DAILY EXCELSIOR, JAMMU WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16, 2016 (PAGE 9) 10 houses, 26 transformers damaged during rains in Jammu Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Mar 15: At least ten houses including a three storey building were fully dam- aged in Poonch, Rajouri and Mahore area of Reasi while two dozen houses partially in these districts whereas, at least 26 electric transformers of the PDD went out of order due to heavy rains during last three days. Most of the roads including National Highway, have also been restored. Official sources from Poonch said that due to massive rain last evening, a three storey building of one Mohd Iqbal, son of Mohd Hussain at village Malikan in Mandi collapsed. It was raining heavily and the fam- ily had already vacated the house due to partial damage to it two days back. It was heavy rain last evening and the entire building collapsed. Five more houses were fully damaged at village Arai in Mandi tehsil of Poonch last evening. No loss of human life has been reported in these inci- dents. The damaged houses belonged to Bhag Hussain and brother Mohd Akbar, sons of Raj Wali; Saifuddin, son of Abdul Aziz, Bader Din, son of Abdul Rahim and Mohd Sadiq, son of Faqar Din- all residents of Arai. Most of these houses were Kucha. At least a dozen houses have been partially damaged in this area. Tehsildar and police team from Mandi visited the affected area and also provided some immediate relief to the victims, an official spokesman said. Reports from Rajouri said that two houses were fully dam- aged and at least half a dozen partially in Thannamandi and Kotranka area due to heavy rains. The house of one Shamshad Ahmed, son of Mohd Maqbool, resident of Upper Shahdara near Thannamandi and Mohd Shafi, son of Abdul Rehman of Ward No. 6 Thannmandi were fully dam- aged due to heavy rain on Monday. Three cattle shed were also damaged in the district in Kotranka and Thannamandi. As reported by SDM Mahore in district Reasi, Subhash Dogra two houses were fully damaged and at least half a dozen partially in Mahore Sub Division. He disclosed that houses of Mohd Iqbal, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin, resident of Sugga in Chasana and Manzoor Ahmed, son of Gh Qadir, resident of Shuksar ( Chasana) were reported to have been fully damaged. Besides this, at least half a dozen hous- es have been damaged in Chasana, Chhajru, Bagga and Gulabgarh area. Further reports are being received from the concerned Naib Tehsildars. No loss of human life has been reported. Chief Engineer, PDD (M&RE) Ashwani Gupta said that at least 26 power trans- formers are reported to have been damaged due to rains dur- ing last three days. He said that power supply which was also snapped in many areas has been restored to majority of the areas by this evening, while the restoration work in some rural areas was still in progress. He claimed in Jammu city most of the damaged transformers have been replaced. Hundreds of goldsmiths from J&K to participate in rally tomorrow Jewellers’ protest over excise duty decision continues for 14th consecutive day Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Mar 15: As Finance Minister Arun Jaitley rejected demands for rollback of one per cent excise duty on non- silver jewellery during his speech in Lok Sabha, the jew- ellers continued their rage against the decision for the 14th consecutive day here. Jewellers across the State have been protesting against the proposed one per cent excise duty on the production and man- ufacturing of gold jewellery. All the jewellers, Karigars, Swarnkars and all other associ- ated people sat on dharna at Jain Bazar, Jammu. While sitting on the Dharna, many people expressed their rage against the Union Government and its deci- sion. Later, the protesters took out a rally from Jain Bazaar, which passed through Chowk Chabutra, Pacca Danga, Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi, City Chowk, Kanak Mandi, Lakhdata Bazar and culiminated at Jain Bazar. Addressing the rally at dif- ferent places, Raman Suri, Chairman, Sarafa Association and Swarnkar Sangh Joint Action Committee, Jammu Province, lambasted the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for not speaking in favour of jewellers in Lok Sabha yester- day. He asked the BJP leaders, MLAs and MPs of Jammu, who had favoured the jewellers strike in 2012 on the same issue, that if they could support a cause four years before, then why they are not supporting the same cause this time. "We are not against BJP, Congress or any other political party but we are against the anti- people policies made by them", Suri said and urged Jaitley to immediately roll back the excise duty so that the respect, which the jewellers have for him will remain intact. "PM Narendra Modi supported the cause of jewellers in 2012, but this time he is silent, which reflects his callous attitude towards them", he added. We will protest till our voice is heard and action is taken in our favour", Babber warned. Seminar on Future of Libraries: Trends, Issues & Challenges begins at JU Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Mar 15: Two-day National Seminar on Future of Libraries: Trends, Issues and Challenges (NASOFOL-2016), organized by Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu and sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, began here today. Professor P B Mangla, Ex- Dean and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi; Dr H K Kaul, Director, DELNET; Professor R Bandyopadhyay, Faculty, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Calcutta, Kolkatta were among the important digni- taries who spoke over the theme of the event and enriched the occasion with their views and experience. Speaking on the occasion, Prof R D Sharma, Vice- Chancellor, JU, stressed on the sustainability of the libraries and called upon the Library Professionals to focus on vari- ous utilities especially the serv- ices utility and communication utility so that the best type of services and good books are made available to the users. Nat Manch presents ‘Ek Soch’ Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Mar 15: Nat Manch under its ongoing Tuesday series presented a Dogri play "Ek Soch" written and directed by Tarun Sharma. The play was based on the issues related to women including eve teas- ing, sexual harass- ment and molesta- tion. The crime against women prevails every- where. If a woman goes to mall, Bus Stand, railway station, theatre, colleges or school, she has to face these issues. Many believe that it is the clothing of women that elicits such uncouth behav- iour, but even conservatively dressed Muslim women who wear burqa over their clothes leaving only the eyes and feet visible are also subjected to it. The story started with a group of boys standing on the road side, who were making fun of girls. A girl came there and a boy started making fun of her and passed vulgar comment. The girl started crying and ran away from the spot and narrated the ordeal to her father, who made a plan to teach the boys a lesson, but stopped as his own son was part of the group. The actors who performed in the play were Tarun Sharma, Rishav Salgotra, Priya Kashyap, Ishan Mansotra, Aman Sharma, Abhishek Mehra, Mohit Sharma, Priyanshu Gupta and Abhimanyu. Vigilance produces challan against public servant Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Mar 15: Vigilance Organization Kashmir today presented a chargesheet (Challan) against then Junior Assistant in PHE Division Handwara, who is accused of accumulating huge assets, dis- proportionate to his known source of income. Challan in case FIR No. 56/2007 u/s 5(1) r/w 5(2) of J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, was produced against the Public Servant Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, in Anti- Corruption court, Baramulla, after obtaining proper sanction for launching prosecution, from the competent authority. A verification by the Vigilance Organization Kashmir into the disproportion- ate assets revealed that Mohammad Maqbool Bhat has accumulated huge assets, mov- able and immovable, through corrupt means which are dis- proportionate to his known source of income. The investigation of the case was concluded as proved against the accused for launch- ing prosecution.
