Daniel 11:40-45

Though the understanding of Daniel 11:40-45 as first taught by Pippenger is believed by this

author to be an unsealing of Daniel at a “time of the end”, it is also understood that some human

misunderstandings have been applied, just as the current writings of these articles are acknowledged to

have some human misunderstandings. Students of prophecy are just that. They are students. They are

not prophets in the sense of prophets in the Bible and Mrs. White. Although Joel reveals that God’s

faithful servants will prophesy when they receive the outpouring of the latter rain (Joel 2:28), that time

is not now. We are to study prophecy, but God’s hand will cover some things until the time that He

removes His hand entirely. Even so, God will not lead honest, sincere students of the Bible into gross

error, but will reveal those things which are salvational for that time.

Although the sequence of Daniel 11:40-45 in “The Time of the End” magazine is not

controverted, this author now views some understandings of these verses differently than that

espoused in the magazine. This does not take away from the belief that the teaching of verse 40 by

Pippenger is foundational to the current understanding of Daniel 11, and that the teaching of his

understanding served to wake up many Seventh-day Adventists and to encourage them to study the

Scriptures for themselves. At the time of Pippenger’s understanding of Daniel 11:40-45, God had not

unsealed the rest of Daniel 11, for it wasn’t necessary to be unsealed for that time. God unsealed the

events of that time, and as time progressed, He unsealed the current events for this time. With the

“time of the end” of 2016 having arrived, it is believed that God unsealed the rest of Daniel 11 so that

the present truth of Daniel 11:40-45 could be understood in a fuller context. It is certain that God will

continue to unseal more understandings of Daniel as time progresses, and that human

misunderstandings will be corrected.

The explanation of Daniel 11:40-45 that will be presented in this article is based upon this

author’s understanding of verses 1-39 and the sequence of events it portrays. It is also based upon the

desire to rely upon Scriptural and Spirit of Prophecy evidence alone.

Verse 40 - And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. Daniel 11:40 is a summary of Daniel 11:1-30. One of the primary subjects in chapter 11 is the

battles between the king of the north and the king of the south, who represent the United States’

president and Russia’s president. The events of verse 40 occur prior to the enforcement of the Sunday

law. It describes events which lead up to the loss of Russia’s position as the king of the south. This one

verse includes several “times of the end” and summarizes the history from 1798 to Russia’s destruction.

Mrs. White’s statement below on the “time of the end” explains this verse concisely.

The time of the end is crowded with successive scenes in process of fulfillment, all working to

bring about that great day when Christ shall be revealed in the clouds of heaven with power and

great glory (16LtMs. Ms 17, 1901).

Verse 40 is most certainly “crowded with successive scenes in process of fulfillment”. It

describes the battles between the United States and Russia in a cyclical fashion, such that the verse

repeats until all the battles have been summarized and ends when Russia is destroyed. There are three

cycles of the “time of the end” in verse 40. The first cycle begins at 1798 and ends at the events

surrounding 1989. This is the foundational understanding that unlocks the rest of chapter 11 and will

not be explained here as it has been sufficiently explained in “The Time of the End” magazine. The next

two cycles are understood through the present truth history of verses 1-30 as written in these articles.

In the current article, verse 40 will be explained beginning with the “time of the end” event of Russia’s

first attack on the United States’ democratic election of 2016 and 2020, then end at the destruction of

Russia by the United States.

40a: Russia’s first attack on the United States (2016/2020) 40b: Limited attack on Russia by the 46th president

40a - And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him:

Mrs. White states that we are to know when to locate the messages of the “time of the end”.

In this our day, as in Christ's day, there will be a misreading and misinterpreting of the Scriptures. If the Jews had studied the Scriptures with earnest, prayerful, humble hearts, their searching would have been rewarded with a true knowledge of the time, and not only the time, but also the manner, of Christ's first appearing …

Many are doing the same thing today, in 1897, because they have not had experience in the testing message comprehended in the first, second, and third angels’ messages. There are those who are searching the Scriptures for proof that these messages are still in the future. They gather together the truthfulness of the messages, but they fail to give them their proper place in prophetic history. Therefore such are in danger of misleading the people in regard to locating the messages. They do not see and understand the time of the end, or when to locate the messages … They know not the signs of Christ's coming, or of the end of the world (1SAT 289, 290).

Daniel 12 states that God unseals His messages at the “time of the end”.

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Daniel 12:4

And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Daniel 12:9

God unseals the understanding of Daniel at the “time of the end”, and when He does so, we are

to understand when to locate the “time of the end”, for this provides an awareness of the time that

we’re living in and the nearness of Christ’s coming. With the understanding in place that the first “king

of the south” in Daniel 11 is Russia, the clue is given in verse 40 to know when the “time of the end” is

located for present truth. It is when Russia attacks the United States: “And at the time of the end shall

the king of the south push at him.” So that God’s people are not confused about when this event

occurs, He unsealed the understanding of Daniel 11:2 to identify that the “fourth” president of that

verse is the 45th president. Soon after Trump was first elected, God opened the understanding of verse

6 to reveal that Russia attacked the United States by helping Trump win a fraudulent election in 2016.

In the unsealing of Daniel, God did not provide an understanding of this book to only one

individual. He used various students of prophecy to understand different aspects of Daniel 11. It was

these different understandings that led to this author’s current understanding of verse 6 as the present

truth “time of the end”. This verse reveals that Russia attacked the United States’ democratic

presidential election in 2016 by suborning Trump with money and working underhandedly to gain him a

fraudulent victory. By using a plural term that represents a doubling of the same event (“years”), verse

6 reveals that Russia will do this again in 2020. These two events in 2016 and 2020 comprise the “time

of the end” of Daniel 11:40a for present truth.

