Installation and initial operation ProfilGate® cleaning systems scratch of dust and dirt, sticking to tires and the soles of shoes. They are used either for the traffic that is approaching your facilities from outside, or between differnt areas, inside. The system reduces significantly the amount of dirt transport-ed into clean areas and therfore plays an important role for technical cleanliness, within your company.

The system is based upon special developed and patented brush strips that are pre-mounted into the steel grates. The inherent tension of the brush strips, in combination with the inclined brushes scratch off the dirt and clean the tires , mechanically. The dirt falls down into the stainless steel trays, in which it is captured. From there it can be easily removed and does not end up in in the areas, behind.

Typical configurations

In-ground installation – Connection outside-insideA typical ProfilGate® cleaning field consits of about 3-4 segments next to each other and has a length of 4-5 segments. It is installed into the ground, in order to assure a plain and smooth passage. The field should be passed straight, in the same direction, in which the brush strips are installed.

In ground installation – wet cleaning / disinfection ProfilGate® i45 aqua The tray(s) of the ProfilGate® i45 aqua can be filled with either water or detergents / disinfectant fluids. The capillary effect moistures the bristles and assures that the tires /soles are wet cleaned /disinfected. The cleaning fluid can be changed by either using the drain or a wet vacuum cleaner.

In ground installation – Combination of ProfilGate® with ProfilGate® dryzoneThe ProfilGate® cleaning models can also be used in combina-tion with ProfilGate® dryzone. The dryzone segments come with an ultra absorbant fleece that takes of remaining moisture fom the tries / soles.

Electrical grounding for ESD areas or areas with explosion hazard In cases where the cleaning field shall be installed into areas that need specific protection against electrostatic charges (“ESD” areas or areas with explosion hazard) the trays of the system should be connected to the electrical grounding. Upon request, we can attach dedicated bolts to the trays that will allow you to connect them to your grounding system. In such cases the trays should also be electrically connected with each other by welding or soldering them together.

Above ground installation – ProfilGate® b45 go with ramps In cases where the system can not be embedded into the ground, we can provide dedicated profiGate go ramps which are small and fit into narrow walkways.

Above ground installation – acess via rampsFor intermediate / test installations it is also possible to mount the cleaning system onto the ground. This is done by placing the segments on the ground and fixating them with ramps and/or brackets that are screwed to the floor. Even though this type of installation is minimizing the damage to the floor, we do not generally recommend it, as it has certain disadvantages/risks. Cleaning fields, installed above ground, need to be clearly marked and secured at their sides, in order to avoid any passage in unintended directions/angles.

29

Combination with induction loopsAs main parts of the ProfilGate® system are made from steel they can interfere with existing induction loops and disturb them. If ProfilGate® shall be installed into areas with induction loops, there are the following options:- Leave some space between the induction loop and the

cleaning system.- If possible you may change the frequency and/or sensitivy of

the induction loop.In cases where these options are not possible, we recommend a change towards other sensors like photo or radar sensors or a radio controlled system.

Preparations prior to installationBefore starting the installation you should take care about the fol-lowing steps, in order to avoid mistakes and to assure an optimum result.

1. Is this delivary dedicated for this place of installation? If you have mentioned the dedicated installation place with your order, the dedicated location is also mentioned in the shipping documents, attached to the shipment. In case of any uncertain-ties, check with the responsible person in your company.

2. Check the delivery for completelyness Assure, upfront, that you have the correct amount and size of segments, in order to assure a smooth installation and to avoid any delays.

3. Unpack and clean the supplied trays Assure that no packaging materials or other things are sticking to the trays in order to prevent an uneven installation.

4. Study all installation instructions, upfront Prior to installation all people involved should have read and understood all installation instructions, such as: this manual, but also adequate documets for others materials (e.g. glue) and tools used during installation.

General hints for installation1. Principle

ProfilGate® can either be installed in-ground or, for non-permanent installations, also above-ground using ramps. The drawings, below, are showing the differnt methods of installation, for various models.

