Dance BTEC Level 3 Single Diploma Course Leader: Craig Horton Email: [email protected] Fact File An intensive practical and academic dance course which will also help prepare you for progression to higher education at University, an Apprenticeship or onto a career in the Dance industry. It is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will learn by undertaking vocationally active projects, some of which will culminate in performances to the public to echo the work undertaken in professional dance companies. Annual dance showcase performance in Central Studio each year. Course Summary You will gain knowledge and understanding of the multi-faceted world of Dance. You will gain a range of performance skills and will focus on the essential techniques and disciplines needed for a career involved within the dance profession. You will gain insight into the different career paths that someone interested in dance may wish to follow; a thorough understanding of the demands of performance, highly honed analytical and creative skills and an ability to communicate effectively with others. Progression skills and opportunities The BTEC Extended Certificate in Dance has the equivalence of one A Level, and it is possible for you to progress further into Higher Education. Universities, Dance Colleges and other centres of Higher Education welcome it as an entrance qualification for a wide range of courses. You will study a broad range of dance performance skills and techniques that explore a range of genres and practitioners, gaining valuable skills such as: creative development: development of dance skills management: planning and overseeing projects analytical skills: self-analysis and reflection

How is the course assessed? The overall qualification grading for the Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Performing Arts (Dance) is P to D*. This is in line with the rest of the BTEC National suite. There are opportunities during the teaching and learning phase to give learners practice in developing:

Employability skills:• cognitive and problem-solving skills: using critical thinking, approaching non-routine problems applying expert and creative solutions, using systems and technology • interpersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation • intrapersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development.

Transferable skills that universities value include: • the ability to learn independently • the ability to research actively and methodically • being able to give presentations and being active group members.

What topics will I be studying?5 units over two years:

• Group Performance Workshop (externally assessed) Task set and marked by Pearson and completed under supervised conditions. • Learners will be provided with the set task booklet in January in order to prepare for the development and completion of the group performance and their digital process log. • The final evidence will be completed in 5 hours under supervised conditions in a number of sessions arranged by the centre within the period timetabled by Pearson.