Summary of verse 6: And in the end of years (In the “times of the end”, doubling of the “time of the end”, in which Russia attacks the United States by undermining the country’s election process in 2016 and 2020 and Trump becomes an illegitimate president both times) they shall join themselves together (Trump and Putin will make a secret alliance); for the king's daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement (Putin will suborn Trump with money and both will conspire to illegitimately place Trump in office in 2016 and 2020, with Trump gaining more wealth and power, and Russia gaining political advantage over the United States) 40b - and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind,

This portion of verse 40 describes another “time of the end” event when the United States

under the leadership of the 46th president retaliates and attacks Russia in a fierce and forceful way for

interfering in the election to help Trump fraudulently gain his position as president. Verse 10c is the first

verse in chapter 11 that provides information about the 46th president’s attack on Russia.

Summary of Verse 10 - … then shall he return (the 46th president will seek the papacy’s assistance and form a secret alliance), and be stirred up (to retaliate against Russia’s interference in the United States’ democratic elections), even to his fortress (and attack entities or powers that will hurt Russia and set it back, but won’t necessarily destroy it).

Thereafter, verses 13 and 14 reveal that both the attacks on Russia will use wealth and military

power, as well as cunningly instigate countries vulnerable to Russia’s control to rebel against it.

Summary of verse 13 - For the king of the north (The 46th president) shall return (will seek the papacy’s aid and form a secret alliance just as Reagan did in 1989), and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former (and will gather resources more powerful than 1989), and shall certainly come (and will use stealth, underhanded and cunning methods to attack Russia)

after certain years (at the times of the end when the gathering of resources and attacks on Russia are repeated twice, implying that the 46th president seeks the papacy’s aid and forms a secret alliance with it twice) with a great army and with much riches (by boosting its wealth and military power after forming a secret alliance with the papacy, suggesting that these resources are in direct connection to the papacy).

Summary of verse 14 - And in those times (In the two periods when the United States increases economic and military power and attacks Russia) there shall many stand up against the king of the south (the countries vulnerable to or controlled by Russia will be supported by the United States in alliance with the papacy and be incited to rebel against Russia; first, to restrain Russia’s power, then second, to destroy it completely) …

Daniel 11:40b elaborates upon these verses that describe the United States’ attacks on Russia

and describes the manner of the attacks. The first attack on Russia will be a limited attack that doesn’t

remove Russia as a contending force.

with chariots,

The “Time of the End” magazine explains that “chariots and horsemen” represent the United

States’ military. Strong defines “chariots” as:

H7393, rekeb, reh'-keb; from H7392; a vehicle; by implication, a team; by extension, cavalry; by

analogy a rider, i.e. the upper millstone:—chariot, (upper) millstone, multitude (from the

margin), wagon.

In ancient times, chariots were part of the military, and this word can certainly represent the

United States’ military. But it can also represent another aspect. The root word for “chariots” is

“despatch” (American spelling is “dispatch”).

H7392, râkab, raw-kab'; a primitive root; to ride (on an animal or in a vehicle); causatively, to

place upon (for riding or generally), to despatch:—bring (on (horse-) back), carry, get (oneself)

up, on (horse-) back, put, (cause to, make to) ride (in a chariot, on, -r), set.

“Dispatch” means to transmit or convey a message with speed (Merriam-Webster). So, in this

sense, “chariots” can represent the transmission of information, or the use of an information campaign

to accomplish the United States’ goals in disrupting Russia’s power over countries that are vulnerable to

its control. Just as Russia used/is using various forms of media to sow negativity against Trump’s

opponents in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, the 46th president will do the same when he

comes into office and retaliates against Russia. A media campaign was used against the Soviet Union in

Reagan’s era, and the “chariots” may represent the use of this same method by the 46th president in

alliance with the papacy to sow discord and uprisings against Russia.

and with horsemen,

Strong defines “horsemen” as similar to “chariots”.

H6571, pârâsh, paw-rawsh'; from H6567; (compare H5483) a steed (as stretched out to a vehicle, not single nor for mounting ); also (by implication) a driver (in a chariot), i.e. (collectively) cavalry:—horseman.

Again, horsemen were used anciently in battle, and can be understood to represent the United

States’ military. Just as the military powers were built up in Reagan’s era, the 46th president will also

build up the country’s military forces after he comes into power. This agrees with verse 13 that states

that after the United States receives financial aid from the papacy, it will build up a “great army” to

attack Russia. This suggests that the United States will use more force than it did in 1989 against

countries vulnerable to Russia’s control to dissociate them from Russia’s power.

and with many ships;

Ships are also used in battle, but this word can also represent the economy, as ships were used

anciently for trade and commerce (“ships of Tarshish”; 2 Chronicles 9:21, Ezekiel 27:25). Verse 13 states

that the 46th president will attack Russia not only with a “great army”, but also with “much riches”.

Reagan also used this same tactic in fighting against Soviet Union’s communism. Not only was the

military built up powerfully, severe economic sanctions were instituted against Russia and its

supporters. This suggests that the 46th president will engage in the same tactics when he comes into

power and retaliates against Russia. Media campaigns, military power, and economic sanctions were

used by Reagan in its cold warfare against the Soviet Union, and verse 40b shows that the 46th president

will use the same methods in his retaliation against Russia.

and he shall enter into the countries,

Just as Russia’s territories were stealthily “entered into” during Reagan’s era, so the 46th

president will also stealthily “enter into” and create civil uprisings against Russia in its neighboring

countries.

and shall overflow and pass over.

After Trump is removed from office and the 46th president takes his place, Daniel 11 reveals that

the United States will experience significant upheavals and calamities. There will be civil uprisings

against the 46th president (verse 21a), and he will forcefully quell these uprisings against his position

(verse 10b). Then there will be a significant attack on the United States by terrorist Islamic groups (verse

30a). These events will upset the country’s economy to such extent that the 46th president will seek the

aid of the papacy, who will provide financial support (verse 24), and form a secret alliance with it (verse

10c). Through this secret alliance, they will scheme to attack and destroy Russia (verse 27a). Russia’s

interference in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections and Russia’s financial support and manipulation

of Trump during his time in office will bring about such division within the United States and with its

allies (verse 2b) that by the time that the 46th president takes over the presidency, there will be

significant anger and desire for vengeance against Russia. This is indicated by the phrase, “overflow and

pass over”. The retaliation on Russia that is described in verse 40b will be so severe that Russia will be

overwhelmed by its suddenness and force. Strong defines “overflow” as:

H7857, hâṭaph, shaw-taf'; a primitive root; to gush; by implication, to inundate, cleanse; by analogy, to gallop, conquer:—drown, (over-) flow(-whelm, rinse, run, rush, (throughly) wash (away). “Pass over” is defined as “used figuratively of an army overflowing” (Strong).