2. Dimensions Before starting the installation you should calculate the neces-sary space and depth of the system. The example and the table on the following pages will allow you to calculated these dimen-sions, upfront. Please assure to add the potential necessary space for the glue, fillers and other materials needed, in respect to your specific setting.

3. Statics/Load-bearing In most cases ProfilGate® is installed/embedded into the concrete floor. This means that some parts of the concrete need to be removed, which may lower its original load bearing capacity. It is important to assure that even after installation, the floor has a load bearing capacity that is still above the minimum value, for the specific area. For further information or approval, please consult your responsible architekt or structural designer.

4. Glues, fillers and screed Check all construction materials used, such as glue, filler or screed for their suitability. Read and apply all handling instruc-tions, of such materials, as issued by their manufacturer.

Storing and shipping ProfilGate® - ProfilGate®, all models

When storing or shipping the ProfilGate® segments, it is important to place wooden shims between them, in order to prevent the brushes from being damaged.

ATTENTION: Adequate shims are already in place, when receiving the shipment. Please store these shims for later use/re-sending.1. Place the shims loosely between the brushes.

(Attention: Do not press the brushes!) (Fig. 32).

2. Place 3 shims evenly upon each grate (Abb. 33).

3. Put the next segment on top, assuring that the load is carried by the shims (Fig. 34).

4. Place the shims evenly and stack the segments one upon the other (Fig. 35).

5. Please place also shims when stacking the trays upon each other. (About 5 mm higher than the edge of the tray (Fig. 36).

6. Place the last/highest tray by swapping it, using higher shims (Fig. 37). (Height of shim= 2x height of trays edge + about 5mm).

7. Potential ramps can be placed on top of the trays, using some cardboard (or similar) in order to prevent scratching (Fig. 38).

8. The stack needs to be packed and wrapped carefully, before shipping it (Fig. 39).

Operation Practical function of ProfilGate®

ProfilGate® is used to clean tires/wheels and the soles of shoes. The system is dedicated to be used in driving and walkways, either inside, or even ouside in covered areas, that are used very often. The dirt is scratched off, by the brushes and falls down into the caturing trays. The trays need to be emptied, regularly.

Any other, than the above mentioned usage has to be explicitly accepted by the manufacturer, upfront.

Practical function of ProfilGate® dryzoneProfilGate® dryzone is used to clean and dry tires/wheels and the soles of shoes. The system is dedicated to be used in driving and walkways, of the facility, which are often used. It can be passed with high loads. The moistures is taken off and captured by the ultra ab-sorbant DryPad fleece. Any surplus moisture can drop down into the caturing trays. The trays need to be emptied and cleaned, regularly.

Any other, than the above mentioned usage has to be explicitly accepted by the manufacturer, upfront.

Cleaning resultsThe quality of the cleaning stands is a direct correlation between the length of the field and the circumference of the tires. For bigger circumferences there is also a longer cleaning field needed, in order to maintain the same good cleaning results. You may expect a good cleaning result, if the tire can wind up 3 times, while still being on the cleaning field.

Suitabilities and limitations

Even the best system has its boundaries and we do not want to promise anything our system can not fulfill. The following points shall give you some information about what you can and what can NOT be expected from ProfilGate®.

High load bearing capacity The maximum load bearing capacity depends on the model and has a value between 10 to – 40 to (see table on page 30)

Dust, dirt and rubber abrasion Such kinds of dirt can be securely taken of, by the ProfilGate® system. Even the biggest part of moisture will be taken off the tires, by the brushes, when passing the field. If you are in doubt about the suitability for your specific situation, please contact us.

Driving directions The cleaning field should be passed, in straight direction. Avoid to brake or accelerate sharply, while passing the field. Avoid shunting and U-turns, while passing the field.

Speed limit The speed limit, on the field, is 6 Km/h (4 Mph)

Heavy mud and extreme soiling ProfilGate® is not suitable for mud and extreme soiling. For this kind of purpose, there are other systems available on the market.

Bigger foreign objects The ProfilGate® system takes of effectively dust, dirt, moisture and even debris from the surface of tires. However it can not pull out foreign objects that are sticking in the tires.

