Czech Republic-Regions
Czech Republic is in the central Europe. People say it is „the heart of Europe“. Germany, Austria, Slowakia and Poland are our neighbours. President of our country is Václav Klaus. In 2004, the Czech Republic was taken in the European Union. Capital of the Czech Republic is Prague. Prague has got an interesting history. Our state has got a lot of castles. Prague castle is the largest in the world. In our capital, there are a lot of tourists. Czech Republic has got fourteen regions. Here they are:
Introduction:
Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and a separate region. It´s the largest town and the smallest region in our homeland. Prague has got a very interesting history, for example: king Charles IV. let built famous Charles Bridge, Karlštejn castle or Charles University. In Prague, there is the residence of Václav Klaus at the Prague castle.
1. region: Prague
Regional town: Prague The Central-Bohemian region is the largest in the Czech
Republic. Its administrative center is Prague. Here you can find both very big factories and beautiful countryside with deep forests and numerous castles and palaces.
2. region: Central-Bohemian
Regional town: Pardubice Our town Choceň is situated in the Pardubice region. In
this region people make pardubický gingerbread. In Pardubice, there are well-known races on horses, so-called Great-Pardubická Steeplechase. Other nice towns are Litomyšl, Vysoké Mýto, Ústí nad Orlicí and Chrudim.
3. region: Pardubický
Regional town: Hradec Králové In this region, there is the highest mountain of our state
(Sněžka-1 602 m. n. m.). There are Prachovské and Adršpašsko-Teplické rockies. People often go to Zoo in the Dvůr Králové. Other big towns are Trutnov, Náchod and Jičín.
4. region: Královéhradecký
Regional town: Liberec It is the second smallest region in the CR. On the mountain
Ještěd, there is a tower-shaped hotel. There is the Czech Switzerland, the highest mountain-range Krkonoše and Jizerské mountains.
5. region: Liberecký
Regional town: Ústí nad Labem In this region, there is the fortess Terezín. Terezín served
as concentration camp in World War II. There is a huge cemetery. In this region, we can find mountain Říp with Roturd of st. George. Other big towns are Děčín, Chomutov and Litoměřice.
6. region: Ústecký
Regional town: Karlovy Vary It is the most western region in the Czech Republic. People
know Karlovy Vary as a spa town. In Karlovy Vary flows healthy mineral water. Other nice towns in the region are Aš, Cheb and Františkovy Lázně. Other nice places are Castle Loket or river Ohře.
7. region: Karlovarský
Regional town: Plzeň In this region, famous beer is made. The beer is called
Plzeň. It is the third biggest region in our country. Other important towns are Domažlice, Klatovy, Tachov and Rokycany. On the main square in Plzeň, there is a huge church of st. Bartoloměj.
8. region: Pilsener
Regional town: České Budějovice In this region, there are a lot of ponds. The largest pond is
Rožmberk (it is the biggest in the world). Other nice places are castle Hluboká, Červená Lhota and water reservoir Lipno. The highest mountain of the region is Plechý (it is the highest mountain og Šumava).
9. region: South-Bohemian
Regional town: Jihlava In this region people make salami Vysočina. In the
Vysočina, there is a nuclear power station Dukovany. The region is very mountaineous. Region has got a lot of castles, for example: Světlá nad Sázavou, Brtnice, Ledeč nad Sázavou etc.
10. region: Vysočina
Regional town: Brno Brno is the second biggest town in the CR. South-Moravian
region has got a lot of vineyards. In this region, there are interesting castle Špilberk and Lednice with nice gardens. In the South-Moravian region, there are famous races on motorbikes on Masaryk Circle in Brno.
11. region: South-Moravian
Regional town: Zlín Zlín has got an interesting history. In 1876, Tomas Baťa
was born there. He made shoes. His firm (BAŤA) is well known in the world. Other historic places are Castle Lešná and „Hánácké Atény“ (protected by UNESCO).
12. region: Zlínský
Regional town: Ostrava In this region black coal is extracted. They have got a lot
of air pollution. Ostrava is the largest Silesian town. The highest mountain-range is Praděd (1 490 m. n. m.). Other interesting towns are Karviná, Opava and Bruntál.
13. Moravian-Silesian
Regional town: Olomouc In this region, people make cheese, so-called „Olomoucké
syrečky“. In Olomouc is the second calendar-clock in the Czech Republic. The first is in Prague. Olomouc has got two big squares. Other towns are Přerov, Šumperk and Prostějov. In Olomouc, there is a Museum of Art, Museum of Cheese production and Museum of Paper.