The United States under the 46th presidency will attack Russia so severely the first time that it

will limit Russia’s power and ability to encroach upon and overpower neighboring countries. Though the

United States will come against Russia fiercely, Daniel 11:10c reveals that the 46th president will not be

completely successful in destroying Russia at the first attack, because it states that he will only go “to his

fortress”. This attack will hurt Russia and restrain its power for a time but will not completely remove it

as an enemy power.

40a: Russia’s second attack on the United States 40b: Destruction of Russia by the 46th president

40a - And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him:

After Russia’s attack on the United States’ 2016 and 2020 presidential elections (verse 40a), and

after the United States’ limited attack on Russia when the 46th president comes into office (verse 40b),

verse 40 repeats the attack and counterattack again. In the final cycle, verse 40a describes Russia’s

second attack on the United States. This event is described in verses 7-9, 11, and 12. Whereas the first

Russian attack on the presidential elections is conducted by Putin, verse 7 reveals that the second

Russian attack on the United States will be led by the president following him. Then verse 8 reveals that

this new Russian president will come into office prior to the 46th president, suggesting that the new

Russian president will obtain his position while Trump is still in office.

Summary of verse 7: But out of a branch of her roots (The Russian president following Putin) shall one stand up in his estate (who comes into office in a nontraditional way either before or when Putin’s current term ends), which shall come with an army (will use some method of force), and shall enter into (and use deception and stealth to attack) the fortress of the king of the north (within the United States), and shall deal against them (and debilitate the United States), and shall prevail (and seize the United States’ resources and restrict its ability to immediately counterattack):

Summary of verse 8: And shall also carry captives into Egypt their gods (Russia will reinstate its communist form of government), with their princes (rule over satellite countries it had formerly lost), and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold (and control the economy of the countries it invades); and he shall continue more years than the king of the north (the next president of Russia will come into office while Trump is president for his second term, Trump will be removed while this new president of Russia is in office, and the 46th president will obtain the presidency). In this second attack, Russia will be successful in a surprise attack and somehow debilitate the

United States, such that it cannot immediately counterattack or defend vulnerable countries from being

overtaken by Russia.

Summary of verse 11 - And the king of the south (Russia’s new president after Putin) shall be moved with choler (due to his bitterness and extreme anger for having his power restrained by the United States under the 46th president’s attack against it – “to his fortress”), and shall come forth and fight with him (will use stealth and cunning methods to counterattack), even with the king of the north (the United States under the 46th president): and he (the 46th president) shall set forth (will obtain and gather) a great multitude (resources to defend itself, which will include wealth and military power); but the multitude (the United States’ resources to defend itself) shall be given (will be seized or restrained through a surprise, stealth attack) into his hand (by Russia’s power). After the successful second attack against the United States, Russia will overtake its lost satellite

countries (from 1989) and reinstitute its communist form of government.

Summary of verse 9: So the king of the south (The new president of Russia after Putin) shall come into his kingdom (through stealth and underhanded means, will re-establish a dictatorship over previously controlled satellite countries), and shall return into his own land (and will dominate the area of the previous Soviet Union and be a significant contending world power against the United States as it was prior to 1989).

Summary of verse 12 - And when he (When the new Russian president after Putin) hath taken away the multitude (seizes and restrains the United States’ resources and ability to defend itself and other vulnerable countries from being overtaken by Russia), his heart shall be lifted up (he will exalt himself as a dictator over satellite countries once controlled by the Soviet Union); and he shall cast down many ten thousands (and he will control the economy and governance of these satellite countries) … 40b - and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

After Russia’s second attack on the United States, the 46th president will continue to conspire

with the papacy to destroy Russia’s power and eliminate it as a contending force. In this second and

final attack against Russia, the 46th president will utilize the same methods as he did in the first attack. A

media propaganda campaign against Russia and its leaders, another military buildup, and another round

of an economic boost by the papacy will be utilized by the United States government to incite a

tremendous rebellion in the satellite countries against Russia, and along with its military, will destroy

Russia’s ability to maintain control over these countries. This final attack and destruction of Russia are

revealed in several verses in Daniel 11.

Summary of Verse 15 - … and the arms of the south shall not withstand (Russia will be overpowered by the United States’ second attack), neither his chosen people (as well as the previously lost satellite countries taken back by Russia which will again be supported and incited to extreme rebellion against Russia), neither shall there be any strength to withstand (Russia will be destroyed by the previously lost satellite countries it overtook and by the United States’ military).

Summary of Verse 25 - And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army (The papacy will instigate the United States to attack Russia by providing financial aid to boost the United States’ military and economic power, which will constitute the first limited attack); and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army (Russia will counterattack after it makes its own secret alliance with another power or powers, which will debilitate the United States’ ability to defend itself and other vulnerable countries); but he shall not stand (but eventually, Russia will be destroyed by the United States’ second attack): for they shall forecast devices against him (Russia’s destruction will come about due to the papacy’s devising and scheming in collusion with the 46th president).

Summary of Verse 26 - Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat (Russia’s satellite countries taken over after its attack against the United States) shall destroy him (will revolt and rebel against Russia’s leadership and topple the government), and his army (and the United States’ military might) shall overflow (will attack with great force and violence): and many shall fall down slain (and will result in numerous Russian casualties).

