Solvang is a popular Danish community and tourist attraction in south-central California United
States.
It is situated near Santa Barbara and nestled in the Santa Ynez Valley at the heart of the wine
country.
Solvang which means “Sunny Valley” was established in 1911
after a group of Danes colonized it and made it a town until it was integrated as a city in 1985.
Because Solvang has been colonized by Danes, it is no
question why most structures like churches and buildings reflect that
of Danish-style architecture.
To date, there are windmills standing in the city and other
Danish statuary like Little Mermaid and other Danish style facades,
thatched roofs, rural houses, half-timber etc.
These unique structures are what make the place so popular among
tourists.
This year 2011, Solvang will be celebrating their 100th
anniversary and this commemorates their centennial
year.
This also includes the Julefest Parade which will be held on
December 3, 2011.
These celebrations are another attraction to tourists.
The location offers more inns, hotels, motels, service stations, and the Andersen’s popular split
pea soup restaurant.
