Our fundraising purpose
While raising funds, we will also raise the profile of the Monash Children’s Hospital, and celebrate the amazing work the doctors, nurses and administration staff provide Victorian children.
The money raised will be used to:
• Give our children access to the latest medical equipment for faster diagnosis and a positive, fun time during their treatment
• Give our children the very best through a paediatric surgical skills centre to train brilliant paediatric surgeons
• Give our children access to life saving new medicines for their treatment
• Give our children operating suites with the latest technology for
treatment and training• Give our children education and communication facilities to help them
stay connected with family and school during treatment

Victoria’s new, purpose built children’s hospital
The need for a purpose-built children’s hospital has never been greater – which is why we are proud to be building a brand new, five-storey children’s hospital.
The Victorian Government’s investment in the new Monash Children’s Hospital is recognition of the significance of the services needed, as the community around Monash Health experienceone of Melbourne’s highest levels of population growth.
Located within the Monash Medical Centre precinct in Clayton, this state of the art 230-bed children’s hospital will provide world class care for Victoria’s sick children and their families.
Construction of this new children’s hospital commenced in July 2014 and it is due to open in 2017.

MonashHealthFoundation,andallofthoseattendingwillcontinuetoensuretheMonashChildren’s
HospitalhasthenecessaryfundingtodeliveraworldclasshealthcarefacilityforthechildrenofVictoria.
WewerepersonallytouchedbyMCHwithoursonAshton,whowasbornextremelyprematureat24weeks.
Ashtonspentthefirst6monthsofhislifeintheMonashNICU(NeonatalIntensiveCareUnit).Dueto
complicationshehad18hospitaladmissionsoverthefollowing2years,spendingacombined30+weeks
backinhospital.IncludingtheMonashPICU(PaediatricIntensiveCareUnit)afteralmostlosinghimon
severaloccasions.
22monthsafterAshtonwasbornwehadour5thchild.Madeleinewasbornprematureat29weeks,andwe
spentthenext3monthsinNICU.Withthreeotherchildrenathome,andseveraladmissionsforAshton
duringthesameperiod,thiswaswithoutdoubtthehardestperiodinourlives.
Spendingdayafterdayatyourchild'sbedside,watchingthemstruggletosurvive,youexperiencethe
emotionalrollercoasterofamazinghighsanddevastatinglows.Youcometotherealisationthatlifeisa
paradox,bothamazinglystrongandincrediblyfragileatthesametime.
Theseexperiencesmadeusrealisehowlittlecontrolwehaveovertheillnessesand/orinjuriesourchildren
suffer.However,whatwecancontrolisthequalityoffacilities,technology,training&medicineweprovide
toassistinthetreatmentofourchildren.
WeareveryexcitedaboutthefutureofMonashChildren’sHospital,andwhatitwillprovideVictorian
families.ThenewMCHwillprovideapurposebuiltfacilitytomeetthespecialneedsofchildrenandtheir
families.Itwillcreateachildfriendlyenvironmentwheretheycancontinuetheirintellectualandphysical
development,whilereceivingthebesttreatmentavailabletoaidintheirrecovery.

We are creating a welcoming, caring environment where parents can sleepalongside their ill child in comfort.
Special family-and-child-friendly features will also help sick children feel comfortedand reassured.
Our undertaking is to ensure that every patient at Monash Children’s Hospital, andtheir family, feel safe and wholly supported while they are in our care.