Summary of Verse 29 - At the time appointed (The time when the goals of the papacy to destroy Russia and the United States’ Constitution will be accomplished) he shall return (when the 46th president makes a second secret alliance with the papacy), and come toward the south (and attacks Russia); but it shall not be as the former (this second attack will destroy Russia and quickly lead to the Sunday law, unlike 1989), or as the latter (and unlike the limited attack on Russia under the 46th president’s leadership).

Daniel 11:40 describes several events that identify the “time of the end” for several generations

of Adventism. As these “times of the end” transpire, God unseals more knowledge of Daniel as these

events progressively point to the approaching nearness of the Sunday law to be enforced in the United

States. The events surrounding 1989 were prophetically significant for the history of modern

Adventism, and they were a harbinger of more prophetic events to occur just prior to the Sunday law in

the United States. The “time of the end” arrived again for Seventh-day Adventists in 2016, and the

continuation of this same “time of the end” will be fulfilled in 2020 when the 45th president will enter a

fraudulent second term. The fulfillment of the “times of the end” to follow will occur under the

president who will replace Trump, and once all the events of verse 40 are fulfilled, the Sunday law will

be enforced.

Summary of Verse 40 – And at the time of the end (At the time when God unseals prophetic understanding of Daniel) shall the king of the south push at him (Russia will attack the United States – 2016 and 2020 when the 45th president obtains his position fraudulently): and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind (the United States under the 46th president will retaliate and attack Russia fiercely), with chariots (by using media campaigns to incite rebellion against Russia in countries vulnerable to Russia’s encroachment), and with horsemen (and by building up military strength), and with many ships (and placing severe economic sanctions against Russia while boosting the United States’ own economic power); and he shall enter into the countries (the United States will also incite rebellion against Russia in countries vulnerable to Russia’s power), and shall overflow and pass over (and will be successful in disabling Russia’s power, but not in destroying it as a contending force). And at the time of the end (At the time when God unseals prophetic understanding of Daniel) shall the king of the south push at him (Russia will attack the United States again with severe force to disable it from protecting countries vulnerable to its invasion): and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind (the United States will retaliate and fiercely attack Russia a second time), with chariots (by again using media campaigns to incite rebellion against Russia in satellite countries), and with horsemen (and again building up its military power), and with many ships (and again boosting their own economic power, and providing economic support to satellite countries to rebel against Russia); and he shall enter into the countries (the United States will again incite rebellion against Russia in countries under Russia’s power), and shall overflow and pass over (and this time, the United States will be successful in disabling and destroying Russia’s power, removing it entirely as a contending force). 40a – 1798, time of the end for historic Adventism 40b – 1989, time of the end for modern Adventism

Verse 41 - He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

He shall enter also into the glorious land,

This phrase is a repetition of verse 17 and refers to the enforcement of the Sunday law in the

United States.

Summary of Verse 17 - He (The papacy) shall also set his face (will focus its pressure on the United States) to enter (to work with cunning, deceptive methods) with the strength of his whole kingdom (with all its power as a final push to make the United States enact and enforce

the Sunday law) , and upright ones with him (with Protestant America in agreement); thus shall he do (the 46th president will enact and enforce the Sunday law in the United States) …

When the United States legislates and enforces the Sunday law, the papacy’s policies and mode

of operation in honoring its false sabbath will have fully entered the United States’ governing system,

making it an image of the papacy.

and many countries shall be overthrown:

The understanding of this phrase as explained in this article is different than that espoused in

“The Time of the End” magazine, which states that the word, “overthrown”, represents those who

succumb to the false papal sabbath and fall under the control of the papacy. The reason for an

understanding different from “The Time of the End” magazine is based upon the interpretation of verse

33. The Hebrew word, “overthrown”, in verse 41 is the same word as “fall” in verse 33, which refers to

the persecution of faithful Seventh-day Adventists during the Sunday law in the United States.

Summary of Verse 33 - And they that understand among the people (Wise Seventh-day Adventists) shall instruct many (will be faithful witnesses for God by their character and by teaching others of the Sabbath truth): yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil (wise Seventh-day Adventists in the United States will be persecuted for standing firm for God’s laws), many days (persecution will persist and increase during the two periods of the Sunday law under the United States’ control, then under the United Nations’ control).

With the understanding that the sequences in Daniel 11 repeat and enlarge upon previous

themes, it is understood that the use of the same Hebrew word in verses 33 and 41 refer to the same

topic. Rather than “overthrown” referring to being under the control of the Sunday law and following

the papacy’s false sabbath, it seems to suggest being persecuted for NOT following the dictates of the

Sunday law and standing firm for God’s Sabbath. This understanding is reinforced by a following phrase

in verse 41, “chief of the children of Ammon” who “escape out of his hand”, which will be explained in a

later section.

The word, “countries”, is a supplied word in this phrase, so it will not be explained as pertinent

to the understanding of this verse.

but these shall escape out of his hand,

Again, this phrase is understood differently than that explained in “The Time of the End”

magazine, which states that this phrase refers to those who escape the delusions of the papacy and

stand firm for truth. This phrase is a continuation of the previous phrase, which is understood by this

author to mean that those who are “overthrown” are faithful Seventh-day Adventists who stand firm for

truth during the Sunday law in the United States and are therefore persecuted (“fall”, verse 33).

Because of this understanding, those groups who “escape” are not those who stand with faithful

Seventh-day Adventists during the Sunday law in the United States, but are those who escape

persecution because they either support the false papal sabbath or are ignorant of the true seventh-day

Sabbath.

The power that controls the Sunday law in the United States will be the 46th president and the

United States government. In the context of verses 17 and 41, the papacy is presented as the power

that cunningly influences the United States to enact and enforce the Sunday law. When the once

democratic country follows the policies of the papacy, it will be the papal influence that will direct the

government’s actions. When the papacy was on the seat of religious and political power prior to 1798, it

controlled military powers of other countries to persecute anyone and any institution that did not

conform to its dictates. When the United States enforces the Sunday law, the papacy will do the same.

