Hello from the editorial team.Introducing Tina, Corry and Margaret

We would like to thank Jodie for her fantastic informative and detailed Newsletter, we have big shoes to fill, so we are starting with a team of editors.

Welcome new committee members and congratulations to Micheal Cogley for the role of Club Captain.

Thank you for the super bakers and super cleaner upers at the AGM. “what I like about this club is there is always someone to jump in and help out” I heard someone say.

Please be gentle with the new team of editors and send us your photos, stories, thoughts and flyers for the DVHCC.

Yours Corry, Margaret and Tina

I would like to thank all the members who turned up at our A.G.M. Les Lucas one of our life members chaired the meeting, it is great to see him getting back into the flow of life again now he has got his health back on track, a lot of people avoid these meetings in fear of getting roped into a job, we only needed two changes to take place on Committee that being a new club captain thanks Michael Cogley for filling this post, and a new editor we did not have the position filled at the end of the meeting, but over supper the editors position was taken on by Tina Strafford, Corry MacDonald, and assisted by Margaret Snyders if required, thanks girls for jumping in to help fill this position, if you have anything of interest to be put into print please help the girls out with interesting items like my first club car, how I got my license, trying to back a trailer, this should create a lot of memories from a lot of members.

The sub committees stayed the same, thanks everyone for putting up your hands againfor yet another year, Sally Carson has volunteered to be the club historian, and Ben MacDonald was appointed as a second administrator to our web site to assist Kevin.

Cost of club membership to remain the same for 2021-2022 year after the treasurer felt that we should be ok for funds at this stage as long as we have a good swap.

Heather and myself are off overseas for a couple of months to enjoy the sunshine of the Northern Hemisphere hopefully, but we will be able to stay in tune via electronic media so please don’t give Gary to much of a hard time in my absence.Ian and Heather.

Saturday 22 June saw in excess of 100 DVHCC members attend this years presentation dinner at Keysbrough.

The night was a huge success with many entering into the spirit of the night, dressed to impress in their 1974 style clothes. There were all sorts of fashions from a pregnant lady to long haired louts, hippies and there was also a Hare Krishna who couldn’t be missed in his orange sarong and dark mustache. However dressed, everyone enjoyed the music of the King Pins and danced the night away. Congratulations to those members who won the Club trophies on the night and also Congratulations to Ern Hopgood who was awarded a life Membership.

DVHCC INC.Run Report

Sunday 7th of July 2019Pakenham Race Day by Jessica Lang

On Sunday, my family and a few of my family friends woke up to a day with my dad’s ancient car and the car club.

I was really tired that morning and woke pretty late which meant I had to get ready quickly. I even forgot to eat my breakfast. We left not soon after and I had to sit in the tiny middle seat, and it was freezing cold. I was incredibly glad we had stopped at McDonald’s, so I had an opportunity to eat.

When we arrived at Tynong inside, I noticed that the Austin Healey Club had their tables set up all fancy with centre pieces and very formal place mats etc. Then I look over at our area and see how simple the tables looked.

There was a long line up of our club cars that had parked all in a row. Later we ate lunch which was pretty good, and we admired all the horses in the stables. Dad gave me $10 to choose a horse and hopefully win. At first, I went from $5 to $7 which was great, but my next horse let me down. On the drive home, we only just missed the rain, luckily. Overall, I would rate the day a 3/5.

Dad’s Postsript – Cars, hot tips and a great day

We put on a great car display and greatly outnumbered the other car clubs combined. Outside of our club cars there were a few Rolls Royce’s and Austin Healey’s and not many other marques.

Although not many, what was there were very impressive – I loved the boattail Rolls with beautiful shinny woodwork and two-tone Healey’s are always great.

I took two neighbours who can no longer drive. They had a great day and I was glad I could share it with them. Other club members also took time to make them feel welcome as well which was great. We also met a close friend (Bruce) who had a horse running on the day.

I had three hot tips. One from Bruce (his horse). The second from Bruce’s horse trainer and the third from the Race Club Manager that organised our visit. The first tip, well Bruce’s horse is still running, the second and third tips missed out by inches, so no cigar. I do not follow the horses and never bet on them so hopefully the day was a lesson to the girls about gambling and losing money. One great aspect of the day is the ability to go to the stables where you can get up close to the horses and their handlers. The handlers are usually very friendly, will discuss their horses with you and allow the kids to pat.

The Buick is running well. With me and 5 passengers on board it cruises effortlessly and is very comfortable. Overall, I would rate the day 4.5 out of 5.
