Daniel 1, 2

• Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego were among the princes that the King of Babylon, Nebuchadnessar, had brought from Jerusalem to work in his court.

• The king gave the food from his table to be given to these princes to eat, but this food was not made according to God’s standards.

• Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies nor with the wine which the king drank.

• Daniel and his friends asked if they could eat only the vegetables. Daniel and his friends were then found to be healthier and handsomer than those who ate the king’s food.

• God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom, and to Daniel he gave understanding of visions and dreams.

• The king interviewed them and among them all, none was found like these four young men, so they served before the king. In all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better.

What does the Bible say:

• Who did the king take to Babylon with him? • What special food could Daniel eat? • Why did Daniel not want the kings’ food and wine? • What did the king think about Daniel when he talked with him? • What work did the king give Daniel?

What does it mean: • Does God honor those who honor Him?

What does it mean to me: • Which is better – to please your friends or to please God? • Has someone asked you to do something that would not please God? • Ask your parents to help you know what to do that would be pleasing to God.