The “hand” that cunningly influences the enactment and enforcement of the Sunday law will be the

papacy, and it will be that power that will influence the persecution of God’s faithful people, but the

actual persecution will be performed by the “hand” of the United States. If a group escapes the “hand”

(power) that “overthrows” (persecutes), it means that that group escapes persecution because they are

obeying the mandates of the Sunday law.

even Edom,

Edom is another name for Esau, Jacob’s twin brother. He was to be the heir of Isaac’s birthright,

but for self-gratification, gave it up. Edom was in the direct line of God’s people but was rejected by

God because He rejected God’s blessing.

Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. Hebrews 12:16–17.

Esau lost the promised blessing of God because he lived selfishly and covetously and did not

have true remorse for his sins. He regretted having lost the birthright but did not repent of his sinful

life. Just like the line of Esau, Seventh-day Adventists are in the line of the chosen people of God. They

have the promise of receiving God’s blessing of salvation if they are obedient and faithful to His laws.

But like Esau, there will be unfaithful Seventh-day Adventists who won’t have true remorse and will not

come to full repentance for their sins. They will live selfishly yet claim God’s blessing without fulfilling

the conditions to receive that blessing. They are the foolish Seventh-day Adventists who are described

in verse 32.

Edom represents unfaithful Seventh-day Adventists who will disobey God’s laws during the

Sunday law and follow the dictates of the United States government to gain worldly security. By doing

this, they will “escape out of the hand” of persecution, and will attack their fellow brethren, the wise

Seventh-day Adventists who will be faithful to the seventh-day Sabbath during the Sunday law in the

United States.

and Moab,

Moab was the son of Lot through an incestuous relationship with his elder daughter. They were

relatives of Abraham but were not in the direct line of his covenant with God. The descendants of Moab

became part of the heathen nations surrounding Canaan and treated the Israelites with disdain and

reproach when they requested to travel through their land. Moab’s close connection to Abraham and

his birth through an unsanctified relationship suggest a representation of a group who have a history of

a close connection to God’s truth but become apostates to that truth.

Protestants were once in the line of God’s covenant but apostatized when they rejected light

regarding the falsehoods of the papal sabbath and the papal doctrine of immortality of the soul. They

also rejected the prophetic Millerite understanding and the doctrine of the investigative judgment.

Since that time, Protestantism has apostatized even further by rejecting its Protestant roots and

reaching out to the papacy for reconciliation. Once Protestant churches appeal to the United States

government to enact laws to support their dogmas, they will have reached the fulness of their apostasy.

Just like Moab and his descendants, fallen Protestant churches chose adulterated forms of worship

rather than the pure worship of God’s people. Apostate Protestantism is the product of intermingling

with the apostate church. Just like Moab, they are the offspring of an unsanctified relationship.

The “image to the beast” represents that form of apostate Protestantism which will be developed when the Protestant churches shall seek the aid of the civil power for the enforcement of their dogmas (GC 445).

During the Sunday law, apostate Protestantism will join with the government in persecuting

faithful Seventh-day Adventists. Because they will encourage and support the papacy’s false day of

worship, they will also “escape out of the hand” of persecution.

and the chief of the children of Ammon.

Ammon was the son of Lot through an incestuous relationship with his younger daughter. Just

like Moab, Ammon represents those who are not in the direct line of God’s covenant. Yet, this group is

differentiated from the other two groups in that they are categorized as “children” and are not just

referred to by the name of their forefather. This represents those who are even more removed from

the line of God’s covenant with His people, suggesting that they represent all those outside of

Adventism, people from every group, church, and walk of life. More especially, this group is described

as the “chief of the children”, which means “firstfruit”.

H7225, rêʼshîyth, ray-sheeth'; from the same as H7218; the first, in place, time, order or rank (specifically, a firstfruit):—beginning, chief(-est), first(-fruits, part, time), principal thing (Strong).

The “chief of the children of Ammon” represents those outside of Adventism who will be part of

God’s great harvest. They represent the eleventh-hour workers who will join the ranks of truth when

the papacy is on the seat of world power. They will not be harvested during the time of the Sunday law

in the United States, for that period will not be their test. The period of the Sunday law in United States

will be the test for Seventh-day Adventists in this country.

The Lord has shown me clearly that the image of the beast will be formed before probation closes; for it is to be the great test for the people of God, by which their eternal destiny will be decided (2SM 80).

Verse 41 refers to the Sunday law in the United States, and if the “chief of the children of

Ammon escape the hand” at that time, then it cannot mean that they “escape” the power of the papal

sabbath, for they do not understand the true seventh-day Sabbath at that time. They are not held

accountable for this truth until they have been instructed in the truth and are tested after they have had

opportunity to learn the truth. Verse 33 states that they will be instructed by faithful Seventh-day

Adventists during the time of the Sunday law in the United States.

Summary of Verse 33 - And they that understand among the people (Wise Seventh-day Adventists) shall instruct many (will be faithful witnesses for God by their character and by teaching others of the Sabbath truth): yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil (wise Seventh-day Adventists in the United States will be persecuted for standing firm for God’s laws), many days (persecution will persist and increase during the two periods of the Sunday law under the United States’ control, then under the United Nations’ control).

At the time of the Sunday law in the United States, although those in the world may witness the

example of faithful Seventh-day Adventists and learn from them, they will generally follow the dictates

of the government. For this reason, they will “escape out of the hand” of persecution because they will

not be standing for the true Sabbath. They do not come in to join the truth until after faithful Seventh-

day Adventists are sealed and when they give the loud cry of the third angel to come out of Babylon.

This occurs when probation for Seventh-day Adventists is closed (at the time when the United States

and then the United Nations lose their controlling power over the Sunday law) and the papacy is on the

seat of world power.

But I speak not my own words when I say that God's Spirit will pass by those who have had their day of test and opportunity, but who have not distinguished the voice of God or appreciated the movings of His Spirit. Then thousands in the eleventh hour will see and acknowledge the truth. “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed” (Amos 9:13). These conversions to truth will be made with a rapidity that will surprise the church, and God's name alone will be glorified—Letter 43, 1890 (2SM 16).

