D5 Rotary Sootblower

TRANSCRIPT

  • General Description

The Clyde Bergemann Model D5E(Electric) and D5M (Manual) RotarySootblowers offer dependability in boilercleaning and ease in operation. The D5Rotary has been part of the CopesVulcan (Sootblower Division purchasedBy Clyde Bergemann in 1997) productline for many years with thousands ofunits providing excellent serviceworldwide. The D5 Rotary features asimple design concept, which equates tominimal maintenance cost and troublefree operation.

The Clyde Bergemann Model D5 rotarysootblower is designed to cleanconvection surfaces of packaged or fielderected industrial boilers. The blowingelement of this type sootblower remains

in the boiler at all times, supported byelement bearings usually attached to theboiler tubes. Specially designednozzles are located on the element (asrequired) for each specific installation.Saturated or superheated steam, as wellas compressed air, may be used as theblowing medium. The D5 can operate intemperatures up to 1800o F with theproper choice of element material.

To prevent infiltration of corrosivefurnace gases through the element tothe valve assembly, a scavenging aircheck valve is furnished as standardequipment on the D5 rotary sootblower. For pressurized furnaces a purgingairline from a source of higher pressurethan the furnace is connected to thescavenging air valve.

    MODELS D5E & D5M ROTARY SOOTBLOWERS

  • Operation

On the D5E the drive motor rotates theelement, through the bull and piniongearing, in a full 360-degree arc aboutits axial centerline. Rotation is normallyclockwise at 2 rpm. Blowing mediumadmission is controlled through amechanically cam operated valve in thevalve head. Blowing medium is turnedoff when the blowing sweep iscompleted and the cam followerdisengages from the cam. The blowersare designed for either individualoperation or for use in a sequentialsystem.

The blowing sweeps are regulated bypreselected cams mounted on the bullgear. The poppet valve ismechanically held open during theblowing cycle. The valve automaticallycloses after completion of the blowingsweep. After initiation from the startsignal the model D5E RotarySootblower is automatically self-controlled. The proper stop point isdetermined by a limit switch positivelydriven by the bull gear to eliminate thepossibility of phase shifting between theblowing arc and rotary blower stopposition.

The cleaning sweep can be adjusted bysimply removing sections of the opener

cam. The arc can be adjusted from360o through 90o in 30o increments. Also, the travel direction can becounterclockwise if desired. Addition ofsuffix S to the D5E (D5ES) meanssequencing is provided. The blowerscut in, blow, cut out and bring in the nextblower in series. Only the first blowerneed be started.

    Element Removal

The connection between element andhead is a flange not a pipe coupling. This flange is outside the boiler, awayfrom the dirt and corrosive fluids. Thisalso helps to prevent element warpageand binding. The head is quickly andeasily removed from its mounts. First, bolts are removed from two flange sets.Second, the head is lifted away, leavingthe element in its normal position in thefurnace. With the head removed, it is asimple matter to slide the element out, should it need replacing. Theconnecting flange, under normalconditions can be re-used.

  • DVT-FS Sootblower Poppet Valve

The DVT-FS Sootblower poppet valve isa valve designed to regulate the flowand pressure of cleaning medium beingfed to a sootblower. The unit featuresenhanced sealing ability and service lifeby the use of a flat seat with a seatprotection device. Seat damage isminimized by controlling the majority ofthe pressure drop across a downstreamadjustable throttling ring, andadditionally by means of a specialcontour immediately adjacent to the flatseat, which bears the pressure dropduring the initial opening of the valve.

Blowing Pressure Easily Adjusted Drive screw (1) adjusts the stroke of thecam while the hex valve stem cap (2)can be rotated for either a reduction orincrease in blowing pressure. Exactpressure can be determined with use ofoptional gauge permanently mounted onpoppet valve.

Head Construction Standard headsand flanges are fully rated for ANSI

Class 600 WCB. Other materials andclasses are also available.Blowing Arc Readily Changed - Addor remove cam segments (3) on maingear. No need to remove head or cutnew cams.

Element Easily Removed Element isattached by means of a flange. (5)Head is attached to wall sleeve adapterby three jack-studs. (4) Remove thenuts from the jack-studs and lift headout, slide element out for inspectionand/or replacement. No special toolsrequired.

Main & Power Gears Covered Finaldrive pinion is heat treated for maximumservice. Pre-lubricated gear train istotally enclosed impervious to dirt.

    Manual D5M Rotary Sootblower

For those applications where anelectrical drive is not feasible, the D5Mmanual rotary sootblower is available. These units utilize a hand operatedchain wheel drive for rotation. Thefunction of the sootblower is the samewith the exception of the drive method.Because of the 15:1 two step gear trainration, the effort required to operate thisD5M is surprisingly low.

  • General Sootblower SpecificationSample

Rotary Sootblower Structure - The rotarysootblower structure shall be designed in such afashion as to allow ease of maintenance, durability in operation and effective boiler tubecleaning. It is preferred that the structure be amodular design using a cast frame to attachsubassemblies to. As a minimum the structureshall be coated using an organic primer basecoat and an epoxy top coat.

Rotary Sootblower Gearbox Assembly andMotor - The sealed & lubricated gearboxassembly shall be mounted to the main frameand shall have a standard frame flange. Thedrive shall be through a bull and pinion geararrangement. The drive motor shall be at leasta 1/8 HP electric motor with a 1.15 service factorand class B insulation.

Sootblower Poppet Valve & Related Parts -The poppet valve shall be the seat and plugstyle with a cast body using at least a WCB

material. The valve housing shall be made toANSI standards and shall include the companionflange. The valve pressure adjustment shall beaccomplished externally without affecting seatopening. The valve actuator shall be a cam andfollower arrangement. The cam shall beadjustable to vary blower sweep.

Rotary Sootblower Control System - Therotary sootblower shall be electrically operatedusing plant voltage available. There shall be aterminal box available for field wiring. The startand stop function shall be prewired and readyfor field wiring. All wiring and terminals shall belabeled.
