Japan, Scotland, and the United Kingdom. In 2017 they were awarded the Audience Award at the international music conference Ostrava Music Crossroads and showcased at the Ritmo Festival in Budapest. In 2018, they were nominated in the Jazz & Blues category for the Czech ‘Grammy’ award, ‘Ceny Andel’.

Efe Turumtay (violin) was born in Istanbul, Nikola Zarić (accordion) in Serbia and Kamil Slezák (drums) in Moravia. Tomáš Liška (upright bass) met all three in the course of his musical journeys around the world while tirelessly searching for fascinating interac-tions between instruments and cultures which would enthrall both him and his audiences.

SoundCzech (Czech Music office)The mission of SoundCzech is to facilitate the development of the Czech music industry in a wide range of genres such as world music, rock, pop, electronic music, hip-hop, jazz, alter-native music and other under genres and fusions. April 2017 marked a turning point in the history of the Czech music industry. Based on the demands from the representa-tives of the music sector and an initiative of the Arts and Thea-tre Institute, an export agency, SoundCzech, was founded with the aim of supporting the Czech music scene locally & globally with a variety of grants, workshops, mentoring sessions etc. SoundCzech is an initiation of a state-funded organization founded by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic “The Arts and Theatre Institute” (ATI).

Czech-Slovak focus Eurosonic noordeslag 2019Every year ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) highlights the very best emerging acts from a different country, show-casing the diversity of musical talent across Europe. In close cooperation with Pohoda Festival and SoundCzech / Czech Music Office, ESNS announced its first ever dual-country focus on the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 2019.

Director of SoundCzech, Márton Náray comments that the music scene in the Czech Republic has grown tremen-dously over the past five to ten years with over 500 sum-mer festivals, a booming club scene and dozens of great upcoming musical talents.

The showcase and conference Czech Music Crossroads con-tinues in its efforts to present quality contemporary music of Central Europe and features the best of world music, folk, jazz and new acoustic music not only from the Czech Republic but also from Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. The event is at-tended by a number of international personalities and experts representing the most prestigious festivals and major media and booking agencies. Naturally, Czech organizers, journalists and media representatives attend the Czech Music Cross-roads as well. The program includes showcase concerts, panel discussions led by the internationally recognized expert Petr Dorůžka, speed-datings and a variety of workshops.The festival is organised by the Colours of Ostrava Festival supported by the Ministry of Culture, and the City of Ostrava in cooperation with the Moravian-Silesian Region.

arts & theatre Institute(the Music Section) focuses on promoting and providing information about Czech music at the website www.czechmusic.org, and in publications (guides) and CD samplers of all kinds of Czech music. It coordinates and produces special projects (i.e. Years of Czech Music, showcases of young performers in classical music, pilot education projects) and presentations at trade platforms (MIDEM, WOMEX). It also participates in research projects (Creative Industries in CR; Changes in the Music Sector under the Influence of New Technologies, www.idu.cz/media/document/iu_changes_music_sector.pdf). BraAgas is a world music band from the Czech Republic focused on old tradi-tional music. They have in repertoire Sephardic, Balkan, or Scandinavian songs and recently, they have widened their range to old Czech-Moravian tradi-tions. BraAgas is especially unique for using beautiful female vocals and ancient traditional instruments. Since 2007, BraAgas has released 6 albums, two of them – Tapas (2009) and Yallah! (2014) – were awarded with Czech ‘Andel’ music award in the World Music category. Last release O ptácích a rybách (2018) reached 3rd place in WMCE Top 20 (6/2018). BraA-gas performed at Sur Jahan Festival 2017 in India, Rainforest World Music Festival in Borneo island and in most European countries. Kateřina Götlichová is the BraAgas band leader.

Colours of ostrava Colours of Ostrava is the biggest international music festival in the Czech Republic. The festival first took place in 2002 and now welcomes over 45,000 visitors each day. It has 9 unique outdoor and indoor music venues and 9 discussion stages that are part of the newly established international discus-sion forum called Meltingpot. One of few music festivals to take place in the city centre. Held at the European Heritage Protected Site of former mines, iron and steelworks. In total over 350 events ranging from bands, DJs, films, open discus-sions, workshops plus theatre, poetry, art installations.

18th edition takes place on July 17–20, 2019.

9th edition takes place on June 28—29, 2019.

Petr Dorůžka Earth Music Dušan Svíba Freelance journalist, music writer and radio presenter. He

runs his show Borderline Music on the Czech National Radio, contributes to Czech music magazines and has written books on alternative, contemporary, and world music. Petr has been lecturing World Music at the Faculty of Humanities at Charles University since 2002, directs the conference program at the Czech Music Crossroads in Ostrava, and became a member of the advisory panel of the newly formed Czech Music office. In 2017 he received the WOMEX Professional Excellence Award.

Dušan Svíba is the founder and booking agent for Earth Music, a Czech based booking agency established in 2002 and active within Central European. They focus on a range of genres from Americana, Jazz, Ska to World music. Their roster includes international artists Dubioza kolektiv, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, Orkesta Mendoza, Tamikrest, Nive & The Deer Children, NO Blues, Tim Eriksen etc. and Czech artists Dunaj, Zabelov Group, Nylon Jail, Terne Čhave and Ponk. Folk Holidays Indies Production “Folk Holidays“ Namest nad Oslavou is an extraordinary music festival. Over 8 days, visitors (400—500 per day) spend their music, art and dancing holidays as either active or passive participants. They are surrounded by the charm-ing environment of the Namest: a renaissance chateau, the chateau park, and adjacent environs of the Oslava river in and outside the town. Artists in the past have included: Waterson-Carthy, Cloud Cult, Glen Hansard, Hazmat Modine, Iva Bittova, Tim Eriksen, Sam Lee & Friends, Muzsikás, War-szaw Village Band, Mari Boine, Dobet Gnahore, Gangbe Brass Band and many more.

This agency was established in 2009 as a part of the Indies Scope label and provides complete services for released artists.
