IntroductionThe System Chart references componentsevaluated and listed by Underwriters’ Laboratoriesfor compatibility with the Control/Communicator.These components meet the basic systemrequirements for the applicable standard.
The System Wiring Diagram, Issue A shows therelationship between the panel and the accessorycomponents referred to in the System Chart.
Optional Compatible EquipmentYou can use UL listed components that do notrequire evaluation for electrical compatibility in manyapplications when installed according to themanufacturer’s instructions.
Burglary ApplicationsYou can use UL listed burglary alarm sensors thatdo not require evaluation for electrical compatibilityin burglary applications. In some cases you mustuse a UL listed Radionics interface module inconjunction with the sensors. Consult the individualcomponent specification and installation documentsto determine suitability.
Test weekly: UL Standard 1023 requires aweekly test for residential burglary applications.
Bank Safe and Vault ApplicationsYou must use the UL listed Model 5110 Bell andModel 4001-42 External Line Balancer (both madeby Rothenbuhler) for the bell and balanced linemodule in bank safe and vault applications.Modifications must be made to the RadionicsD8108A enclosure to meet UL standard 681. Seethe Radionics Technogram D7212/D9112 ULCertificated Bank Safe and Vault Applications (73-07302-000).
Test bell at arming: UL Standard 365 requires abell test at arming for bank safe and vaultapplications.
Fire ApplicationsYou can use UL listed fire initiating devices notrequiring electrical compatibility evaluation in anyapplication. For example: 4-wire smoke detectors,heat detectors, water flow switches, and manualpull stations are suitable fire initiating devices.Consult the individual component specificationand installation documents to determinesuitability.
Two-wire smoke detectors only connect to thepanel through the D125B Powered Loop Interfaceso that an earth ground will not cause an alarm.Two-wire detectors must be evaluated forelectrical compatibility, and must be UL listed foruse with the panel. See the RadionicsTechnogram Smoke Detectors Compatible withthe D9000/D7000 (33284), or you may contactthe detector manufacturer.
Other initiating devices, including four-wire smokedetectors connect to the panel through the D129Dual Class A Initiation Circuit Module, the D125BPowered Loop Interface, or D8127 or D9127POPITs. When using 4-wire smoke detectors,install a suitable power supervision unit accordingto the manufacturer’s instructions. Use the D130Relay Module, D8129 OctoRelay, or terminal 8,Switched Aux Power to provide reset capability.See the Off-Board Relays section of this manualfor details on the installation of the D8129.
For battery calculations, refer to Current RatingChart for Standby Battery Calculations, StandbyBattery Requirements, and Standby BatteryCalculation for NFPA 72 Fire Alarm Applications.
Test weekly: Radionics recommends youperform a Fire Test weekly. The AC power isautomatically tested as is the battery per UL 864.
EnclosuresRadionics offers three optional enclosures for thecontrol/communicator.
• The D8103 enclosure is suitable forresidential fire and/or burglary installationsand commercial burglary applications that donot require attack resistance or approval byFactory Mutual or NYC-MEA. (See theSystem Chart for acceptable applications.)
• The D8108A is attack resistant. It is intendedprimarily for UL commercial burglar alarmand mercantile safe and vault applicationsrequiring a local bell. You can use theD8108A in any burglar or fire alarmapplication where the 5591 or D8109enclosure is suitable. The D8108A, withsome modification, can be used for bank safeand vault applications (see the RadionicsTechnogram D7212/D9112 UL CertificatedBank Safe and Vault Applications, RPN: 73-07302-000). UL lists the D8108A for allcommercial fire alarm applications. TheD8108A is approved by Factory Mutual,California State Fire Marshal, and the NewYork City Materials and EquipmentAcceptance System.
• The D8109 is normally used for commercialfire alarm applications. UL lists the D8109 forall commercial fire alarm applications. TheD8109 is approved by the California StateFire Marshal, NYC-MEA and FM.
Note : All references to NFPA and relatedrequirements are based upon compliance with the1993 edition of NFPA 72, National Fire AlarmCode. Since installation specifications are nearlyalways based upon a specific edition of astandard which has been legally adopted by theAuthority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), earliereditions of NFPA standards will generally apply.Consult with the appropriate AHJ for confirmation.

Central Station or Local SystemsCentral Station or Local Systems require 24 hoursof standby plus 5 minutes of alarm operation at theend of the 24 hour period. A single battery issometimes adequate for Central Station Systems,but you must install two batteries to meet the basicstandby requirements for a Local Systeminstallation. You must use battery ampere hour (Ah)calculations to verify compliance. The followingformula includes the calculation for 5 minutes ofalarm operation at the end of the 24 hour period, aswell as a 10% contingency factor which allows fordepletion of battery capacity with age.
