2. In this series, Sumeet Nagdev will teach you some basicpositions of modern dance. Modern dance started as arebellion against classical ballet. Step 1: Place your hips on the floor completely andstretch your spine straight up. With your knees bent andsoles placed completely on the floor, relax your arms onyour knees.Weekly Childrens Newspaper www.robinage.com 4. Step 2: Brush the pointed right foot spirally left, makingit go around your body. Let the right arm flow andstretch while you try and look at your knee. Use the lefthand to support yourself and take your hips off the floor.This is called spiralling in.Weekly Childrens Newspaper www.robinage.com 5. Step 3: Come back to the start position but this timeplace your palms next to your hips. Look up and relax.Weekly Childrens Newspaper www.robinage.com 6. Step 4: Repeat Step 2 but this time towards the oppositeside.Weekly Childrens Newspaper www.robinage.com 7. Step 5: Come back to the start position with your palmsplaced next to your hips as you did in Step 3.Weekly Childrens Newspaper www.robinage.com 8. Step 6: Rond de jambe (literally, round of leg) the rightfoot, that is move the right foot in a circular motion anti-clockwise and release your hips off the floor facing yourleft side.Weekly Childrens Newspaper www.robinage.com 9. Step 7: Bring the left knee off the floor and try and reachforward with your left hand.Weekly Childrens Newspaper www.robinage.com 10. Step 8: Release the left foot and bend the knee, turningout from your hips. This position is called an attitude.Here, you can use your arms creatively, stretching andshaping them as you like as shown in the picture.Weekly Childrens Newspaper www.robinage.com 11. Step 9: Release the left foot behind and pivot facing theother side with your left arm stretching in front andlunging with your left knee.Weekly Childrens Newspaper www.robinage.com 12. Step 10: Lift your right foot up, bending the right kneeand touching the pointed toe to the bottom of the leftknee. Your right arm should release upwards and yourleft arm should be in front. As you do this, fall forward toadd movement.Weekly Childrens Newspaper www.robinage.com 13. Step 11: Release the body forward with your right footand left arm in front.
