My graphics career began at Clemson University where I received a Bachelors of Science degree in graphic communications. Over the course of my career, I've had the pleasure of working for companies as large as Macy, Inc. to small local printers. I enjoy helping my customers discover who they are or what they want to become through design and developing a brand that is right for them.
I possess unique analytical, organizational and customer service skills and have a reputation for creative thinking, flexibility, adaptability, hands-on problem solving and positive attitude.

This was a very fun project. My client was getting married in Jamaica and she wanted her wedding invitation to look like a passport.
She also liked the pattern paisley. It was very challenging trying to find the right pattern and fitting said pattern with the right color scheme throughout the wedding package.
Needless to say, everyone (including the bride) loved the results. My client was very good at letting me know exactly what she wanted and I enjoyed working with her to make her wedding day visually pleasing.

How your gifts are helping the cats of New York City and beyond
Neighborhood MewsSpring 2010
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) involves neutering feral cats, returning them to their territory, and providing for their long-term care. It is the most effective way to reduce the cats’ numbers and ensure their well-being.

Raising the Status of Feral CatsIn 2003, many of the leading animal welfare organizations
in the U.S. met and drafted what has come to be known as the Asilomar Accords. The goal was to create a uniform system of data collection for all animal shelters in the belief this would greatly aid in reducing companion animal overpopulation. Unfortunately, the final draft of the Accords excluded any mention of TNR and left feral cats classified as unhealthy, untreatable animals who basically should be euthanized.
Last summer, Maddie’s Fund and the working committee that continues to refine and maintain the Asilomar Accords, invited a number of feral cat experts, including Bryan Kortis of Neighborhood Cats, to speak to them about making changes. Bryan traveled to Las Vegas for the meeting and urged the committee to embrace TNR and recognize the return of ferals to managed colonies as both humane and good policy, and should be encouraged. Our hope remains that in the near future, favorable changes to the Accords will be made.
This remarkable journey has been made possible by all the
donors who’ve supported us, whether with a large or small
amount, whether giving only one time or every month.

On July 11, 2010, Neighborhood Cats will be ten years old. It all started a decade ago, when I was walking up the block from my apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. In an empty lot behind an iron fence, I spotted a kitten playing with a leaf in the grass. In the past, I had helped save a few cats from bad situations in delis by using my lawyer credentials to scare the store owners into handing them over to a rescue group, but that was the extent of my experience in animal welfare. Still, I was confident I could handle rescuing one kitten. Then I spotted two more kittens a few yards away and, a bit less sure of myself, I figured I could handle them, too. When two more of the little ones showed, I knew I was really in trouble.
All my life I’ve loved cats. I grew up the son of a successful doctor and had all the advantages of an upper middle class home, but it was a cold home with little affection or understanding, especially for a precocious, independent-minded boy. My parents were at war with each other, constantly fighting and shouting, even throwing objects at each other and coming to blows. Their rage was often directed towards me. I was in a perpetual state of being punished for one thing or another and sent to my room where I was deprived for days and even weeks on end of toys, other children’s company or any type of activity. I would have to sneak into my brothers’ room to borrow books and would make up my own games with baseball cards I hid under my mattress. I became so isolated, I was forced to eat all my meals alone.
In this dark world, there was one bright light – Spot, my tabby and white cat with the big grey marking on his forehead. Every day, as I sat on the bed in my
room, he’d come visit me. A big cat, he was always getting into fights with the other cats in the neighborhood and I could feel the scratch marks beneath his fur. But towards me, he was as gentle a soul as could be. I would pet him for hours and he would purr and purr, lying by my side. He was my best and only friend. One day without warning, my mother gathered my brothers and myself and took us away to a new town, leaving my father and Spot behind. I returned a year later to my father, but we moved soon too, and my father gave Spot away to a neighbor. The pain of losing him is something I still feel to this day.
So when I saw those kittens playing in the lot, I couldn’t just keep walking. Others in the neighborhood felt the same way and we found one another as we each investigated the situation. It turned out there were over 30 cats and kittens living in the inner courtyards of that block. The colony had started two years before when the owner of a real estate agency took pity on a couple of strays who showed up outside his window and started feeding them. None were neutered and the population soon grew out of control.
We were able to find homes for the kittens — about 20 of them in all — but learned it was near impossible

grilled Chicken ratatouille We gave this classic Provençal dish a taste of summer by grilling the vegetables traditionally used in ratatouille (bell pepper, eggplant, zucchini, tomato). Topped with grilled chicken, it makes an easy main course for summer entertaining. We like fresh marjoram and basil to complement the flavors, but any fresh herb will work.

3 Tbp. extra-virgin olive oil3 Tbp. chopped fresh basil1 Tbp. chopped fresh marjoram1 tsp. saltCanola or olive oil cooking spray1 red bell pepper, halved lengthwise, stemmed and seeded1 small eggplant, cut into 1/2-in.-thick1 medium zucchini, halved lengthwise4 plum tomatoes, halved lengthwise1 medium red onion, cut into 1/2-inch-thick rounds4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (trimmed and tenders removed) 1/4 tsp. freshly ground pepper1 Tbp. red-wine vinegar
1. Preheat grill to medium-high.2. Combine oil, basil, marjoram and salt in a
small bowl and reserve 1 tsp. of the mixture in another small bowl; set aside.
3. Coat both sides of bell pepper, eggplant, zucchini, tomato and onion pieces with cooking spray. Grill the vegetables, turning once, until soft, and charred in spots, about 5 mins per side for the pepper, 4 mins per side for the eggplant and zucchini and 3 mins per side for the tomatoes and onion. As the vegetables finish cooking, place them in a large bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap.
4. Rub the Tsp. of reserved herb mixture on
both sides of chicken and sprinkle with pepper. Grill the chicken until cooked through and no longer pink in the center, 4 to 5 mins per side.
5. Meanwhile, transfer the grilled vegetables to a cutting board and chop into 1-in. pieces. Return to the bowl and toss with vinegar and the remaining herb mixture. Serve the grilled chicken with the ratatouille.

TIP Note: Portioning chicken breast: It’s difficult to find an individual breast small enough for one portion. Removing the thin strip of meat from the underside of a 5-ounce breast—the “tender”—removes about 1 ounce of meat and yields a perfect 4-ounce portion. Wrap and freeze the tenders and when you have gathered enough, use them in a stir-fry or for oven-baked chicken fingers.

For Your Heart
A couple of months ago, veteran TV newsman Tim Russert died of sudden cardiac arrest. At work. At age 58. He was in a high risk group, exhibiting some of the factors associated with the disease—stress, family history, smoking, diabetes, obesity, and middle-aged (the average age for cardiac death is between 58 and 62). His death is a sad reminder that cardiac arrest can strike anyone at any time – even at work. This is not meant to scare you, but rather help educate you, and provide you with some resources to help you.
Did you know that Macy’s has an onsite defibrillator? It’s on the first floor of the 223 building. And check your floor’s kitchen area for a list of medically trained coworkers you can call in an emergency.
