Moving The Finish LineI’m not a runner, but I’ve been in my share of races, both real and imagined. Whether you’re coming to the end of a big project or rushing across town to an appointment, it’s satisfying to get to the end of one of these “races.” On the other hand, have you ever approached the “finish line” only to realize that the contest isn’t actually over? Something has changed, and you need to keep running.

It can seem frustrating, but I’m here to tell you that in business, it’s something you need to embrace. Some companies work hard to satisfy their customers, then survey them to get their opinions. This information is valuable, but don’t think for a minute that a positive result is the “finish line.” A customer who is satisfied today will raise his expectations tomorrow. It’s human nature.

In the business “race,” your competition will pass you by if you stop to rest at the finish line. After all, they have their own finish lines,

and many of them are farther down the road. How do you keep up? Move your finish line.

Go ahead and measure customer satisfaction. DSG even