Clean room areas ProfilGate® is perfect to minimize contam-ination prior to entering clean rooms, such as in semiconductor production facilities, production of sterile pharmaceuticals, food products, etc. However, the system is not dedicated to be used inside the clean rooms, themselves.

Recommended maintenance intervals

The values mentioned in the table, below are based upon our experi-ences. But there can be big differences, between specific cases. They depend mainly upon: the amount and kind of dirt, number and type of vehicles/tires, internal, or external usage, different weather condi-tions, etc. Therefore the time between maintenance intervals should be tested and fixed in accordance with the specific case.

Service and maintenance In order to assure the best possible cleaning results, it is necessary to control, to clean/empty and to maintain the system, regularly.

The following steps may only be conducted, when wearing all neces-say safety equipment.

General hazard of squezing/bruising due to heavy parts/grates.

Wear safety boots! The grates are heavy and can cause severe injuries.

Wear working gloves! Sharp or pointly obejects can lead to injuries.

Wear eye protection! Dust, small objects or contaminated liquids could otherwise get into your eyes.

Wear breath protection! The collected dirt might contain harmfull or poisened parts.

Inspection

The system should be inspected concerning dedicated function, regularly. During the inspection, check, if the trays have been cleaned and emptied, as scheduled and watch out for broken, or worn out parts. In the area of the cleaning field there should be no parts or obstacles that could limit its funczionality. Assure that the brush strips can move easily inside the grates and allow that the dirt can fall down, besides them, into the trays.

Cleaning

The time between the cleaning intervals is depending very much on the specific conditions. In times with more dirt (especially in autom or winter), or more traffic the cleaning intervals should be shorter. While in times with lower amounts of dirty the intervals between cleaning/emptying the trays can be prolonged.

In case of wet cleaning or disinfection with ProfilGate® i45 aqua the cleaning liquid (water, detergents, chenmical, etc.) needs also to be changed, regularly.

Maintenance

Generally the ProfilGate® system is considered to be very reliable and needs only a limited amount of maintenance.

But some parts, such as the brush strips, or the DryPads (depending on model) will wear out, after some time.

The brush strips start to be worn out, when the bristles become weak and do not point upwards, anymore.

When the DryPads are just becoming too wet, they can be dried and re-used. But if they become too dirty, they should also be replaced.

You can purchase the necessary spare sparts directly from the manufacturer, or via you local dealer/representative.

You can find instructions on how to change these parts, in the following chapters.

Collecting/analyzing dirt

In order to determine the optimum time between cleaning cycles, it is recommended to collect and to weigh the amount of collected dirt, in the first weeks/month, after installation. Upon request we provide our customers with adequate „dirt collection bags“ (Fig. 40). Depending on the quantity of collected dirt the time between the cleaning cycles can be determined, or adjusted. Upon request the collected dirt may also be qualitatively analyzed, within dedicated laboratories (Fig. 41). Please ask us for adequate contacts.

Taking out the grates with ProfilGate® Lifter (1 person) - ProfilGate® all models

The ProfilGate® Lifter is an optional equipment and not a general part of the shipment.

1. Drive the ProfilGate® Lifter onto the field and stop shortly before the grate. (Fig. 43).

2. Position the ProfilGate® Lifter in such a way, that the tires stay BEHIND the grate that you intend to lift.

3. Lower the front end of the ProfilGate® Lifter, so that the 2 hooks dig into the grate. Then move the Lifter slightly forward, in order to fix the hooks underneath the crossbar (Fig. 44).

4. Step with one feet onto the lever, at the back of the lifter and tread in order to lift the grate (Fig. 45).

5. Drive the grate outside the field and place it onto the ground.

6. After cleaning the trays, pick up the grates and drive them onto the field. Position the tires of the lifter behind the tray in which the grate should be placed. Lower the grate (Having one foot on the lever) and insert it into the clean tray. Then pull the ProfiGate® lifter a bit backwards, in order to release the hooks.

Board for cleaning plan

Cleaning the ProfilGate® system regularly is key for an optimum result. Define the suitable time between the cleaning intervals, depending on the individual amount of dirt and communicate them with the company or emplyoee that is in charge of cleaning/maintaining the field (Fig. 42).
