Positive Education
Our children across the school have been focussing their recent Positive Education lessons on
Protective Behaviours. This was recognised last week with our Day for Daniel free dress day which
raised $235.80 to support the important work of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation in developing
programs that encourage children to Recognise, React and Report.
To consolidate this learning further, the children in the P-2 classes will be having a visit from “Ditto”,
the Bravehearts’ cat, next week on Wednesday 6th November 2019. The show, “Ditto’s Keep Safe
Adventure” is underpinned by the following six principles of personal safety:
Differentiating ‘yes’ and ‘no’ feelings
Recognising the bodies ‘warning signs’ Body ownership
Helping children identify language and feelings associated with secrets
Reinforcing that there is no secret that children cannot tell someone
What to do if you feel unsafe or unsure
The show aims to teach children these essential principals through songs such as ‘Run and Tell (someone you can trust)’ and ‘Private Parts (they belong to me)’. Children also learn ‘Ditto’s 3 Rules’, which are: We all have the right to feel safe with people.
It’s ok to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure.
Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone about it. As part of the program, children are each given a Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Activity Booklet to take home. We encourage parents to look at the booklet with the children, using the activities to help cement the personal safety messages from the show.

Office News
Greetings parents and guardians
This term we are looking at updating the profiles of students with special needs within our Oneschool system. As I mentioned last term the
Department of Education (DoE) supports students with different abilities through a process called the Education Adjustment Program (EAP),
by which students who fall within a number of various disability categories can be diagnosed, verified and then receive extra support. This
then allows the school to receive extra teacher and teacher aide time every year for those students on top of the allocations that are made
for all students at our school. It allows us to give them extra support in class and with assessments, as well as implement various
interventions for them too.
We have also received a rather large final shipment of resources courtesy of the cluster school budget which I have access to as part of my
role here. This means Yungaburra gets financial support by belonging to the ‘cluster’ of primary schools connected to the Special Education
Program (SEP or HUB as it’s known there) at Atherton High. There’s lots of sensory resources to assist students and teachers in classrooms,
as well as model kits for the Kit Kat Club I run at lunch times. Thank you Atherton High. If you have any queries about support for your
children here or the lunchtime club just come and have a chat. Have a good weekend.