… Then I saw another mighty angel commissioned to descend to the earth, to unite his voice with the third angel, and give power and force to his message. Great power and glory were imparted to the angel, and as he descended, the earth was lightened with his glory … The work of this angel comes in at the right time to join in the last great work of the third angel's message as it swells to a loud cry. And the people of God are thus prepared to stand in the hour of temptation, which they are soon to meet. I saw a great light resting upon them, and they united to fearlessly proclaim the third angel's message …

The light that was shed upon the waiting ones penetrated everywhere, and those in the churches who had any light, who had not heard and rejected the three messages, obeyed the call and left the fallen churches. Many had come to years of accountability since these messages had been given, and the light shone upon them, and they were privileged to choose life or death. Some chose life and took their stand with those who were looking for their Lord and keeping all His commandments. The third message was to do its work; all were to be tested upon it, and the precious ones were to be called out from the religious bodies. A compelling power moved the honest, while the manifestation of the power of God brought a fear and restraint upon their unbelieving relatives and friends so that they dared not, neither had they the power to, hinder those who felt the work of the Spirit of God upon them … God was in the work, and every saint, fearless of consequences, followed the convictions of his own conscience and united with those who were keeping all the commandments of God; and with power they sounded abroad the third message … (EW 277, 278)

When those that ‘believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness’ (2 Thessa-lonians 2:12), shall be left to receive strong delusion and to believe a lie, then the light of truth will shine upon all whose hearts are open to receive it, and all the children of the Lord

that remain in Babylon will heed the call: ‘Come out of her, my people.’ Revelation 18:4 (GC 390).

As already noted in the article dealing with verses 15-19, once the papacy successfully

influences the United States to enforce the Sunday law (“enter into the glorious land”), the papacy will

no longer have to “enter into” or influence any other regions, for the rest of the world will follow the

influence of the United States, and the Sunday law will then be enforced throughout the world. This is

the reason that verse 41 refers to the United Nations controlling the Sunday law as “stretch forth its

hand”, rather than “enter into”. The papacy does not have to “enter into” any other government, for

“entering” into the United States will be enough to influence the rest of the world, and when the United

Nations controls the Sunday law, the papacy will be a part of that confederacy.

The phrase, “stretch forth his hand”, is a reiteration of “turn his face” used in verse 18.

Summary of Verse 18 - After this (After the United States’ economy is ruined) shall he (the papacy) turn his face (will direct its pressure to continue the enforcement of the Sunday law) unto the isles (on the United Nations), and shall take many (and the United Nations will increase its force and pressure upon the world to honor the false Sunday sabbath and persecute those who don’t obey) …

and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

This phrase describes the United Nations’ control over the Sunday law after the United States

loses power and repeats the phrase of verse 18, which states, “and shall take many”. The influence of

the papacy will be upon the United Nations, for it will be a part of it.

The word, “escape”, in this phrase does not refer to the escape from persecution as it does in

verse 41. Rather, it is speaking of the United Nations not “escaping” the papacy’s influence and readily

continuing the enforcement of the Sunday law throughout the world. The persecution of faithful

Seventh-day Adventists around the world will continue under the directorship of the United Nations. At

that time, Seventh-day Adventists around the world will be tested on their faithfulness to God’s law.

Summary of Verse 42 - He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries (After the United States loses its power, the papacy’s influence will be over the United Nations, for it will be a part of it): and the land of Egypt shall not escape (the papacy will be an influential part of the United Nations that will control the Sunday law and continue persecution of faithful Seventh-day Adventists throughout the world).

Verse 43 - But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt:

Verse 43 describes the transition of power from the United Nations to the papacy. At that

point, the papacy will finally regain its complete religiopolitical control over the world. This phrase

identifies the reason that the papacy will obtain this position. It is due to the same reason that the

United States will lose its controlling power - its economic downfall. The United Nations will experience

this same fate by the same cause. The power that will bring down the United States’ economy will also

bring down the United Nations’ ability to sustain itself economically. This is the reason that verse 43

describes the papacy as controlling the world’s finances.

The transition of power from the United Nations to the papacy is also described in verses 18 and

39.

Summary of Verse 18 - … but a prince for his own behalf (the United Nations which supports the papacy’s agenda) shall cause the reproach offered by him (to enforce the Sunday law throughout the world) to cease (will lose its power); without his own reproach (when the United Nations cannot continue to rule the world and cannot be the leading enforcer of the Sunday law) he shall cause it (they will transfer their power and control of the Sunday law) to turn upon him (to the papacy).

Summary of Verse 39 - … and he shall cause them to rule over many (the 46th president with the leaders of the United Nations will give its power to the papacy and make it the religious ruler of the entire world), and shall divide the land for gain (because the United Nations will also suffer an economic downfall and will need financial support from the papacy).

The United Nations will turn to the papacy for financial sustenance, and when that occurs, the

United Nations will have no choice but to give its own power to the papacy. This theme of suborning

other powers through money is weaved throughout the narrative of Daniel 11. First, the 45th president

is suborned by Russia through financial assistance. Then the 46th president is suborned by the papacy

through the same. And finally, the United Nations is also financially beholden to the papacy and

transfers its power to it. Daniel 11 refers to this process as “flatteries” and shows that political powers

are not the only entities to be suborned through money. These earthly powers use money to also

control their subjects, as is described in the next phrase.

and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

The “Time of the End” magazine explains this phrase as the poor and rich countries following

along with the papacy’s dictates. But this scenario was already described in verse 42 when the papacy

“stretches forth his hand” and the world doesn’t escape its influence. Since verses 40-45 is a sequence

in chronological order, it is not likely that a same event within the sequence will be repeated. There is

another explanation for this phrase that doesn’t repeat the same event as verse 42.

