SIXTH GRADE CAMP SILENT AUCTION
In order to make Sixth Grade Camp more affordable for each student, we have decided to do a fundraiser
this year that will not only benefit sixth graders, but the community as well! Everyone loves the Fall Concerts
and during this awesome night, sixth grade would like to host a silent auction! What the sixth grade students
and teachers are asking is for donations of any kind! The Fall Concerts are set to take place on Wednesday,
October 29 and we will accept any donations until that very night. Anyone willing to donate a basket, gift
certificates, or anything else to put on auction please contact any of the sixth grade teachers. And of course
we want you to come and bid!
The silent auction will take place from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., but will be closed during the concerts.
You can update bids between concerts though! Make sure to put this night in your calendars!

SCIENCE DEPARTMENT NEWS
The biology students are studying experimental design. To
explore this topic, students designed an experiment to find out
which environment conditions effect seed germination.
Students have tested multiple variables and have collected
data for the last week. Soon we will process this data and
share it among our classes.
GIRLS BASKETBALL FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS This school year the Markesan Girls Basketball program will be offering girls in
kindergarten through third grade the opportunity to learn the game of basketball. The
sessions are free and will run on Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. The
sessions will occur on the following dates: Nov. 1, Nov. 8, Dec. 6, Jan. 10 and Jan 17.
Sessions will be held in the middle school gym. The sessions will begin to teach
fundamentals, but more importantly will emphasize having fun with the game. Any
questions please contact Coach Laper at 398-4143 or Nicole Heberer at 920-904-0272.
Reminder: Skills sessions for girls in Grades 4-8 begins Oct. 13 at 6:15 p.m.
ELEMENTARY FOOD DRIVE
Markesan Elementary School is hosting their 3rd Annual Food Drive October 13-24.
All donations go to the local food pantry in Markesan. During the two week donation period, the
students graph the collected donations by grade level and each classroom. If you know a student in
the elementary school and would like to assist their class with donations, feel free to send your
donations with a student or you can drop them off at the elementary office. Thank you for your
help to make our 3rd Annual Food Drive a success!
The science department is very excited to begin a new school
year. This year’s physical science currriculum will include
some interesting new project based learning units, as well as
many group and inquiry based learning activities. Currently,
the students are working on techniques to properly
communicate and display data using graphs and presentations.

SCHOOL REPORT CARDS (SCHOOL
ACCOUNTABILITY)
We have received the embargoed school report cards
which replaces the Annual Yearly Progress Report
because of the new school accountability reform in
Wisconsin. As a reminder, the Wisconsin Knowledge
Concepts Examination (WKCE) scores have been
recalculated using National Assessment of Education
Progress (NAEP).
Our district has been divided into four school areas:
Primary (K-3), Intermediate (4-5), Middle School (6-8)
and High School (9-12). The areas looked at were
Student Achievement (reading, math) as compared to
state, Student Growth (reading, math) year-to-year
growth, Closing Gaps (race/ethnicity, economically
disadvantaged students, ELL as compared to
complementary groups) and On-Track and Postsecondary
Readiness (measures milestones predicting
postsecondary success as well as reading, math, ACT, etc.).
HIGH SCHOOL PLAY
Markesan District Schools Drama Department will present a fall play entitled
H a r r y Po t te r a t Tw i l i g h t a full-length comedy by Jonathan Dorf
This crazed mash-up parody
of the Harry Potter and Twilight series (with nods to Lord of the Rings, Star Wars,
Alice in Wonderland, and other stars of the pop culture pantheon) features invisible rabbits, random lunatics, evil vegetarian gourmet chefs and much more.
Hilarity ensues as everyone's favorite wizards, vampires, and werewolves battle
to save the gloomy town of Spork -- and indeed the world -- from certain destruction
at the hands of the nefarious Fine Diner and the Vampire Euphoria.
Friday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Admission is $5 at the door
