THE WORLD NEEDS YOU.More than ever people living in cities are suffering from ‘urban overload’- being constantly bombarded by stimuli, toxins and demands on our attention. This can fuel stress and even lead to a feeling of isolation and disconnection. To thrive and not just survive in the city, it is vital to take some time out every now and again to recharge and reconnect on the inside.

According to World Health Organization levels of stress, anxiety & depression (caused by urban overload) are exploding worldwide, and in the next ten years it’s predicted to be the #2 global health issue and #1 disease burden. There are simply not enough trained integrated health professionals to deal with this growing problem.

Urban OM’s vision is to spread yoga and meditation in all parts of society, including schools, companies, stress rehab programs, hospitals as well as vulnerable and at risk populations. We aim to bring more peace onto the planet by creating a world-class yoga therapy training school blending therapeutic elements of hatha yoga (Urban OM) and meditative therapy (Baravara) into a one unified healing approach: ‘Being with People’.

MODULE 2ANATOMY(4 DAYS)

Anatomical awareness helps improve your practice and teaching by giving you the tools to justify why you teach what you teach. In this module you will gain understanding of the anatomy and biomechanics of the body in movement.

The module begins with general anatomical language, terminology and concepts, moving on learning how specific musculoskeletal anatomy influences our movement. Followed by applied anatomy, learning to see the body as a cohesive and intricate system of interdependencies between tissues and body parts and viscerally witnessing and experiencing anatomy in action in asana practice.

MODULE 3ASANA(5 DAYS)

Instructing yoga might look quite simple, but there is a lot of preparation, planning and awareness behind each class. As a trainee, you will learn effective ‘classroom skills’ including demonstration and mirroring, giving clear verbal instructions and cues, use of voice and intonation, safe and intelligent hands-on adjustments, lesson planning, class sequencing and direction.

This module will break down the most commonly taught yoga postures from the ground up and you will learn experientially how to practice and sequence in a clear and safe way. The sequencing of postures AND instructions become a fun puzzle that, once understood in our own body, provide a creative way to teach all of the families of poses. We start to see that all poses, at their core, are the same, only the relationship to gravity is different.

MODULE 1PHILOSOPHY(3 DAYS)

Looking into the different paths of Yoga - Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga help us deepen holistically into all areas of experience. Introduction into the 8 limbs of Yoga as per the Yoga sutras of Patanjali. Explore Discernment, Dispas-sion and Intense Longing for Liberation as well as Samatvam: equanimity of mind and outlook, the ability to remain forever serene, content, calm and peaceful. Yoga lifestyle and the concepts of dharma and karma.

MODULE 6TEACHING PRACTICUM (4 DAYS)

Dig deeper into the practice of vinyasa krama, chanting and strong flow sequencing as well as the science of the chakras. Refine your teaching practice and apply the knowledge, skills and understanding you have developed throughout the course. Revisit and repeat what you have learned, go deeper in the art of hands-on assisting, sequencing and explore the chakra system.

MODULE 4RESIDENTIAL RETREAT INTENSIVE(7 NIGHTS)

A deeply transformative residential week of being together. Get grounded in a daily practice of asana, pranayama, meditation. Enjoy vegetarian food and Karma yoga in ashram-type setting. Explore teaching methodology and learn practical teaching skills in an integrated and safe way. Deepen your understand-ing of yoga’s philosophical roots via further studies of Patanjali Yoga Sutras. Cultivate your authentic voice by practicing the art of kirtan and mantra meditation.

MODULE 5PRANAYAMA & RELAXATION(4 DAYS)

Learn the anatomy and physiology of breath, and the stress- and relaxation response on the physical and subtle levels. Practice and learn how to teach restorative yoga, pranayama and Yoga Nidra and other guided relaxation techniques. We will go deeper into understanding the the koshas, layers of existence.

Learn to assess imbalances and dysfunction in movement patterns and offer guidance for resolution through verbal cues, hands-on assists and demonstration. By learning to “read” bodies you can learn to identify where and how to most effec-tively support with easy-to-understand language and simple touch cues.

BEING TOGETHERBEING TOGETHER is a method of creating safe space to merge body and mind and to explore the magic of letting go into ‘something more’.

Active and contemplative meditative practices inspired by the contemporary and ancient esoteric wisdom of Osho, Tantra and Zen help participants to transcend the fixation with individual self and cultivate a deeper sense of inner connectedness. Key texts are the vedas which teaches oneness: isvara pranidhana.

BEING REALBEING REAL enables development of a sense of self to nourish the connection to truth that can cut through the illusion, dream and deception of the mind. Self-inquiry - honest introspection - is an ancient practice found in every spiritual tradition.

We underpin our approach with humanistic and transpersonal psychology. Being authentic is one of the most important practices we can learn in this life. Inspired by Sutras of Patanjali and Osho meditative therapy.

BEING IN THE BODYBEING IN THE BODY is an antidote to cure the modern phenomena of ‘disembodiment’ caused by urban overload. We emphasize cultivating sensitivity of both the physical as well as the subtle body by training stress reduction and interoceptive awareness. Evidence-based yogic practices applying the therapeutic qualities of postures, breathing and relaxation practices allow the bodymind to strengthen & heal.