The narrative of Daniel 11 shows that all those who follow the papacy’s dictates will be

controlled through the temptation and power of money. Verse 21 states that the 46th president, prior

to the enforcement of the Sunday law, will appeal to the people’s covetousness to make them feel

materially secure.

Summary of Verse 21 - … but he (but the 46th president) shall come in (use stealth and underhanded methods of bringing money from the papacy) peaceably (to give a false sense of security and prosperity to the country, possibly through boosting of economy by preparing to attack Russia), and obtain (and seize or control) the kingdom (the country and its citizens) by flatteries (by distributing money to the people, bribing them to follow his dictates; plural form implies that the 46th president “returns” to the papacy twice, receives money twice, attacks Russia twice, and distributes wealth twice, ending in a dictatorship). Seventh-day Adventists who harbor covetousness in their lives and fall for the monetary

enticements of the government prior to the enforcement of the Sunday law will be overtaken by the

same bribery at the Sunday law and honor the false sabbath over the true Sabbath of God.

This narrative of unfaithful Seventh-day Adventists who fall prey to the false sabbath,

particularly through the enticement of money, provides another explanation for the terms, “Libyans”

and “Ethiopians”. Verse 43 states that when the papacy controls the finances of the world, these two

groups of people will follow the papacy. The narrative of Daniel 11 shows that those who follow the

ruling powers do so because of the “flatteries”, or the bribery of monetary security (as well as to avoid

persecution). When the papacy is on the seat of world power, probation for Seventh-day Adventists will

be closed, and unfaithful Seventh-day Adventists who honor the false papal sabbath over the true

Sabbath of the Lord will be left empty of the Holy Spirit and be in spiritual darkness. The definition of

Libyans is "empty-hearted", and the definition of Ethiopians is “their blackness" (Strong). Foolish

Seventh-day Adventists who reject the truth when the papacy is on the seat of world power are

represented by the “Libyans” because they reject the Holy Spirit’s work in their lives, and thus, will not

receive the outpouring of the latter rain (“empty-hearted”, destitute of the Holy Spirit). They are also

represented as the “Ethiopians” because they reject truth and are left to their own strong delusions

(“their blackness”, in spiritual darkness).

And then shall that Wicked be revealed (When the papacy is on the seat of world power), whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish (unfaithful Seventh-day Adventists will be lost for eternity); because they received not the love of the truth (because they reject the seventh-day Sabbath), that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion (and be in spiritual darkness – “Ethiopians, their blackness”), that they should believe a lie (because they honor the false papal sabbath): That they all might be damned (they deny the Holy Spirit and don’t receive the power of the latter rain - “Libyans, empty-hearted”), who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12

Verse 44 - But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.

When the papacy is on the throne of world power, faithful Seventh-day Adventists who are

purified will receive the blessings of the latter rain, which is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Today you are to have your vessel purified that it may be ready for the heavenly dew, ready for the showers of the latter rain; for the latter rain will come, and the blessing of God will fill every soul that is purified from every defilement. It is our work today to yield our souls to Christ, that we may be fitted for the time of refreshing from the presence of the Lord—fitted for the baptism of the Holy Spirit.—The Review and Herald, March 22, 1892 (1SM 190).

Mrs. White states that the latter rain is the loud cry of the third angel.

I heard those clothed with the armor speak forth the truth with great power. It had effect. Many had been bound; some wives by their husbands, and some children by their parents. The honest who had been prevented from hearing the truth now eagerly laid hold upon it. All fear of their relatives was gone, and the truth alone was exalted to them. They had been hungering and thirsting for truth; it was dearer and more precious than life. I asked what had made this great change. An angel answered, “It is the latter rain, the refreshing from the presence of the Lord, the loud cry of the third angel” (EW 271).

Mrs. White explains the loud cry as “another angel” of Revelation 18 that empowers the

message of the third angel.

The prophecies in the eighteenth of Revelation will soon be fulfilled. During the proclamation of the third angel's message, “another angel” is to “come down from heaven, having great power” and the earth is to be “lightened with His glory.” The Spirit of the Lord will so graciously and universally bless consecrated human instrumentalities, that men, women, and children will open their lips in praise and testimony, filling the earth with the knowledge of God and with His unsurpassed glory, as the waters cover the sea.

Those who have held the beginning of their confidence firm unto the end, will be wide-awake during the time that the third angel's message is proclaimed with great power. During the loud cry, the church, aided by the providential interpositions of her exalted Lord, will diffuse the knowledge of salvation so abundantly that light shall be communicated to every city and town. The earth will be filled with the knowledge of salvation. So abundantly will the renewing Spirit of God have crowned with success the intensely active agencies, that the light of present truth will be seen flashing everywhere.

The saving knowledge of God will accomplish its purifying work on the mind and heart of every believer. The Word declares: “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put My spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes” [Ezekiel 36:25-27]. This is the descent of the Holy Spirit, sent from God to do its office-work. The house of Israel is to be imbued with the Holy Spirit, and baptized with the grace of salvation. Their state of lethargy will no longer exist. All who have not received the light will be convicted; all who will turn unto the Lord with full purpose of heart will confess their sins....

The proclamation of the gospel is the only means by which God can employ human beings as His instrumentalities for the salvation of souls. As men, women, and children proclaim the gospel, the Lord will open the eyes of the blind to see His statutes, and will write upon the hearts of the truly penitent His law. The animating Spirit of God, working through human agencies, leads the believers to be as one mind, one soul, unitedly loving God and keeping His commandments—preparing here below for translation (2MR 21, 22).

The faithful and sealed Seventh-day Adventists will give the loud cry to the world after the

United Nations’ economy is destroyed by the second woe, and financial, political, and religious powers

are given to the papacy. The loud cry will be given by the 144,000.

