All about how and why rhinos are endangered By Dana

Page 2: Dana's Rhino Project

Species There are five different types of rhinos such as: Indian, Javan, Sumatran, Black and White. All rhinos are critically endangered because poachers kill them for their horns. Rhinos need their horns for protecting their young and themselves. People sell rhino horns for lots of money.

Habitat Rhinos live in three different places. The Javan and Sumatran rhinos are from south-east Asia, the Black and White rhinos are from Africa and the Indian rhino lives in India.

Appearance All species of rhinos are herbivores, as they eat foods such as grass, trees and bushes. A Black Rhino has a hooked lip that works like a hand to help grab the leaves off trees. In contrast the white rhinos have a squared lip.

Statistics There are only approximately 24 000 rhinoceroses left in the world. The reason for that is because they are being poached for their horns.
