Tribute

Dear Sister In Heaven, I sit here and ponder how very much

I’d like to talk with you today There are so many things That we didn’t get to say.

I know how much you care for me And how much I care for you

And each time that I think of you I know you’ll miss me too!

An angel came and took you by the hand, and said Your place was ready in Heaven far above

And you had to leave behind all those you dearly loved You had so much to live for, you had so much to do It still seems impossible that God was taking you

And though your life on earth is past, in Heaven it starts anew You’ll live for all eternity, just as God has promised you.

And though you’ve walked through Heaven’s gate We are never far apart

For every time I think of you You’re right here, deep within my heart.

Love, “The Sunday Crew”

“I Am Not Gone” I am not gone

I remain here beside you Just in a different form

Look for me in your heart And there you will find me

in our love which forever lives on In those moments when you feel alone

Look for me in your thoughts And there you will find me

in sweet memories that burn strong Every time a tear

Forms in your beautiful eyes Look up to the heavens

And there you will see me Smiling down from God’s glorious skies

~ Your Loving Angel ~

Reflections of Life

November 4, 1972 – November 28, 2020

If I can help somebody as I pass along, if I can cheer somebody with a word or song, If I can steer somebody from doing wrong, Then my living shall not be in vain!

If I can do my duty as a Christian ought, If I can bring back beauty to a world that’s wrought, If I can spread love's message that the Master taught, Then my living shall not be in vain!

Then my living shall not be in vain, Then my living shall not be in vain! If I can help somebody as I pass along, Then my living shall not be in vain!

On November 4, 1972, near Langley Air Force Base, Yvette was born in Hampton, Virginia, to her loving and devoted parents Austin Devine and Delbrah Elaine Thompson Devine. Paternal and Maternal grandparents (Eddie and Irene Devine; Dan and Alma T. Lewis) preceded her in death.

Yvette received her early education at East Flora School in Flora, Mississippi, Bellaire Elementary, Elm Grove Middle and Parkway High School in Bossier City, Louisiana. In 1990, Yvette received her High School Diploma from Parkway High School in Bossier City, Louisiana. She was a member of the Band and Basketball Team. She earned her undergraduate degree in Economics from Tougaloo College and furthered her studies at Jackson State University receiving a Master’s Degree in Sports Science.

With a spirit of kindness and determination, Yvette touched the lives of many on her employment journey, at Friends of Children of Mississippi, SkyTel, Entergy, MS Department of Education and Comcast. However, the most memorable will be her weeks, months and years of service to her beloved students as “Ms. Devine”, Financial Aid Counselor at Jackson State University. Job Well Done “Ms. Devine”; you have far exceeded expectations. Yvette’s dedication and faithful service to her Lord began at Antioch Baptist Church in Bossier City Louisiana, Agape Faith Christian Fellowship in Bossier City Louisiana and finally, Fearns Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Flora, Mississippi, where she worked tirelessly on the Food and Hospitality Committee, Choir, Women of Faith, Pastor’s Aid, Graduate and Trustees Ministries. Again, Job Well Done!

After a brief yet full journey, God sent his angel who came quickly and quietly and said to her, Well Done! Yvette will be lovingly remembered by her mother and father: Delbrah T. Devine and Austin Devine of Bossier City and Haughton, LA; her sister: Veronica Gail Devine-Branch; two nephews: Austin Alexander Devine (Kaydee) Texarkana, TX and Caleb Branch, Bossier City, Louisiana; aunts and uncles: Earnest Devine of Jackson, MS, Eddie Devine, Jr. of Washington State, Minister Silas James Devine (Evelyn) of Jackson, MS, Cloella Thompson (Melvin) of Chicago, IL, Dr. Lou H. Sanders, Eula Gibson, Shirley Lee (Andrew), Louise Harper (Jessie), Lindell Devine and Katie Chandler (Robert), all of Jackson, MS; Levi Lewis (Jacqueline) of Jackson, MS, Calvin K. Lewis (Vatrice) of Wautauga, TX, Almarie Winters (Jim) of Flora, MS, Sylvester Lewis (Joanna) of Bolton, MS, Howard Lewis (Stephanie) and Sandra Lewis, both of Flora, MS; and Annie Carter of Chicago, IL; great aunt: Louise T. Eley-Sumler of Clinton, MS; special friends, Elton and Layla, Sandra Rosell, The Sunday Crew, Vera Williams, Bonnie Ann Body and Reshemia Ratcliff; JSU Family; adopted god-children; and a host of relatives and friends.
