D&L Trail Trail Map & Guide Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor Welcome to the D&L Trail! Use this guide to explore the 71-mile Anthracite Region of the D&L Trail as it travels from the City of Wilkes-Barre through the Pocono Mountains to Jim Thorpe and Lehigh Gap. The D&L Trail is a multi-use path that follows the routes of three historic transportation systems: the Lehigh Navigation Canal, the Delaware Canal, and the Lehigh Valley Railroad. Stretching about 165 miles through eastern Pennsylvania from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol, the D&L Trail is the spine of the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, one of 49 National Heritage Areas in the United States. The Anthracite Region is the most forested of the three D&L regions with hundreds of natural areas to explore. In this region alone, users can access 38,000 acres of State Park, 128,000 acres of State Game Lands, 25,000 acres of State Forest, and countless lakes and streams. Also along the D&L Trail are many quaint towns where trail users can stop to explore history, culture, food, and more. From the riverfront of Wilkes-Barre and the cascading waterfalls of Seven Tubs ǰ ę   and vibrant downtown of Jim Thorpe, the Anthracite Region tells the story of America’s industrial past in a beautiful Ĵǯ For more adventure and history, pick up our other two maps and explore the Lehigh Valley and Delaware Canal regions of the D&L Trail. The town is located just ě ŞŖǰ ¢ ǰ Nescopeck State Park, and the Lehigh River’s Francis E. Walter Dam. The downtown, a National Historic District, is home to two national historic landmarks: The Asa Packer Mansion and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, both a short walk from the D&L Trail. Take a break from recreation to tour the town, eat at one of the many restaurants, ride the historic train, or stay the night at a Victorian B&B. A dedicated bicycle and pedestrian bridge will lead from the train station to historic Lehigh Canal Lock 1 and beyond to Weissport, Lehighton, and the Lehigh Valley.