I fully believe that within a very short time the third angel’s message is to go with a loud cry, when the 144,000 will be sealed. Then will come the bitter persecution; then the plagues, The Lord help us to do his commandments, that we may be prepared to stand in the time of trouble, and finally to stand on Mount Zion with the Lamb. J. B. BEZZO. Franciscoville, Mich., Nov. 22nd, 1853 (ARSH December 13, 1853). The loud cry is the message of the third angel empowered by the message of “another angel” of

Revelation 18. The message of the third angel is:

And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Revelation 14:9-11

The message of Revelation 18 is: And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double. How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. Revelation 18:1-8

The “tidings” that reach the attention of the papacy are messages of doom and judgment for it

and for its followers. The messages clearly announce God’s wrath upon the papacy and those who

accept the fallen church’s image. They will both be destroyed, but the papacy will receive “double” the

torment and punishment that it inflicts upon God’s faithful. These messages would certainly terrify

anyone receiving it, and it does so to the papacy. The word, “troubled”, means:

H926, bâhal, baw-hal'; a primitive root; to tremble inwardly (or palpitate), i.e. (figuratively) be (causative, make) (suddenly) alarmed or agitated; by implication to hasten anxiously:—be (make) affrighted (afraid, amazed, dismayed, rash), (be, get, make) haste(-n, -y, -ily), (give) speedy(-ily), thrust out, trouble, vex (Strong).

The loud cry of the third angel is given by the 144,000, but the message originates from God.

Verse 44 states that the “tidings” are “out of the east” and “out of the north”. The Bible states that

God’s glory comes from the east, and that Jesus will come to earth a second time from the east.

And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory. Ezekiel 43:2

Soon there appears in the east a small black cloud, about half the size of a man's hand. It is the cloud which surrounds the Saviour and which seems in the distance to be shrouded in darkness. The people of God know this to be the sign of the Son of man. In solemn silence they gaze upon it as it draws nearer the earth, becoming lighter and more glorious, until it is a great white cloud, its base a glory like consuming fire, and above it the rainbow of the covenant. Jesus rides forth as a mighty conqueror (GC 640). God’s city is in the north.

Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. Psalms 48:2

The loud cry message to the entire world when the papacy is on the seat of world power is a

death knell message to the papacy for assuming the prerogative of God and attempting to usurp the

position of God. It is a direct message from God, who is the true King of the North.

therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.

Though deeply disturbed and affrighted at the bold message of the 144,000, the papacy will not

back down from its rebellion against God’s truth and will react with Satanic anger against the

messengers and those who stand with them in truth. The persecution upon the 144,000 will be fierce,

and eleventh-hour workers who join them in truth will be martyred for their faithfulness.

At the commencement of the time of trouble [before probation closed], we were filled with the Holy Ghost as we went forth and proclaimed the Sabbath more fully.... And at this time God's chosen all saw clearly that we had the truth, and they came out and endured the persecution with us. I saw the sword, famine, pestilence, and great confusion in the land. And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. Revelation 17:5, 6

Summary of Verse 44 - But tidings (The loud cry message of the third angel) out of the east and out of the north (given by the 144,000 and directed by God) shall trouble him (will frighten and agitate the papacy): therefore he shall go forth with great fury (therefore, the papacy will react with Satanic anger) to destroy, and utterly to make away many (to fiercely persecute the 144,000 and martyr the eleventh-hour workers).

Verse 45 - And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy

mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain;

“The Time of the End” magazine uses different Bible translations (but not the King James

Version) to describe this phrase as stating, “And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the

seas and the glorious holy mountain”. In its explanation, the word, “in”, is replaced with “and” to

suggest that this phrase means that the papacy tries to block the loud cry message of the 144,000 from

reaching the world. But why should a different version of the Bible be used for one verse and another

version for the others? There should be consistency in the method of interpretation, and this verse

should be interpreted using the King James Version just as with all the other verses.

The “tabernacles of his palace” is the papacy’s seat of religious and political government when it

is in control of the world and places itself in God’s stead. This phrase states that the papacy’s seat of

power resides “between the seas”. Land masses separate the oceans. In other words, they are

“between the seas”, and represent the countries of the world. When the papacy “plants the tabernacles

of his palace between the seas”, the papacy places itself in the place of God throughout the entire

world. Not only this, the papacy “plants” itself as a religious and political dictator god “in the glorious

holy mountain”, which is where God’s temple is located. This phrase does not mean that the papacy

literally does this. Rather, it means that the papacy claims that it is to be worshipped as God as though

it is in God’s temple. Verse 45 repeats the same thought of 2 Thessalonians 2.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed (when the papacy takes control over the countries of the world which are “between the seas”), the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth (“he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace”) in the temple of God (“in the glorious holy mountain”), shewing himself that he is God. 2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4

Satan presents his delusions to the world through the papacy, for that institution is the

representation of his own self-exaltation and desire to be in the place of God.

Evil originated with Lucifer, who rebelled against the government of God. Before his fall he was a covering cherub, distinguished by his excellence. God made him good and beautiful, as near as possible like himself. Of him it is written, “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” But self-exaltation entered his heart. Inspiration records the charge against him: “Thine heart wast lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness.” “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend unto heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit” (RH September 24, 1901).

When the papacy is on the seat of world power, it will exalt itself as God (“plant the tabernacles

of his palace”), and will claim to the world (“between the seas”) that it is in the place of God to be

worshipped as God in His temple (“in the glorious holy mountain”).

yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

Just like all the earthly powers before it that exalt themselves and fall, the papacy will also fall.

It will experience the greatest destruction for exalting itself most supremely.

Summary of Verse 14 - … also the robbers of thy people (the papacy) shall exalt themselves (will place itself as the world power as though in the place of God) to establish the vision (to confirm the truth of the progression of world powers in the “chazown” prophecy which began in 2016 and ends when the papacy is on the seat of world power); but they shall fall (but the papacy will be destroyed).

Summary of Verse 19 - Then he (The papacy) shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land (will have complete control over the world to fully carry out all its evil schemes and force the world to worship it): but he (but the papacy) shall stumble and fall (will also experience economic collapse), and not be found (and will be physically destroyed).

And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. Revelation 16:10, 11
