Distributive Trade and Electronic commerce Annual Retail Trade Survey (ARTS): Re-packaged non-store sales data for better

accessibility on CANSIM (Table 080-0026). Retail trade, total sales and e-commerce sales, by North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).

Project to revise the collection and dissemination of sub-annual retail commodity data according to the North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) and released estimates for the first quarter of 2016 in July 2016.

The Monthly Retail Trade Survey began collecting in 2015 data on retail e-commerce (on line) sales through retail stores on an experimental basis. Plans to begin to collect on a monthly basis sales by electronic shopping and mail-order houses in January 2016 to eventually be in a position to produce a sub-annual indicator of retail e-commerce sales.

Testing under way to add a question on the value of e-commerce sales (B2B) to annual financial surveys.  If successful, will adopt in cycle for reference year 2015.

 A new Large Monthly Retailers panel is expected to be selected for dissemination beginning January 2016.

As of January 2016 capacity utilization questions will be added to the MSM. This will improve the quality of the data series being currently released.

Agriculture Division released for the first time on September 17 model-based principal field crop estimates, which provide yield and production estimates for Canada's principal field crops. The estimates are calculated with a new and innovative approach developed by Statistics Canada in close partnership with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. This method uses a model that incorporates coarse resolution satellite data from Statistics Canada's Crop Condition Assessment Program, data from Statistics Canada's Field Crop Reporting Series and agroclimatic data. This is the first release of crop estimates produced according to this methodology. The modeled yield estimates constitute a supplemental release in advance of the September publication of the Field Crop Reporting Series.

Energy Statistics Framework (ESF) – Developed with internal (SNA) & external (NRCan) partners, ESF completed in June of 2014 to provide strategic direction for relevant, timely, coherent and quality data on Canadian energy supply and demand. Identifies priority areas.

A New Direction for Canadian Transportation Statistics has involved consultations with industry researchers and practitioners as well as the provinces via Transport Canada;

Measuring the Digital Economy at Statistics Canada from both ICT supply (e.g., telecommunications) and ICT demand (Internet use surveys) perspectives; and
