Dashboard Concept

• A Dashboard Concept is the process of collecting and analyzing data and the patterns it produces to better improve decision making and overall productivity.

• These performance metrics then allow organizations to better understand how to reach their objectives in the most cost efficient manner.

Dashboard

• A dashboard is an executive information system user interface that (similar to an automobile's dashboard) is designed to be easy to read.

• For example, a product might obtain information from the local operating system in a computer, from one or more applications that may be running, and from one or more remote sites on the Web and present it as though it all came from the same source.

Types of Dashboards

• Stand Alone Software Applications

• Web Browser Based Applications

• Desktop Applications

Dashboards - Specialties• Specialized dashboards may track all corporate

functions. Examples include human resources, recruiting, sales, operations, security, information technology, project management, customer relationship management and many more.

• Dashboard projects involve business units as the driver and the information technology department as the enabler.

• The success of dashboard projects often depends on the metrics that were chosen for monitoring. Key performance indicators, balanced scorecards, and sales performance figures are some of the content appropriate on business dashboards.

Benefits of Dashboards• Visual presentation of performance measures.• Ability to identify and correct negative trends.• Measure efficiencies/inefficiencies.• Ability to generate detailed reports showing

new trends.• Ability to make more informed decisions

based on collected business intelligence.• Align strategies and organizational goals.• Save time over running multiple reports.• Gain total visibility of all systems instantly.

Application of Dashboard in ISU

Performance Management• Given the cost pressures, utilities are

committed to continuous performance improvement and the critical enabler behind the successful performance improvement is a comprehensive reporting system that we call a dashboard.

• This Dashboard will provide a view to the “Key Performance Indicators” (KPI’s) of the commercial operations.

Application of Dashboard in ISU

• The dashboard shall collate data in a consistent manner from many diverse sources across the various commercial functions of the utility and then present it across all parties, from the members of the field staff up to the senior management.

• From the dashboard, users can drill down to study the performance data in detail and take necessary corrective measures if necessary.

Utility Dashboard

Function of Executive Dashboard in ISU

• Various utility offices, such as Circle, Division, Sub division etc can interact with master Metering (AMR as well as non AMR enabled) / Billing database at data center.

• Support selective monitoring of important summarized data at user-defined intervals that would aid in decision-making for distribution operations and planning actions.

Function of Executive Dashboard in ISU

• Highlighting of key performance indicators like AT&C losses, SAIFI, SAIDI etc will be highlighted for every level of the network hierarchy.

• Energy balance at different network levels will be captured and displayed. This enables monitoring losses by region (subdivision/division/circle etc) and by network asset (transformer/feeder).

Page 13: Dashboards In ISU

Function of Executive Dashboard in ISU

• Monitoring of losses at different voltage levels will be enabled.

• It will enable capture and display of data from multi-parameter load survey analysis. Monitoring of usage/demand patterns would thus be enabled.

• Peak load at different network levels could be monitored.

• Performance factors like load factor, power factor, utilization factor, load duration curves would be monitored.

Function of Executive Dashboard in ISU

• The dashboard will enable transformer load management. User will be able to monitor overloading/under loading, phase imbalance, load factor, utilization factor, load duration curves of transformers.

• The dashboard will enable feeder load management. User will be able to monitor overloading / under loading, phase imbalance, load factor, utilization factor, load duration curves of feeders etc.

Function of Executive Dashboard in ISU

• The software would support personalization of the dashboard displays as per the user’s preferences.

• Navigation from one level of network hierarchy to another will be intuitive and drilldown will be possible.

Dash Boarding Solution by SAP

SAP BusinessObjects Dashboard Builder Software

• The drag and drop framework allows you to display your reports in a unified dashboard view.

• Display all business intelligence content in one consolidated view.

• Build composite dashboards with layout and design tools.

• Simplify the creation of interactive dashboards.

• Spice Communications India is using this dashboard solution.

Recent Trends

• SAP introduced a dashboard on 19th May 2009, developed in partnership with SteamServe that readily displays cost and carbon emission for utility companies.

• This dashboard allows utilities to monitor their costs and services to customers.

• Historical data allows utilities to create data models that can provide insight into how costs can be reduced in the operations.
