In order to clarify and reaffirm where NHS Phoenix is going,
we undertook a strategic planning initiative early in 2010 that
set our direction for, at least, the next 3 years. Strategic plan-
ning is not new for us, but this year’s extensive process engaged
a broad range of community stakeholders and senior staff and
helped bring a laser focus to our mission.
Surely, we haven’t needed countless headlines and news reports
to remind us of the very real economic crisis that we’ve all been
experiencing. If we’ve not lost a job, we know friends and family
who have. If we’ve not lost our home, we need only look down
our street to see neighbors who have left because they could not
make their mortgage payments. Instability about the future
abounds and it’s times like these that call out for more definition
and greater certainty. In response, NHS Phoenix has reaf-
firmed our activities, clarified our goals and made explicit our
charge to make a difference in our communities.
That said, we thought we’d use our 2010 Annual Report to share
with you how WE DELIVERED ON OUR PROMISE. Our ap-
proach illustrates WHAT we do and HOW we do it, and also
highlights WHY we do what we do. We trust that you will agree
that not only does NHS Phoenix know where we are going, but
that we also are aware of how important YOU are – our Board,
staff, friends and partners – in helping us get there.
Let’s take a look at the model:

This MODEL represents our road map and essentially, our theory of change. It is a visual way to
present the relationships among our resources, our activities and the changes we hope to achieve.
