  • Exporting Safari Bookmarks

    Start Safari. From the Bookmarks menu, select "Show All Bookmarks"the bookmarks browser window will appear.

    From the File menu, select "Export Bookmarks..."

    Start Firefox. From the Bookmarks menu, select "Show All Bookmarks" the bookmarks browser window will appear.

    From the Library window, point and click on the Star tool, select "Export Bookmarks to HTML..."

    The Export Bookmarks File dialog box will appear: –Save as: Firefox bookmarks–where: Desktop–click "Save"

  • Backing Up All User Data

    First, in your external hard drive, create a folder called "Backup" to place all of your content from your laptop.

    Next, click on the Finder icon in your doc.

    Then, on the left side of the Finder window, select your user folder (house icon labeled with your KS user name).

    Now, drag the Desktop, Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, Public and Sites folders to your external hard drive (into the "Backup" folder).

    ***If you saved files in areas other than your user folder, such as "Macintosh HD", make sure those files are also backed up

  • Confirm Your Data Transfer

    After all folders and files have been transferred over to your "Backup" folder on your external hard drive, use the "Get Info" command to compare the file size of the folders on your

    computer to those on your external hard drive.

    On your computer, select each folder (i.e. "Desktop", "Documents", etc.) by clicking once on the folder. Then, hold down the "control" button, click on your

    folder, and choose "Get Info".

  • Restoring All User DataClick on the FINDER icon in your dock.

    On the left side of the FINDER menu, select your user folder (house icon labeled with your KS user name).

    Drag the Desktop, Movies, Music, Pictures, Public and Sites folders from your back-up on your external hard drive to the folder.

    DO NOT DRAG AND REPLACE THE DOCUMENTS FOLDER.

    If the "Do you want to replace" window appears, click the "Replace" button.

  • Restoring Safari BookmarksLaunch each browser (Firefox and Safari) and quit out of them.

    On the left side of your Finder window, choose your Home folder (house icon) and click on the LIBRARY folder.

    Drag the SAFARI folder from your external hard drive to the LIBRARY folder.

    If the "Do you want to replace" window appears, click the

    "Replace" button.

  • Restoring Firefox BookmarksOpen up Finder --> select your User Folder --> select Application

    Support --> select Firefox --> select the folder that ends in ".default".

    Now, locate the "bookmarks.html" file on your external hard drive and drag this file to your ".default" folder on your computer.

    If the "Do you want to replace" window appears, click the "Replace" button.

  • Confirm Your Data Transfer

    Use the "Get Info" command (command + i) to compare the file size of the folders on your computer to those on the external hard drive.

    On your computer, individually select each folder (i.e. "Desktop", "Documents", etc.).
