which is almost (20) years with many succes-sive generations, student workshops passed through years of lethargy, and were accordingly stopped for one reason or another due to the hard circumstances of the country. However, in 2013, the head of cultural committee, Asst. Prof. Inam Najm Jaber, in collaboration with Dr. Rana H. Al-Bahrani, the Head of the Department at that time, re-launched the idea of dedicating a special workshop for students to show all their potential creativities. That was during the academic year 2014/2015, particularly under Dr. Maysoon's Extra-Class Activities when students spent one whole day of fun.
In 2020/2021, the appearance of Covid-19 epidemic was a disaster that paralyzed many aspects of human lives, changing it into a sort of monotony. It has thus become urgent for people in general and professors in particular to revive the senses of love, life, hope, and happiness by mixing between education and entertain-ment. Accordingly, the day of students’ workshop has been resumed to re-enhance the interest in life, future, and education and meditate the impact of life hardships. This is during the headship of Asst. Prof. Dr. Maha Qahtan Sulaiman.
As it is seen, the history exits through members' willingness and hard work. Being an essential asset of the Department of English, the students are encouraged to conduct their own extra-class activities through which they can show their creative potentialities and record their vibrant sense of collaboration.
