  • In June, 2017, W.S. Darley & Co. purchased the assets of Fireboy, Xintex and Aetna Engineering based in Grand Rapids, MI, forming the new com-pany Fireboy-Xintex, LLC.

Founded in 1973, Fireboy is a developer of marine pre-engineered and custom engineered fire safety and suppression equipment. Xintex is a pro-ducer of gas and fire detection equipment. Aetna engineering specializes in digital instruments like tachometers. The company also has manufacturing operations in Poole, England.

With more than one million systems in service and roughly 75 percent of the recreational marine market, Fireboy suppression systems are well known in the marine markets. Fireboy-Xintex also serves defense, commercial, industrial, truck, bus, rail and other markets.

Fireboys CEO Larry Akins, who will stay on with the company as an owner for up to five years through the transition process, said, The feeling was just right with the Darleys: our core values are very much the same and our management styles mirror one another.

Paul C. Darley, CEO of W.S. Darley & Co., said, It is our fourth acquisi-tion in the last 20 years and is by far the largest. Our two companies are completely aligned from a cultural aspect and we have overlapping

customers in the marine and defense markets. The electronics engineering and manufacturing capabilities will enhance our position in the fire service.

Aside from the name change from Fireboy-Xintex, Inc. to Fireboy-Xintex LLC, the company said its management team, operations, manufacturing and all product models and numbers will remain unchanged.

After more than 10 years of research, Paul Darley is excited to release SOLD! The book focuses on The Art of Relationship Sales Using Emotional Intelligence and Authentic Leadership. PAUL DARLEY

Leading a company, fire department, a military platoon or any organization is both a privilege and a huge responsibility; a leader casts a long shadow that everyone is watching.

Growing up in a family business and becoming president at the young age of 35, I always knew that I had to earn it! I took a great deal of pride in being the first one at work and the last to leave for years.

While the first few years are critical, you need to continue to build mutual trust with the people around you and be able to inspire them. Let your team know that you put their interests and the organizations interests first.

Leadership does not come with a title. It is earned each day by the small actions you take while working with people around you. They watch you closely some inherently want you to fail for one reason or another, but most look to take direction and support you.

Over the past 10 years, Ive had an opportunity to watch and study numerous military leaders, and the common theme is that they lead by example and always go first. By doing so, they quickly instill confidence in the troops they lead while earning their respect.

Its been said in many different ways, but great bosses are good communicators who share information, hire right, celebrate wins, and are empathetic to the needs of others.

Be the pacesetter, the example setter, be consistent, let your people know where you stand and most importantly create other leaders.

At Darley, were all about creating leaders through our core values including employee empowerment, teamwork and recognition. Its reflected in our 2017 employee engagement scores which were the highest since weve started conducting them over 20 years ago. We trust you also see it our teams ability to promptly, fairly and respectfully work with you.

Were proud of the recent awards highlighted in this newsletter, but were mostly honored and humbled to serve those who protect us all so selflessly. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.

The above is an excerpt from Sold! Chapter 11 Transitioning from a Salesperson to a Leader.

Lead From the Front and Earn it! In the city where the Revolutionary

War began, another revolution contin-ues to spread, that is the Darley Pump Revolution. While perhaps not of as high of consequence to the American general public, those who protect these citizens have continued to gravitate to Darley pumps. Boston has become the most recent major fleet to wave the Darley Pump banner. After thoroughly review-ing and researching all available manufacturers and products on the market, Boston selected the Darley PSM pump.

Working with E-One and dealer Greenwood Emergency Vehicles, the Boston FD has placed 23 Pumpers in service in 2017 all equipped with the PSM. Lt. Jim OBrien commented to Jason Darley, It was a tough process determining what would be the best pump product as we look to rejuvenate and standardize our fleet to meet the current needs of the Boston FD and the customers we serve. After working with your team, we are convinced that not only do we have the best available product, but also the strongest support team possible in Darley to serve the citys current and future needs.

The PSM in the Boston pumpers is rated at 1250 GPM and utilizes Darleys Large Eye Impeller. This combination allowed the FD to save some crucial space and weight against the vehicles GVWR while not sacrificing flow capabilities. The combination being fed from hydrants has flowed in excess of 1900 GPM allowing the FD to feel confident in the pumps ability at multiple alarm fires. For more information on the PSM pump used in Boston, or, to determine what Darley pump will best suit your FD contact Jason Darley, North American Sales Manager at [email protected] or by cell at 715-456-9390.