These practices are inspired mainly from the Krishnamacharya yoga lineage with elements of Tantric and Kundalini Yoga. Inspired and under-pinned by Hatha yoga pradipika and the mod-ern evidence based practices of interoceptive awareness.

MENTOR SYSTEM: You will have a personal mentor throughout the training. A shoulder to lean on, a guiding hand to lead you towards clarity when needed. The mentors who are all experienced yoga teachers are present throughout the training and provide an essential link between the modules. During the training you will have regular individual mentor meetings plus there will be support from others within your mentoring groups.

STUDY TIME & ASSESSMENTAssessment is on-going throughout the course, which means that you are being observed how you take on board the teachings that have been shared and how your new embod-ied understanding is reflected in your yoga practice, your life and your teaching. We employ different types of assessment methods - diad sharing, observations, reading, assignments, teaching practice, demonstration as well as giving/receiving feedback in pairs and groups.

CERTIFICATIONAll students are required to participate in all aspects and classes of the course and complete all assigned pre-course reading and assignments as well as all homework given during thecourse.

WHAT KIND OF YOGA IS THIS TRAINING?

This is hatha yoga teacher training where the asana and pranayama is coming mainly from the Krishnamacharya lineage and philosophy mainly from Swami Dayananda’s commentary on the vedas. Our faculty are highly skilled trainers with roots in Ashtanga, Iyengar and Viniyoga.

100% attendance is required to pass this course. If you begin a training course, and cannot finish for whatever reason (we understand that things hap-pen) we will not be able to refund your tuition or accommodation fees, however, we will allow you to transfer onto the next training course. In this case

you would need to pay a 1000 SEK administration fee and any new accommodation costs.

HOW CAN I PREPARE MYSELF FOR THE COURSE BEFORE IT STARTS? HOW MUCH BACKGROUND READING DO I HAVE TO DO?

Maintain a daily yoga practice - you will receive a membership to practice at Urban OM the moment you sign up. You’ll receive a reading list before the course begins and we recommend you spend your spare time immersed in yoga books.

DO I RECEIVE A TRAINING MANUAL?

A manual is included with the training. Resources are also online. WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL?

If you cancel more than 30 days before the start of the course then you will receive a refund for course fees you’ve paid less the nonrefundable deposit and less 1000 SEK administration fee. Transfer of deposit to another training, for exceptional reasons, will be

I chose Urban OM’s YTT because of the deep and wide approach of yoga that the center provides. An invitation not only to become a certified teaching yoga, but also for a shared journey of self-transformation. Indeed, what a transformation-al experience it has been!

A huge incentive for me when doing this course was that I was hoping to be more confident and feel motivated about my self-practice and that is something that the course definitely provided.

I am 55 years old and work as an art curator. When I found out about the training at Urban OM, I was attracted by it being taught in English and by a prominent international faculty. Also, the layout and scheduling of the training fitted very well with my life in general. The training has anchored me in my yoga practice, in my body and in my mind. It has changed how I perceive myself, how I relate to people and to the world at large. In other words, it’s been a truly empowering experience and now I see creative expression and unlimited potential in everyone and everything.

I am 40 years old and live together with my husband and our 8 year old daughter. I work as Relationship Manager in one of the biggest nordic banks, Nordea. This course gave me so much, actually much more than I even could imagine!!!I got to know what yoga really means, and how to apply it to my busy everyday life with managing my job, kid and family as well as my friends. I learned how to take care of myself in a spiritual way and to find my source. I got more confident in my own voice but I also learned how to lead a yoga class from basic to flow in different ways. I got to know so many beautiful “yogi-friends” from the group which evolved together with me and who gave me support beyond my imagination on this journey.

44 years old. Yogini. Suburbia Mum of three kids. Immigrant from Iceland. Globalist. Feminist. Wannabe-Artist. I’m Director of the International department of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation and chair several boards and committees, so I face leadership challenges every day. Enrolling in the Urban OM yoga teacher training program was a way for me to deepen my yoga practice. Little did I know that this would be the best leadership training ever: Leading yourself and your own development!

I can truly say, that the YTT-year is the most valuable gift I have ever given to myself. It has taken me on a beautiful journey to my true essence and brought out the whole real me

ULRIKA AUNES

My name is Ulrika Aunes and I have spent 46 years on this planet. I am a (heart)-core Humanitarian by profession that loves to travel; have visited, worked and lived in many different countries so my family is not of the traditional one, but extend-ed and spread out over the globe.

The main reason why I choose this training was that this will give me the option to continue to Level 2, The Yoga Therapy Training, but other factors that also played an important role in my decision to enroll was:

1) the course being spread out over time (9 months); allowing for genuine growth in parallel with upholding normal work.

2) the international vibe; all teachings being in English with mixed nationalities of students and teachers adding additional flavor and different perspectives.

3) offering a complete view on yoga; in addition to the western focus on the physical body and the asanas, including also Vedanta philosophy, mantra, chanting, meditation, anatomy as well as a lot of practice.

It has been a challenging, yet very rewarding and truly amazing journey of TRUE transformation, that has given me so much more than I could have ever dreamt of! It has given my life a new meaning.
