Sunken Tree Bookshelf:

The open environment on the third floor of the building gave me the opportunity to create a custom design piece involving a tree with it’s base in the middle of the second floor and continuing up through to the sky on the third floor. A pillar serves to provide structural sup-port and houses the tree roots. A water drainage system is enclosed within the pillar to drain excess water down into the sewer and a debris guard prevents excess mate-rial from clogging the drain. A bookcase surrounds the pillar on all sides to hide the drainage system and pro-vide storage for printed media. Surrounding the tree is a skylight on the second floor providing ample natural light to the reading room below.

Concept: To repurpose an old school and church structure as housing for the artist community and provide large studio and gallery spaces to enhance the artistic and communal experience in Columbus, IN. The school building serves as apart-ment housing so that artists from around the world can come and participate. The church houses the studio spaces on the upper floors to promote privacy and the ground floor includes the gallery, modeled after the exterior of the First Christian Church, as well as a large dining area and cafe.

Tools: Revit, Photoshop

Concept: Repurposing an existing structure in the Columbus, IN downtown area for use as a co-working office environment. Branded as “FLOW” the building embodies the idea of fluidity in character with that of a typhoon. Each of the three floors represents a certain aspect of the process of water, wind, and energy as they form a spiral of motion and activity.

Project: (C)olumn Bloomington

Location: Bloomington, IN

Tools: Rhinoceros 4.0, Illustrator

Description: Project involving heavy use of Illustrator to create a large scale sheet of metal that will be cut in the shape of connected letters which formulate words representing the community of Bloomington, Indiana.
